Celebrate the 30th Anniversary of Horizons!!!

This is how much the company loved Horizons. How sickening that they are trying to turn Horizons into a money maker after they demolished it. Hardly an anniversary.

I hate it that Horizons was destroyed, I hate that I never had a chance to enjoy this beloved attraction, and I hate it that Disney's using it to make a quick buck off of those who loved it.

However, all of those things aside, I totally dig this photo. Not because it depicts the destruction of Horizons, but because it's just a fascinating photo to look at.

My understanding was that Horizons has a capacity of 2000+ an hour, possibly closer to 3K. I'm sure someone on here will come in with the exact #. All of the early Epcot rides were remarkably efficient and it gave the impression that nothing was popular. Capacity has never been increased on any attraction that was replaced at Epcot.

I almost positive number is approximately 2700 per hour. So your estimate of nearer to 3000 is most likely correct.

Now that I see the t-shirt advert up close, I note the phrase "ahead of its time" and can only conclude that this means the return of Horizons is predicated on t-shirt sales. *runs off to update Disney rumor blog, undercutting @wdwmagic on the biggest news of the last 20 years*

Obviously there is no way I would set anything read on wikipedia in stone, however, the Horizons page there claims only 696 per hour. Can they be that far off from the 2,700 never mind 3k #?

Replying to yourself is incredibly awesome when I can click on that link and hear that music.
lol, nice. Looks like the Horizon's 1 site is using this math for their capacity #. 174 ride vehicles, each entirely full with 4 people than assuming an approximately 15 minute ride and no stoppages, full rider capacity, extrapolating for a full 60 minutes give you exactly 2784 that they claim. That is capacity, but that's some serious luck to get every seat filled in every vehicle. No odd numbered visitors and no parties less than 4. But like SSE, that's a serious people eating monster.

Operating manuals for Horizons definitely exist. Doing some quick math, the 696 # is cycles per hour, not guests per hour. This would put capacity at 2784 per hour.

Oh my, how I wish you were correct! There's still an few empty pads in Futureworld...I would love to see them bring this back!

Yeah, it rarely did...because it was able to process huge amounts of people.
Some equated the lack of a long line with 'people not liking' the attraction after a point.

These same people seem to forget how darn efficient classic Omnimovers like 'Horizons' can move massive crowds in a heartbeat with no problem.

It also rarely had a line because there were so many things to do and see in FutureWorld, so if one attraction had a line, you'd go elsewhere and come back to it. There were no fastpasses back then.

I can go and catch an old episode of Lucy if I want these days, therefore I can still enjoy the comic stylings of Lucille Ball anytime I want, therefore the anniversary makes sense.

I cannot go and ride Horizons, ever again.
What do you think of the millions upon millions of the Google Doodles celebrating the 200th anniversary of some dead guy's birth?

Yes
Sadly I don't remember Horizons at all and I went to Disney a bunch of times before it closed. Even after watching the video.

With those I'm a little torn honestly, I respect and enjoy the execution of them. I wouldn't throw a birthday party for someone who's passed on personally. With the Google doodle's, at least they don't say that the person IS 200 years old, they say they would have been 200. And I believe that the intent of the doodles are educational. I don't feel that what Disney is doing is for educational purposes here. Google wants you to find out about someone you might not know about that has done something significant. I don't get the same vibe here.
Now, it's been said above that there are folks in Disney that are massive Horizons supporters, and they just wanted to be able to put out a Horizons T-shirt to show their love, and if that is the case, I'm ok with it. I just don't like the execution here. I've said I would have been ok here without the 30th anniversary tagline, and I still feel that way.

This to me seems a bit strange...Why Celebrate an attraction when they tore it down? They never even did one for the Imagination Pavilion and that one is still up.

When you go to the link that is offering the shirts, the graphic being used on the page is BETTER then the one on the actual shirts.

Too bad they did not offer THIS version, too.....i might have actually been tempted to purchase one.

Yeah, the '30th' thing is a little jarring....but i find it nice Horizons is being acknowledged.

You can also go to Mouse Street USA And get these shirts..

Sadly, I wish it were that way still instead of the new my magic project.
On another note, whatever happened to the Mobile Muppet Lab that used to be seen on occasion at Epcot?
