for anyone who didn't see a picture of it before......Christmas at EPCOT

The ending for when the Carousel of Progress was at Disneyland (nearly identical to the original world's fair ending)

Adam that's great and all, but when is the new ending coming :D

They haven't decided yet. They are still waiting to see how much they can get done on the first three scenes' touch ups. The attraction is going to slowly be fixed up before it is altered in any way (definite decisions haven't been made on any scene changes yet)

Thanks for the info! hopefully it will be something completely different....reason being what we have now is really just the same ending from 1975 slightly redressed (1981 and 1994 as well). While I personally feel it would be better to have the ride end in the 1960s and show how far we came from the dawn of the 20th century to the beginning of the space age, if they decided not do that, then they have to decide should the ending be an accurate depiction of 2000 or the 1990s or having it in the future, and hopefully with a new ending a new cast can be hired and a return of the band and orchestral version of "beautiful tomorrow" as well.

The current music is so campy IMO :hurl:

So I take it that all the touch ups are being done after park closing. Will any new scene addition be able to be added in the same fashion, or will it require a month or two down time?

I would think that a 3-6+ month rehab would be necessary for a new scene.

Nah, it shouldn't take THAT long. Especially if they have the scene technologically ready and pre-built. It would just be a matter of moving it in and hooking it up.

Most if not all of the people complaining about the little race car go carts are people whose kids no longer are really young and want to drive the car. Indy is as popular as ever with the little ankle biters for whom it is intended. . . so a word to the haters - not every ride is for you.

But why is Indy in Tomorrowland? Gas-powered vehicles are not futuristic. Well, neither is Monster Inc. (parallel universe) or for that matter even Stitch (Stitch was from a different planet but the movie takes place in current time) and Buzz Lightyear (Toy Story is a movie about toys, not the future).

The way I see it, Tomorrowland is becoming a dumping ground for Disney movies that lack a princess. :brick:

*because those behind the wheel are the drivers of tomorrow?*

Dumping ground or not, those attractions (Buzz, Monsters Inc. - not the speedway  ) are some of my favorites in the MK. . . so if WDI wants to keep building new attractions and dumping them in Tomorrowland, that's okay with me. :D

As someone said, the general park visitor will probably think nothing of the ride but a Disney enthusiast will. That is kinda sad because they don't give this great attraction a chance. Plus the age of a general visitor will either pull in or turn them away from the ride. I am 15 now and I love this ride to death! I don't know what other teenagers think of this ride but chances are if they are not a Disney fanatic they may not feel the need to go on the ride. So sad...I love you CoP!

From my research for a history day project for school (for which I would have gone to regional completion but couldn't because of a Disney cruise, oh the irony!) I found that Walt personally believed that youngsters would soon be driving vehicles themselves on these new fangled highways of the 1950's. So he thought in order to offer a preview of the highways he built the Autotopia in Tommorowland. Yes kids driving cars.

Becoming?!? When has Tomorrowland ever been filled with attractions dealing specifically with the future? It's becoming fashionable to decry how Tomorrowland has "lost its way" with the addition of the Pixar attractions but c'mon, let's look at the history of the land without the rose-colored glasses...

Carousel of Progress is about the past, not the future. If You Had Wings/Take Flight/Dreamflight were never about the future either. CircleVision 360? Nope, no future there. PeopleMover? If it ever was futuristic, that time has long past. About the only attraction really themed toward a view of "tomorrow" was Mission To Mars, and that attraction was lame right from the very beginning.

But why all of the Tomorrowland hate? What about Liberty Square? What does the Haunted Mansion have to do with liberty? Nothing! It belongs in Fantasyland. How about the Riverboat? The time frame for a boat like that would really fit in better with Main Street, so let's rip them out and move them to where they'd fit in better. How about Adventureland? I really can't find anything adventurous about the Tiki Room, but it has animals, so let's tear that one out too, and move it to the Animal Kingdom where it belongs...

In all seriousness, sure, some of the attractions might stretch the exact-to-the-letter theming of a particular land, but I'd hate to see those themes used as a straightjacket instead of a stepping stone.

True... keep in mind that in some of the original incarnations of the "super highway" concepts, there were ideas of computer-controlled driving that basically let you dial in your destination and let the computer take care of the rest while you sat back and read a newspaper.

I don't hate Tomorrowland. I don't want anything ripped out either. I simply stated how the land seems to be used for a last resort to put an attraction in from a movie that doesn't fit anywhere else.

The "new" theme of Tomorrowland when it had it's last rehab in the 1990's was "The Future that never was." Think Jetsons. That theme has been lost in the past 10 years and it's going in a direction that it doesn't seem it was meant for. I'm just saying it's not the Tomorrowland that the rehab was planned to be anymore.

Liberty Square is the name of the land where the mansion resides, again just a name of a land, not meaning everything has to do with liberty. River Boats where still around and the boat helps tie in Tom Sawyer Island to the rest of the park.

why can't they just overhaul DL and WDW's tomorrowland(s) and give it a retro future all googied out "the future as seen throughout the ages" or an atomic or space aged themed future

space mountain, peoplemover, rocket jets that could be rethemed, an autopia, carousel of progress :lookaroun, a brand new adventure thru inner space using 21st century technology, a 3D circlevision movie (if only), buzz could still be there, as well maybe a retro or vintage arcade area, an actual pizza planet that looks like the one from toy story, and the launching pad and space bar with those groovy space mist beverages

I really like the concept that's used in Paris, where it's kind of a Jules Verne view of the future.
as do i. agree on that one with you jackie.

i have said it before and ill say it again, put CoP in Innovations East or West. I dont car which. it would far be a better show then the exhibits that are in there now.... but, "it'll never happen"

it'll never happen, especially when not that many people go into innoventions, let alone CoP would compete with numerous exhibits and still be in the corner of extension of Innoventions

i know. and hopefully you got the pun. i guess it should be, "it'll never work" though

to play devils advocate, competition in innovations might be a good thing. any extra foot traffic sure would help the cause.
