I think the proper measuring stick for Kennedy is how she performed in her role in comparison to how the best available producer would have performed in the same role. Lucasfilm is a huge corporation with control of mega-popular intellectual property - almost any producer in the country would cut off their left arm to run Lucasfilm, so the group of "available" producers is basically everyone (except Feige). So really, the proper measuring stick for Kennedy is how she performed in her role in comparison to how the best producers would have performed in the same role.

That was my original point… there aren’t really this list of more financially successful producers to pick from. Kathleen is still third or nearly tied for second.

Other studios exist and… well they generally have Inferior producers

You’d assume studios wouldn’t barrel ahead when they have one on their hands

…but no…must release on schedule

I wouldn’t be surprised if this is a train wreck but…

The characters are fun, but you’d only truly know that if you watched their shows on D+.

I saw quite a few social media posts after the Super Bowl commercial and all seemed intrigued, that makes me a little optimistic prior viewing may not be necessary.

I could see this being a massive flop, a break even, or a guardians style hit that came out of nowhere. I see it as a huge risk though, hopefully it pays off for Disney, I’d rather see more new content than remakes.

You should know by now, to Disney all movies they release are successful, no matter what the numbers say.

Besides that, no one ever really knows how much money Disney actually spends to make and market any of their movies which is why the costs do not matter in their movie business.

In their theme park business however……

I'm right there with you. If this just completely tanks and is a massive flob. I won't be surprised at all. If it does well, same thing. It's why I've been saying I can't really pin this one down. Red guardian is my standout post endgame new character, with Yelena being my 2nd favorite. Is there that trust factor with marvel like when guardians of the galaxy came out? That's to be determined. I'm rooting for this as I'm a fan of a good rag tag everyone's against us team up film.

The reality is Disney has lost alot of its studio street cred

Which is a terrible miscalculation

If movies are good…they’ll succeed. If they’re not…the franchise label won’t matter

I was speaking from the standpoint of the Disney company; they consider everything a success on one level of another, having nothing to do with the numbers.

For example, the EPCOT refurb was, to Disney, a success.
I am sure Disney considers all their movies a success, numbers aside of course.

Just a year ago, Disney CEO Bob Iger was in the midst of an ongoing apology tour for the studio after string of tepid box office returns. At a conference last November, he acknowledged that things had a taken a downturn and promised, as he had been doing regularly, that Disney will be stressing quality over quantity after The Marvels, the latest Indiana Jones and a handful of other films disappointed. ​

Disney Touts Two-Year Turnaround Behind Studio’s Stellar Quarter.

The company’s fiscal fourth quarter that ended in September was one of the best ever in the studio’s history. Pixar’s Inside Out 2 and Marvel’s Deadpool & Wolverine became the top films of the year so far, setting box office records. Disney became the first studio to cross $4 billion globally in 2024.

In executive commentary around the numbers this morning, Iger and CFO Hugh Johnson cited renewed creative strength, “a result of the extensive work we began two years ago to restore creativity to the center of the company.”

“We are encouraged by this momentum in our studio business going into the holiday season,” they said, with upcoming Moana 2 later this month and Mufasa: The Lion King in December.

The studio, housed in Content Sales/Licensing — one of three divisions in Disney’s Entertainment Segment with streaming and linear TV — saw revenue jump by 39% to nearly $2.6 billion last quarter. It swung to a $316 million profit from a $149 million loss.

When they are real disappointments, ie they lost lots of money, Disney tends to acknowledge them. When they make expectations or even if it slightly falls short they tend to stay quiet. And when its exceed all expectations they celebrate it.

Its the nature of business.

Then the incessant excuse making/goalpost moving about D+ started.

And at the end of the day…those bad movies have been forgetten and make about ZERO in additional revenue

There’s plenty of things they don’t consider a success. Even from the example you gave, Disney clearly was extremely disappointed in Harmonious. A hugely expensive infrastructure that they ditched in record time and rushed a complete replacement of.

I think the missed expectations are you own, everything isn’t black and white. Things people want called as missed aren’t fully so. But when something is really bad, there usually isn’t argument about it.

See something like Strange World. There’s no ambiguity from nearly any source, trade nor Disney, it was a successful product.
