Doesn't anyone else think its suspicious that Spirit made a post yesterday that James Cameron has given the greenlight for Avatarland and the next day we are bombarded with Avatarland news???

500 Million dollars isn't exactly cheap but. Cars Land and Potter are both great, but why would Avatar be any less of a land? I mean think about it..

Of course Beastly Kingdom would still be better, but I'm happy with Avatar. I can tell your a true disney fan so I would imagine you'd be excited to know AK is going to be greatly expanded.
It's a lot of money but not nearly enough for a project of this calibre the way WDI works. Sadly. I wouldn't call it greatly expanded. More like another hour on the day. And it's nearer to 400 million.

Of course it's good for the park, but in reality it should be the opening salvo of a far bigger project.

Oh sorry, I thought it was 500 :p And it's hard to tell at this point though, these two rides will not be the entire land. Who knows, me might even get another E-Ticket! But is there even any confirmation these are real? If it reaches my expectations (which are high) it will be a 3+ hour area. Hopefully WDI will even add a nighttime show!

And on the money topic. Disney have it. I know nothing about business and I'm sure if I took Bob Iger's spot I would probably bankrupt Disney. But if I was in charge, I would put aside 3 Billion of the 32 billion each year just for expanding, refurbing and building new attractions/amenities in the theme parks! With the space WDW has, I'm surprised were not getting a couple new lands each year.

And while I'm at it, I would build Progress City ;)

Sounds like great news to me. TWDC needs to start investing in WDW once more and with a combined FLE at MK, Avatarland at DAK, and Carsland at DHS, even TDWC's strongest critics will have to acknowledge that, after a 10+ year slumber, WDW is moving forward once again.

If anyone is doing the math... This and FLE = over $1 billion. They are pouring $1.3 billion into the DCA redo, for comparison's sake. If they green light the DHS project, total investment in WDW attractions will exceed what DLR is getting.

If this holds true, I'm certainly not complaining!

Can't wait for a new CEO - can't wait for clearing of house(s) within TWDC. Can't wait!

Is there any chance that WDI has finally figured out how to get value from a dollar vs. spending $20 million on making the drapes in a single scene of Shahtoosh by the weavers of Kashmir?

It seems like this IS the opening salvo of a far bigger project, which also includes the company expanding DHS with Carsland and a Monsters Inc coaster, etc. I'd rather they spend less money on Avatar if it means that they can also expand DHS for the better as well. Nobody really cares about Avatar, so why spend gobs of money on it? I still can't believe their spending ANY money on it!

I dunno, I still find the irony of it all to be highly entertaining. Both Disney and Cameron are all about drumming up excitement for Avatar, leaking blue prints, talk about all the different sequels and the general concensus is that no one cares. Heck, even the sequels, everyone's just glossing over it and looking forward to his next non-Avatar project. Even a message board thread dedicated to it has become about plans for the Harry Potter expansion.

yeah nobody cares about it that whole all time grossing movie thing...obviously it was a total failure..come on guys because you dont like it doesnt mean no one likes it...im not crazy about NFE but i would never say nobody likes it..how about we see some concept art and then judge.. understand they should be dumping money into this project that they probably wont but still...i guarantee you it will look incredible even though it doesnt get the motorbike coster

I enjoyed Avatar in the theater. But as an IP I couldn't care less. I don't know a single person who can name a single character. Bodes well for merch sales.

for everyone for the bike coaster... has there even been one built yet that isn't just some low intensity family coaster? the ones I am aware of aren't much more thrilling than barnstomer was.. and we know that's the point keeping many from embracing the mine coaster.
The video posted above is the small Intamin model, not the ride system Disney is using for the Tron coaster, which would be similar to the Avatar one.
The video below is the Vekoma version. Disney's will of course be longer, indoors and much better themed, but you can get an idea.
So...this...longer, indoors with Tron lighting and effects (or maybe someday Pandora theming)...

Does anyone think WDI axed the bike coaster because they have plans for it in DHS? They will need to do something with Rockin Rollercoaster when Aerosmith's contract is up soon. Possibly a overhaul of the building to look like Flynn's arcade? Then remake the tron interior from SDL? Sounds like an easier task then making a ground up project, the track is already in place.

Well, my theory along those lines that if they have plans to use the bike coaster at WDW (big if), I think it's most likely going to Tomorrowland at MK and be an exact clone of the Tron theme. There was plans in the past to put a Tron attraction there and if it happened it could replace Laugh Floor or the Speedway.

Would you rather they blow the whole wad on Animal Kingdom, or save some for DHS too? I, for one, would like to see something added to both parks, rather than one of them get a lot. Both parks are desperate for something new. They can add phases, but I just want for them to at least put a phase 1 in both parks, personally.

I think the 3-tier loading is to accommdoate this.

Similar to soarin but a much simpler ride mechanism.

That's pretty awesome looking. It's apparently in use at a couple of parks in Asia but I can't find any ride video or in-action footage :( There's also this system which is similar to the Vekoma and I think Intamin has there own Soarin' "clone" as well.

The problem with these kinds of simulators is that they are becoming much cheaper to build so you are starting to see them at what I would call "regional" theme parks. It's like IMAX. Once upon a time you had to go to a big theme park or large museum to see an IMAX movie but now they're everywhere (let's not get into a fake-MAX/True-MAX argument please.) So is this really the kind of thing that is going to be cutting-edge enough to be the standard bearer for an entire land of a Disney park? Even with the immersive themed setting that ride will exist in it still seems a bit understated. I don't doubt that WDI can pull off something cool but it's not a one-of-a-kind-you-can't-see-it-anywhere-else type of attraction like RSR or ToT.

Also, it sounds like this supposed c-ticket "boat ride" is going to be a Pandora style Jungle Cruise. Partially indoors with a dose of animatronic critters from the movie.
