sorry if this is posted and long in the depths of this forum but i was wondering if the Burning Cabin by TSI is still burning? i dont rememeber seeing it burning when i rode the Liberty Belle in May.If it isn`t burning why did they stop it. idk if i`ve ever even seen it burning but i`ve always been curious.

No longer running...it was disabled several years ago. Presumably it costs a lot of money to run an effect like that constantly.

Pretty much. From yesterland.com:

The Liberty Belle riverboat went down for “rehab” in September 2005 for nearly a year. Because guests would not see the Burning Settler’s Cabin, Magic Kingdom management turned off the flames. The riverboat came back, but the flames didn’t. The pipes that supplied the propane (which were the original pipes from 1971) had deteriorated due to age and a year of not being used.

It's possible that if they ever have to drain the Rivers of America, they'll fix the corroded pipe, but it's doubtful. I think it's just an expense they don't want to have to deal with anymore.

Whenever I go on the WDWRR and see the Burning Cabin no longer burning, I always get teary-eyed. I miss that effect so much! It made taking the RR even more fun than it is now. :)

Does anyone know why the similar explosion effect in the GMR in DHS was canceled? There was an explosion in both scenes with live action, western and gangster set.

I don't remember an explosion in the gangster scene......only been lucky enough to get the western scene once or twice. It is a much better scene IMHO

Luck has nothing to do with it. If its busy enough that they are running both vehicles, get in the front one.

If I remember correctly, the reason for it burning in the first place was due to an Indian attack. This area originally was to resemble the old frontier and hardships endured. There were war parties on the bank, etc.. So I'm sure it was better to turn off the expensive gas, than to be politically uncorrect.

The Yesterland article MarkTwain linked to discusses this in some detail. Apparently, Disneyland's Burning Cabin had its story changed several times to be more PC, before the flames were turned off completely.

There's no mention of the same discussions taking place at WDW, but I'm sure it had to come up a few times.

Yep, you have to request the front, "A" vehicle to guarantee seeing the western scene.

Personally, I enjoy the western scene more, as I enjoy the humorous diologue of the cowboy bandit such as:

"What in tarnation!"

"I'm a stranger to these here parts"

"Dadburn it! I said snake, not snakes!"

Also, sometimes the bandit will tip his hat to the female AA in the Alien scene in a humorous way.

That's the story that I heard as well. They changed it from Indians...ahem, oops, I'm sorry...NATIVE AMERICANS *rolls eyes* to River Pirates to be politically correct. I'm not sure why they then turned it off altogether, although saving money on fuel is probably why.

That whole PC crap just ticks me off. We never can enjoy anything without having to change it to appease some group of whiney crybabies. I head that that's why they changed Dixie Landings to POR, too. :brick:

You know, that's very un-PC of you to think that way. But you are so correct.

I know it still happens in the western scene as of 2 weeks ago, but I don't know if it was done right, I don't think the guy threw the dynamite into the building. Meh, at least there was fire, didn't make much sense, but it's still there!

It'd be nice if WDW refurbed the pipes and got the effect working again someday, but with rising fuel costs, and environmental and "PC" issues it's unlikely to happen even if we had the most generous and spend-happy of park management.

That said, Disneyland's Rivers of America just had a major refurbishment, and they fixed up their formerly-burning cabin to be a nice western wooden log cabin. They then put a keelboat outside the cabin on the shore, and added soundtrack dialogue to the rivercraft to make it sound like Mike Fink had just arrived to the cabin in his famous keelboat and gotten in an argument with Davy Crockett. Something like this would be an inexpensive way to bring the cabin a new sense of life and not letting it look like, well, an abandoned shack.

The World We Live In...

Ya know, its not Disneys fault. We now live in a world where everyone sues everyone. The Dixie Landings...Ole South thing... both things that were altered because of the possibility of being offensive. The fun has been taken out because of our lack of dealing with the past.
