BREAKING NEWS: a suspicious package is on a disney bus

2 hours may seem like a long time, but, in this case, since Disney is being pro-active and taking care of the guests, I wouldn't complain.

A number of years ago at one of the first Star Wars Weekends, we were in the merchandise line (that year it was at the Indiana Jones store) in the blazing heat and sun. The line never moved. Thankfully, some managers came by and handed everyone a bottle of water for being patient. That stopped alot of the complaining.

I hope the guests will realize what is being done.

I apologize in advance if this message comes out looking weird on computers, I'm using my BlackBerry to write this.

Not sure about property wide, but at least some of the bus service has resumed, as I have just gotten on one to go from our resort, FQ, to Epcot, to (hopefully) hop on the monorail to go to the Poly for dinner.

Some of our family was at AK when it happened, they called us and said they were gonna be stuck there for awhile. That's when I checked the news and heard what happened. We'll see if they make it to dinner....

Must be putting them back out after they are checked.

Thanks for the update.

News 13 update 2

News 13 has received word of a suspicious package on a Disney bus.

According to the Orange County Sheriff's Office, the device was found on a bus near Disney's Animal Kingdom around 3 p.m. Thursday.

The bus was in for routine maintenance at the maintenance facility.

That's when Disney workers found something suspicious attached to the undercarriage of a bus.

The bomb squad is on the scene right now to check out the device.

The maintenance facility has been evacuated as a precaution.

News 13 has learned all Disney bus operations has been temporarily suspended.

Disney is doing this to make time to check all their buses and their fleet.

They plan on putting each bus back into service after it passes inspection.

News 13 has also learned Disney's Animal Kingdom will stay open until 7 p.m. It was scheduled to close at 5 p.m.

Taxi services have also been expanded to help with the bus shortage due to the inspection.

Disney released the following statement:

"Safety of guest and cast members is top priority and Disney apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause their guest and they will address there concerns on a case by case basis."

Wesh update #3

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- The Orange County Sheriff's Office bomb squad is investigating a device found under a bus at Disney World.
The resort has suspended bus service, a Disney spokeswoman said at 5:30 p.m.

A worker doing maintenance on the bus noticed the device and alerted authorities, the Sheriff's Office said Thursday shortly after 5 p.m.
The bomb squad and a hazardous material team are on the scene, which is reported near Disney's Animal Kingdom but far from places where guests visit. Disney said it has stopped all bus service for at least two hours as other buses are checked.

Hours at the Animal Kingdom were extended to 7 p.m., since guests who rely on buses can't get transportation.
The view from Chopper 2 shows emergency vehicles around a large building. A member of the bomb squad went into the building.
Dozens of buses can be seen lined up near another Disney work facility.

The incident is the latest in a series of incidents at Disney World. In July, a monorail pilot died when another monorail crashed into his near the Magic Kingdom. A stuntman died during a rehearsal of the Indiana Jones show in August at Disney's Hollywood Studios.

Orlando Sentinal Update

The Orange County sheriff's bomb squad is at Walt Disney World now investigating a suspicious device found underneath a Disney bus, authorities confirmed.

Bus operations have been suspended, but taxi service has been expanded, a Disney spokeswoman said.

A maintenance worker found the device during a routine inspection about 3 p.m. His supervisors agreed that it should not have been there and called the Sheriff's Office. A robot and X-ray machines will examine the device, officials said.

We'll use whatever necessary tools to determine what that object is," sheriff's spokesman Jim Solomons said.

If the device can't be deemed safe on scene, it will be removed and detonated in a safe location. The maintenance building has been evacuated as a precaution.

All Disney buses are being inspected as a precaution, company spokeswoman Andrea Finger said. Taxis will take up the slack in the meantime.

"We anticipate that all buses will be back in service within two hours," spokeswoman Andrea Finger said.

Hours at Disney's Animal Kingdom have been extended to 7 p.m., and water parks were open till 6 p.m. -- longer than usual, Finger said.
