Big changes for the McDonald's near All Stars

Call me crazy, but I still don't see why anyone would go to Disneyworld and eat at a McDonald's, given the plethora of options available.

Reminds me of the people who visit NYC and eat at Applebee's in Times Square.

People EVERYWHERE do this. My sister went on a high school trip to Hawaii, and they only ate at McDonald's, Taco Bell, and KFC the whole week. I've had friends go overseas and search out the American fast food places over there (I can't even imagine traveling all the way to France or Japan and then eating at McDonalds!). I think it's just a way for people to feel comfortable when they're somewhere that isn't "normal" to them. It is a shame, though, when people won't try new things.... (Although it's a great place to stop for a late-night meal on the way back to the All Stars, or on the way home from work!)

This McDonalds is the best one I have ever been too, and I have been to hundreds of them in my 24 years!! lol

Everyone wears a tie. Perfect service and spotlessly clean!

It seems like the money to do this renovation could be better used elsewhere on property. Is it the McDonald's company that is in charge of this or Disney?

I like the way the old one looks. It's unique! It would fit in with Pop Century's motif  Oh well, just my 2 cents

The old look kinda grew on me the last 9 years since the first time I ate there. It's sad that the characters I remember as a kid (especially Hamburgler) won't be around any more, but I welcome the changes.

I said the same thing about my son when he went to australia last year and ate at a mic d's, but it was a quick meal while on a tour. But he did say that the burger did taste better than any he's had here in the states

So they're basically turning it into an ordinary McDonald's

(i do like the new design though, they just re-did a few of them near me like this)

When I think of an ordinary McDonald's, I think of this:

This new concept is far from ORDINARY in my book.

It's the NEW ordinary. I've seen several McDonald's renovated to look like the concept. (not that being ordinary is a bad thing, i really like the new design)

Thanks for the info RAXIP.

Can you blame McD's for wanting to brandish their NEW (albeit ordinary) corporate look at one of the most visible storefronts in the world?

Reminds me of the people who visit NYC and eat at Applebee's in Times Square.

A few years back, in the PLAYBILL magazine, they have a section where Broadway stars suggest a NYC restaurant. And one of them suggested the Applebees. According to the write-up, because of its attachment to the Winter Garden Theatre, the cast of Mamma Mia has to walk through the restaurant to get to and from work. I asked my friend who does costuming for Mamma Mia and she had no idea what they were talking about. But it made us all laugh that thats what some Broadway star thought of good New York City cuisine.

That was Cheyenne Jackson, who was in All Shook Up at the time. When he was asked about why he chose the Applebees, he said it was all news to him and that he had, in fact, never eaten there. The Broadway actor that chooses the restaurant actually has very little choice. It's all advertising.

The mansard roof is going the way of the dodo.

(Not that the All Star location had a mansard roof... just referring to the new look McD's across the US)

By the way, it seems like the only two characters missing atop that All Star McDonald's building are a large abstract dolphin-fish and a larger abstract swan. Maybe they can relocate the Shake, Burger, and Fries atop the Swan and Dolphin Resorts—everything's already properly scaled!

Maybe people eat there because they like the McDonald's burgers better than the burgers, or the pizza, or the chicken or whatever else tastes exactly the same in each park. It's really no big deal. We stop there from time to time late at night on our way back to the All Stars. We never eat at a sit down meal in any of the parks and their "fast food' stuff isn't all that great...some is really good, but not most.

Duh ...that's because it was kangaroo... :animwink::animwink:

Anyway...funny story about the McDonald's there...we were riding a packed ME bus into All Stars a few years back. My son was 9 and excited as heck. We rounded the corner there and that big McDonald's came into view and my son yelled out, "Oh...Dad!! Can we stay at the McDonald's hotel instead?" Pretty much had the entire bus laughing pretty good.:ROFLOL:

The actors in those ads actually only sign an authorization with the ad agency to use their name. They aren't told which restaurant they will be "promoting."

As for The Winter Garden Theatre...the stage door is on 7th Avenue. The cast and other theater employees do not go through Applebees to get into the building (not unless they have the ability to walk through walls, at any rate).

I just don't understand why people continue to eat that "food". Why on earth would you harm your body like that, let alone your kids. If you want a quick snack eat an apple or banana.

Eating out in general is not healthy, but most people get some enjoyment out of going out to eat, despite the fact that the food is high in fat and calories. Not everyone chooses to eat apples and bananas for their entire lives (and certainly not when on vacation). I realize eating at On the Border once a month is probably shortening my life by a few minutes, but I also go to the gym 5 times a week and there is something to be said for quality of life. If I could live to be 105 on apples and bananas or live to be 95 eating out once a week and going to the gym 5x/week, I'd choose the later.

It is sickening that baby back ribs with a side salad and a baked potato from Outback clocks in at 3500 calories, but it also tastes better than an apple or a banana...

It just make me so angry to see fat kids in strollers at the parks. I have a 4 and 1 1/2 year old,my 4 year old walks in the park, when we were there in Feb. he said why don't the other kids just walk it's fun. I pack healthy snacks when we travel to the parks, when we eat at the parks we make sure they don't eat crap, while most of the food at WDW is bad it's getting better. Healthy eating habits need to last their whole lives. Remember when we were in school and there was ONE fat kid, now there is one healthy kid. Sad, just sad.

Good to know. for those who remember that that was a couple of years ago but it struck me as funny so much that I still remember it.
