People pay close to that for a few hour showing of cirque du soleil with no "rides" and way more than that for some sporting events with no "rides"

A theme park is neither a circus show nor a sporting event. A theme park without - or just very light on - rides would be like a sporting event where they never actually play a game (or compete), they just get dressed up and stand around on the field. You still get the cheerleaders, food & drink, foam fingers and the like - just no game. How well do you think that would go over?

So do local malls. Many people like a theme park experience not just rides

How many people like a theme park experience without rides (or very few rides)? Probably about the same number who like going to sporting events where there is no game or competition.

I hope this is because they are just still trying to figure out what to do in a massive way at DHS to revive that park. I don't believe cancelled but i do find it almost humorous (in a sad way) about how any insiders told us Carsland was a for sure thing then it wasn't and now this.

Who knows what is going on but I sure hope they get their act together and come out with some major shock and awe plans for DHS and help Epcot and AK (which already seems to be partially in the works) soon

And I have no doubt it was a sure thing at the time, just nothing is a sure thing in The World of Disney until it is Vertical and not always then. Remember the Pop Legendary Years? They left that sit vertical a decade, one day there were construction workers the next day poof.

I'm not staying in those buildings.

(e tickets or not) it will never be good enough to many of those on this site
And there are those on this site who feel no matter what Disney does or however poorly they mismanage the legacy they are in charge of, its good enough. I havent seen anybody in this discussion criticize an actual ATTRACTION being built. They criticize the ACTION (or lack of) being taken by execs. You seem to confuse peoples concerns for decisions being made with the idea they are simply complaining about WDW in general. If someone uses Uni as a comparison for construction time on an attraction or money being spent on parks, you take it as they are bashing Disney and praising Universal? MM+ has run severely over its budget and its now affecting future projects. No speculation or insider info needed to know this. Disney grossly miscalculated the money, time frame, and technical issues regarding the scope of this and it has forced much needed magical (and money making) ideas back on the shelf. Some here choose to voice their feelings on the issue instead of half wit comments followed by a :) or "lol". And please stop with the "glass half empty/full" analogies. Most people here have a very FULL glass. It just may not be full of what you want it to be.

Actually, to be fair, without speculation and insider info, we would have no idea about MM+ until it's roll-out went public, and we would have no idea on it's budget, or that it went "over". And varying groups of insiders have always had different numbers on how much and how long that acutally was. We rely solely on insiders and speculation for all of these things, as Disney isn't going to be coming out to the public and showing their initial budget and implementation timelines. We have no idea outside of insider info and speculation that MM+ is affecting future projects at all!
Since we've had such good info from our insiders (and I am not being sarcastic here), we know about things that make it to varying degrees of drawing boards well before they are in any way greenlit. Maybe Disney is doing nothing (aside from finishing an expansion of Fantasyland, fixing what they broke at DTD with a massive project, and building an entire new land at DAK), or maybe they are deciding to be a little tighter with their information, spreading false information, or a combination of all of it.
We know nothing for a fact until ground is broken. It's fun to speculate. It's fun to get insider info. But Disney is under no obligation to ensure that insiders get information out to the public before they are ready for it to be there for the most part.

And Legendary, Wharf, Flamingo courtesy of the same Emperor. He seems to repeat the same errors. Loves to pull the rug out and then have a tantrum. I'm still in the camp that they extended his CEO-ship so Disney Springs and My Magical Bands/FP+ would fall into his legacy. We have about 5 more years to look at one of the first blunders under his banner. I look forward to the day I see a tweet that Leave a Legacy disappeared into the night.

When was this ?

First side Pop Century was to open in 1999 (welcome Iger) The resort was originally planned to open in 2001, though the opening was eventually delayed to March 2002. It was delayed once more before accepting reservations on April 22, 2003, and opening on December 13, 2003. There was a delay in construction across the bridge on Legendary but construction was completely halted after 9/11 attacks. (That is also when they shuttered Port Orleans and when brought back it became the French Quarter, Minus the amazing TS restaurant Bonfamille, you can still see the entrance near the lounge, it is now a test kitchen. Idiots.)

There were many false reports of Pop Legendary construction that was abandoned starting again, but then nothing for almost a full decade and the now Mermaid buildings were abandoned. There are some amazing photo's by Jeff Lange out there of the rotting buildings including the main building that even had signage.
I remember J. Hill saying construction would start again in 2010 turning Legendary into AoA Suites and the vast majority laughed their fool heads off at him.

A fair and honest viewpoint. Thank you. Comments like this greatly contribute to the discussion at hand. I agree Disney is under no obligation and never has been to disclose anything at all until they see fit. I would have to speculate though, that the kibosh on most current projects is directly related over spending from MM+. They are gonna do and spend everything to make this work so I would rather have them get it over with now rather than later. Time will tell how if it works the way they hope it will. Seems we have a long way to go though. Lets hope this coming "third time full roll out" is the final one.

Yeah, Disney was playing off the success of the paver brick sales around the Magic Kingdom. They came up with this because it was less expensive for them to engrave and install. A flop and eyesore. I believe it can be legally condemned in 2019. I believe. Not moment too soon.

There's no way Studios isn't getting Star Wars. They know Studios needs something substantial to compete with Universal Studios

Then where is it, my friend? There's not a bulldozer in sight at DHS. Not a whiff of a rumor of a closure of anything. Nothing is happening.

Universal's Potterland 2.0 opens in six months. And there's not a bulldozer in sight at DHS, or really anywhere at WDW. (Avatarland? When does that start construction again?)

It would appear that something happened recently with all those big plans for a DHS makeover. Something happened in TDO, because nothing is happening out in the parks. That's troubling, to say the least.
