AVATAR land - the specifics

What the above means is that Disney is just starting blue skying ... and not in any way ready for groundbreaking, unless they're just going to move dirt like Flamingo Crossing.

And feasibility research also can be read to
mean ''they're seeing if it's even possible -- or
possible with the $400-500 million budget -- to
actually build this at all.''

That's what you should have taken from Honor's blog post.

I realize there're many different factors that go into these things, but generally speaking, how long would a feasibilty study take? Is this something they can figure out relatively quick, or will it (necessarily/unnecessarily) take a long time?

I don't know the exact ride, but I would bet you it was the one planned based on The incredibles.

The ride system was virtually the same.

I never knew there was an idea for an Incredibles attraction knocking around at WDW. Is there even the slightest chance that it could be brought back for the (possible) overhaul at DHS or would it be beyond the budget that WDW would want to spend? Or might they just be happier with a RSR clone given it's success at DCA?

Something else I'd like to see, a classic dark ride. Maybe with innovative scenes (Horizons?) and sophisticated AA's and a decent travel time. I'm a bit old school in this, but I love dark rides.
I agree completely. I love dark rides (HM is my all-time favorite) and the forest of Pandora at night would be an incredible scene to ride through on an omni. Bioluminescent plants, AA forest creatures and Na'vi, the glowing spirit tree, it would be beautiful. Not to mention, Animal Kingdom is in dire need of an all-ages ride.

You mean, like Safari or Kali?

I guess you could even put Dinorama on that list too, but I think (assumption here) that neoshinok was speaking specifically to dark rides. I think a well designed dark ride in the tradition of HM or SE would really help flesh out AK and what they have to offer. More well rounded I guess. But I agree, AK has family oriented attractions, just not dark rides. Maybe Avatar/Pandora will "fix" that.

I agree and as to the soarin-esque style ride, here is the chance to do a new verision of Horizons so to speak. A mix of omnisphere/dome/screens etc, along with riding through-by actual sets. Some of the rumor descriptions I keep reading here about a box car hanging from a cable or whatever etc along with screems, I keep getting images of Horizons.

Love them both, but they certainly aren't "all ages rides". The Sarafi is available for all ages, but is bumpy and some folks can't tolerate it. I mean, most children can ride, but I don't think that's what was meant in the spirit of kid's rides. Kali has a height restriction. It's not too tall, but my 3.5 year old barely qualified last year.

The only real all ages ride they have at DAK is Triceratops Spin. There is a lot for kids to do, though, just not so much rides.

Triceratops Spin is a kids ride, adults very rarely go on that without a child. They missed the boat with Dinorama, specifically Primeval Whirl. That could have easily been a C-ticket dark ride that appealed to families.

Good things are coming. Look what Disney and a Berlin-based company have been developing:

i love it, how amazing interactivity has come!

it all reminds me of bjorks biophilia project mixed with a few of the instruments created for her volta tour. Shame she's not for everyone's taste, i would have loved for her to have done some kind of area/show music for pandora using interactivity :)

My understanding was that the Incredibles attraction was originally planned as the big E-ticket addition to DCA before Lasseter pushed for Carsland instead.

Sounds like some version of an Incredible's ride plan is waiting on the shelf.

this is what i think about when i look at the interactivity between those plants and then an idea about getting Bjork involved :)

I thought her voice sounded familiar... She did that stunning piece for opening ceremony of Athens 2004. :)

She and James Horner should do it together. My musical repertoire has expanded today. Thank you!

My handle states my opinion on the matter...

I couldn't agree more. Both Universal and Disney have completely missed a huge opportunity in their dinosaur lands.

The primeval world is absolutely fascinating to all ages and all demographics. Dinosaur the ride is a decent ride, but could be so much better. The question has to be offered, why isn't there more? Cool walk through attractions??? A second dark ride that is more family friendly??? A museum type exhibit??? A mine cart ride through an underground dig???

I'm just throwing out ideas that come to my head with no time or effort... Instead of something really fantastic that could eat people and sell little plastic Dinos by the bushel we got that carnival side show abomination.

My blood pressure is up. Thanks a lot Tim.

I'd love to see a dark ride too. Much like Tokyo Disney Sea's Journey to the Center of the Earth with a big ending a la Test-Track/Radiator Spring Racers

I agree 100%! I've have always been shocked at the lack of imagination in AK when it comes to prehistoric life. The largest, most terrifying animals that have ever lived, and we get Dinorama?!? The menagerie of animals (both land and marine) available for attraction scenarios is endless. And your statement about selling plastic dinosaurs? Spot on! Dinosaurs don't go "out of style" and I don't consider them a fad.

I'm with you in this . I get frustrated when I consider what could be (and easily so!) and what is.

This isn't the armchair imagineering forum, but this is something I've long thought about.

If they want a big immersive mind blowing land, but are missing the franchise tie in that they crave perhaps they need to go the opposite route. Go with an original area themed to a super popular genre.

Instead of Avatar or whatever, what if the big expansion was a "Mysterious Island" or "Land that TiMe Forgot" type land where Dinos and other mythical animals inhabited in present day. Big insane structures, heavily themed environment, cool rides, great unique merchandise, and NO licensing fee. Oh the possibilities.
