AVATAR land construction progress

Haha the one in the foreground will probably be, but is the larger one in the background too big?

Oh, I didn't even see the one back there! I was talking about the one in the foreground.

Hmmmm....it's oddly tall, and extends down toward the water. Could it be some sort of control room for the water show? Or a new restaurant?

I'm completely guessing, because I don't know DAK geography very well, nor have I been following this work as closely as I do other work.

I'm thinking maybe bathrooms. With a show as popular as FotLK that plays to full audeinces, you'd need nearby bathrooms for before and after the show. The closest bathrooms are across the main walkway next to Tamu Tamu. Since those are the main bathrooms for all of Harambe, they'd be overwhelmed when a show lets out.

And while we're talking bathrooms, they really need to add at least a small facility by the safari unload docks. We often want to go right into the walking trail after the safari, but invariably one or more people in the group have to use the bathroom first, requiring us to walk all the way back into the middle of Harambe and then backtrack to the trail.

Positive sign they are laying concrete. Usually making official walkways comes towards the end due to heavy trucks.

I wonder what the site lines will be like from outside the park? AK will definitely have multiple 'weenies" drawing people in with Everest and the Floating Mountains

site lines outside the park don't bother me..you can see space mtn, TOT, and SSE all from outside the park but that's just me

I thought the huge floating mtns from model was towards the back of the land

I think they are actually kind of a good thing, to build excitement as you approach the park. I do hope that any theming with Pandora is 360 degrees such that what you see from the parking lot/park entrance is visually appealing.

I think so, which would make them close to the front of the park and the parking lot. You enter the land across the bridge as you did for CMM, so things far from the land entrance would be more south, near the parking lot.

The staging area takes up a lot of the space behind Rainforest which is the closest part of the land to the parking lot. This would put the location of the the floating mountains further back and closer to, or even in where CMM is now.

so in your opinion the staging area will not be part of the land?

Any ideas on what this riverside building is in the FOTLK area? View attachment 46557

On the birdseye shots of the area, there was a building next to the west bridge (currently backstage and not accessible for guests) off of Discovery Island -- I think this picture shows that building. I think it will probably be some combo of merch/bathrooms to support the new FOTLK.

Yeah, isn't it possible that the what is currently the staging area can be used later to build on? That's what happened with the 7DMT, for example.

Looking at the aerials, if they are not going to re-route the existing roads, then it seems like a good place for a staging area since it is on the edge of the combined CMM/undeveloped plot. If they used somewhere else as the staging area, they'd have to place it further away and have to drive around waterways and across existing roads. It would seem reasonable to me to use that area as a staging area for the early part of development -- leveling, utility placement, etc. When they are ready to go vertical and potentially build on the staging area, then they can move the staging area to the backstage land to the west of DAK.

Also, I'd point out that there is some land north of the CMM backstage buildings (up to the west bridge off of Discovery Island) that could be used depending on how exactly they want to situate Pandora.

Yes, it is possible the staging area will eventually move so something can be constructed there but I don't think it's likely that anything major is going to be built there. Fantasyland was a different situation since they knew it would be a while before they were ready to start building the Mine ride, it was convenient to stage materials there. Just my guess, I could end up being wrong about this.

I am doubting they are going to move the road. It doesn't gain them much by doing that since just beyond the road is the drainage pond and cutting into that would probably be an even bigger job the moving the road. If this was already in the plans I am pretty sure it would have had to show up in the South Florida Water Management permit.
