AVATAR land coming to Disney's Animal Kingdom

To get this thread back on track about Pandora. My friend just got back from working on RSR and he said they are currently doing ride testing for the new attraction. I don't want to give away too many details because it is still in the testing/prototype stage, but it is like a cross between Forbidden Journey and the Pony Express.

And if Avatar is (hopefully) abandoned, maybe the same tech could be used for the Flying Monkey ride in the new Oz land... :D

Avatar >>>> Anything from Oz

The Great Movie Ride is enough for that franchise.

Feh. As if. I obviously disagree. Pandora's flying whatthehecks are just further variations on the dragon model, while flying monkeys are memorable just as a concept. And the 1939 film has a much better script, much better characters, and frankly, I think much better eye candy than Avatar. When it comes to memorable imagery, the ruby slippers alone beat ANYTHING spawned in Pandora (and what a dumb name for a fantasy world, by the way. Derived from a character from a Greek myth. At least "Oz" is an original word!)

please give up your fight against pandora and wait until some concept art comes out...how come you can like the ride concept for OZ but not for pandora...seems like if its a great ride its a great ride...period

I looked at a video of pony express on you tube. I say theme it for the flying dragons from pandora, and combine pony express with that side to side technology they are using for the 7 dwarves coaster at MK! Sorry...I'll take off my "armchair imagineer" hat! LOL

I don't know how we missed this before, but we have all overlooked the obvious merchandise opportunities for World of Avatar: Pandora Bracelets.
I just want an attachable tail with the weird little pink graspy things that come out of the end of it...would be a good look, yes? :D ... o_O

(I kid, I kid.)

TRON dead? where? Its planned in Shanghai only as far as I know

That is true. There was some chatter about it possibly being placed at MK and DL, but I think it was more wishful thinking on behalf of some Imagineering types looking for projects to keep busy (and employed).

Like the one made by an imagineer with an erector set one weekend that gets 100 minute waits every day at Epcot?

That was the one WDI wanted to do ... much like they thought JK Rowling would be impressed by a Potter ride based on TSMM!

But I do think Disney has moved off that because if it hasn't, then I seriously doubt this thing will ever be built.

Just wondering about this, maybe someone here will have a likely answer. Does/could the success of Carsland put any professional/corporate pressure on TDO/AK to pull off something as good or well received as DCA? In other words, from a corporate level, will Disney be expecting the upcoming Avatar (or anything else, I guess) to be as well funded and as well designed as Carsland? Kind of a "our guys on the west coast just hit a home run. What are you east coasters going to do now?"

Our trips are almost always 6 days. The first day we arrive, we don't go to a park and we just relax from the travel. So, we get multi-day passes that are for 4 days and then the last day we get a park hopper pass.

I always have the travel agent run it a couple of ways to see what works out to be the best value but this works for us.
I don't understand. A four-day MYW ticket is $256. Adding a park hopper brings it to $313. Whether you purchase the parkhopper the first day of your trip or the last day, the ticket costs exactly the same. But that's still only for 4 days. If you visit a fifth day, that adds $12 to your ticket.

Wait, did that really happen?

I hope so. That would be incredibly hilarious.
I was wondering about that too. The thought of Disney presenting that to Rowling/Warner as their proposal for the "big ride" in HP land really cracks me up. I can't even imagine the look that must have been on their faces. TSMM is fine but it is not anything super special.

Harry Potter in a shooting gallery? If that's true, then WOW... I'm holding out that that's not the case. How sad.

Disney to James Cameron, "We've got it Mr. Cameron, picture if you will, a wooded lane of purple plastic palm trees, a Natari meet n greet, and for those big dragon things, a spinner! What do you think Mr. Cameron? Mr. Cameron? James? Where are you going? Are you crying? I thought it was a great plan..."

Unfortunately, the two Disney theme park properties on opposing coasts seem to be moving further apart from each other operationally and culturally. Nothing TDO has done in the last few years proves they have any interest in duplicating Anaheim's success, nor does it even appear they are consciously aware of the success happening right now at Disneyland.

I'm not even sure they have working telephone lines between the two properties. There is no current evidence that TDO is communicating in any meaningful way with TDA. It's baffling to observe, really.
