AVATAR breaks ground

Me, I'm going to Universal next spring or fall. Had planned to spend a couple of days at WDW. Where, once again, I will skip going to AK.

Now if TDO built a really great Lion King attraction, complete with dark ride, in AK, I'd go visit there again. That's what it's going to take - Disney lions, not Cameron's blue kitties.

Because i want to know more about your apparent disdain for AK, this is how I'm viewing your opinion:

Lets say you are a Dem and a GOP donated his entire salary to homeless shelter and you would still say it was a selfish political move...

Am I wrong?

I know I'm late but ...

im always amazed by some of these post....people have no whats in store (nor do I) for this land

From descriptions and the leaked( they were building costing plans right?) kinda match ...

do you think the boat ride will have a drop like splash?

Nope, think Living with the Land if you want an attraction proximity ...

I find it hilarious that I quoted a line from Avatar and it got deleted on an unofficial WDW website yet TDO is building a land based on this movie with, well frankly, a dirty script.

I don't think it matters at this point, at least they are aiming at the teenager+ crowd rather than the under 9's which quite frankly at this point that alone is rather remarkable.

And yet people complain. I know the idea of Avatar may not thrill everyone, but it's been since Everest since Disney's even attempted anything with that demo in mind. It may turn out to be complete crap for all I know, but i'm willing to give it a chance. For as long as i've been a fan of theme parks, it's been proven time and time again that an IP doesn't need to be great to make a great attraction/land (and a great IP doesn't always make a great theme park attraction...).

Indeed. I'd just like to point out that one of WDW's most popular attractions is based on a 60-year old television anthology series that's really only aired once a year (thank heavens that SyFy *ugh at that name* hasn't nixed the New Year's tradition yet).

They are obviously moving ahead with it ... but at this point when I go into that Pandora and or stand in the centre of Star Wars Land then I will believe it. Both of those IPs lend to teenager+ crowd, that is the positive, if they get built that is another story - and we have a long way to go till that point.

I think there's too much on the line for too many people at this point for Avatar to NOT get built. Star Wars is another issue, although you would think that it would be quite the obvious decision to go forward with it. It's very much like Potter in that the only way it can fail is if Disney were to screw it up. And even then, people are still going to come out and they are still going to spend money.

I do wish people would give Pandora a chance and wait until it opens before criticizing it. That's what I did for the New Fantasyland. :D

Pandora will be the greatest addition to WDW since Expedition Everest (2006).

Pandora has the potential to be the greatest addition to WDW since DAK (1998).

However, that highlights one of WDW's current problems. Creatively, WDW has stagnated.

Tower of Terror blew me away in 1994. Test Track (1999) was an impressive technical achievement. Mission Space (2003) was unlike anything I had ever ridden. Yet with Pandora scheduled to open in 2017, that's a 11-year span with little to show creatively at WDW.

With the folks in Burbank dithering on DHS's Star Wars Land because of budgetary concerns, Pandora represents the only confirmed major project at WDW in the foreseeable future.

Creatively, Iger's regime has been a disaster for WDW. Disney needs new leadership with fresh thinking, someone who views WDW as more than just a place to fill hotel rooms and sell timeshares.

The dystopia in this place drains me; I don't think I can take another three years of it.

You actually think the complaining will stop once this opens?

I would prefer that as well but that ship has sailed. I am going to attempt to be open minded about this Avatar area as I think it could be pretty awesome if they do it right. You may be pleasantly surprised. DAK definitely needs something because, let's face it, even with the additions since opening it has never been a park most people can or want to spend an entire day in.

You have to understand that Magenta is violently opposed to anything in Disney parks that wasn't created by Disney.

The complaining will never stop because "Disney Entitlement Syndrome" is incurable.

Before it opens: "Why are the building Avatar, they should build Beastly Kingdom Instead"
When it opens: "This is nice, but Beastly Kingdom would have been so much better"
When they close it and build Beastly Kingdom: "Why did they close Avatar to build stupid Beastly Kingdom!"

I wonder how malleable Avatarland would be in the face of people not really caring about Smurfycats? You probably could reverse engineer a fantasy setting out of the Roger Dean Ripoff Landscape, get rid of all the sci-fi elements, and there you go.
But people could say the same thing about WWOHP. I have no desire to even pick up a Harry potter book let alone go to his world. But they are making bank. Avatar is a world wide property just like HP it will do fine.
