I agree with most of what you say... except for the fact that if Disney had done with Uni is doing and one up'ed them... there would still be people complaining about it on here :)

Well, you are probably right. But people will complain about anything. The issue right now is that the complaints at the moment are legitimate. We all came here as fans, and for a decade now have had to shake our heads in horror as we have watched TDO neglect our beloved parks. Being financially driven is fine, but you also need passion for your product to truly be successful. Uni seems to have passion right now.

Sometimes I wonder how much of Uni motivations is Passion or Comcast desire for revenge. Either way it doesn't matter, Uni is cranking out some nice stuff and I am waiting to see Disney respond.

Passion and confidence, mostly. The WDW/UOR hatred that some fans have basically doesn't exist in the comapnies' eyes. There may be a friendly competition, but Universal isn't angling to put WDW out of business. Comcast has just seen tremendous success with their theme park investments, and will continue doing so until they stop increasing guest spending and attendance increases.

Those are both passion. Whether Steve Jobs was motivated by his love of Apple or his hatred for Bill Gates, he passion to deliver the best products were what mattered. Disney won't respond because financially, people are still coming in droves and they don't care about their product, as long as the financials keeps churning the profits. Pixie Dust is powerful stuff and its hard to break the WDW habbit. Disney knows this. But, eventually, they are going to need more than nostalgia.

When I stated revenge, I am referencing Comcast's attempt to buy Disney years ago in a joking way, not corporate anger.

Agreed, Disney is gonna need either a Financial drop to inspire building of the parks or a new leader who is willing to fight the investors in getting the parks worked on. Agreed with the passion statement, both in a way need each other. Microsoft Saved Apple and Apples has done alot for Microsoft if you think about it.

I don't think they should build Star Wars Land in DHS and turn around and do Star Wars Land 2 (to expand it) in EPCOT

Uni doesn't have the same luxary of space that Disney does, they had to put it where they thought it fit physically the best. It is also a good business decision since it will help spread the crowds across two parks. Phase one gave IOA of a huge boost, but a much smaller one for Studios. I don't think Uni has gone to far with HP. Even with the current end of the book and movie series it is still a very popular franchise. Phase one showed that there is huge demand for it so it makes sense to expand it further. I think they could turn around tomorrow and re-theme phase 1 to something else and they still will have made their money back on the deal.

Now, if they decide to do a major phase 3, that might be another story.

Really hope this is not the case. Sounds just like recycled version of soarin. Seems like uni is pushing the envelope and Disney is falling behind

Uni newest rides are just similar to other rides. Transformers is Spiderman, Despicable Me is rethemed Jimmy Neutron. Simpsons ride is rethemed BTTF.

Granted they have built more but other than HP, how have they pushed the envelope other than an accelerated construction schedule?

To say this is just a rehash of Soarin is generalizing it.

I guess its cheaper to show a 3d movie then to actually create show sets

Not really - it's more about what can you do in a theme park attraction with physical sets vs what can you do in video.

No matter what you do - you aren't going to be flying at 50mph inside a room making 6G turns with physical sets. But on video.. you could make people feel like they were...

one big problem with that ride, that is not often mentioned is how single riders get hosed every time with a crappy seat at the end with a great view of the side of the screen

One big problem with single riders is... they don't acknowledge they are second class boarders.

Pushing the envelope.... FJ. Gringotts. Even Hogwarts.

Transformers.... On two floors with high speed elevators? That's certainly pushing an existing envelope.

The other examples are high budget refurbs of existing facilities. Kind of what Imagination should have been and what things like PotC needs. Not to mention both are undergoing yet more enhancements.

At least two more non-HP forthcoming projects will push that envelope again.

Avlands anchor is looking more and more like a modern day Soarin style experience. Shame on them. The land and the park need and deserves more. I'm sure it'll be very nice. But it should be more. Like jaw dropping, unique, worlds first, a must ride. Technically stunning, fully immersive. The last thing that should be done -again- is a land that looks great but where the looks actually surpass the content.

One of the differences is that at least DM is an improvement over Jimmy as opposed to Stich vs. Alien Encounter or what the new Imagination is for example.

Also you can't dismiss HP phase 2. With an amazing E-ticket dark ride, another amazing, innovative show/ride E-ticket train, a few substantial surprises within an extremely detailed, immersive new land that will make the new Fantasyland look like Six Flags (slight exaggeration but not far off in my opinion), a new magic wand interactive experience in both lands, and more...how can you say what Uni is doing is not pushing the envelope? I think Uni has already purchased a new envelope.

Holy cow, (s)he's back!
And not locked up in some sort of secret Universal Creative prison ship off the coast of Signapore!

a new magic wand interactive experience in both lands,

Is this referring to the Olivander's going into Diagon Alley? Wouldn't the original shop need to be closed for upgrades?
Or are we talking about a land-wide, RFID-based attraction/game on the same scale as the "Treasures of the Seven Seas" at Adventureland?
...because Universal really ought to implement a project along those lines, assuming they can build around patents.
something like that would pay for itself in resin-cast wand sales in the first 25 minutes.

I wasn't referring to Olivander's.
