Article about a Lost attraction

Eh....I almost require a show that takes commitment.
Lost. Battlestar Galactica. 24. Sopranos. Deadwood. Twin Peaks. Dexter.
I want to know that on a certain night I can loose myself into another world for an hour or two, and continue a great story.

I don't dislike shows that allow you to just drop in, they can be fun. But even then, I look for a continuing story that bridges the entire series. Like X-Files in it's glory years.

Of course....DVR helps a lot. Allows you to miss an episode or two and catch up later.

I have books for that.

A DVR would be a huge help to me, even though I don't watch any show religiously, save for Law and Order.

I didn't see if anyone saw this... but Movieline.com is confirming that a Lost ride is being worked on.

This week, Lost fans have been buzzing about a petition for Disney to develop a Lost attraction at one of their theme parks (so much so that Movieline came up with five necessary suggestions for such an endeavor). Executive producer Carlton Cuse responded by tweeting that he’d like to see Disney make “a big Lost E-ticket ride,” a comment I’d mostly brushed off until a trusted source revealed there’s more to the story.
According to Movieline’s mole, a Lost ride is one of several attractions being workshopped at Walt Disney Imagineering right now, and loose-lipped WDI insiders were buzzing about the project at the recent International Associations of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAPPA) show in Las Vegas. The Lost attraction would be a motion-based dark ride featuring Kuka arm technology (right), the flexible new innovation that Universal is employing for its upcoming Harry Potter theme park.

Oh, me too. No doubt.
I just disappeared in to King's "Under the Dome" for several days.
900 pages worth of me being an unreachable lump on the couch.

Odd considering Uni has an exclusive deal with Kuka for the next few years.

I did watch The Sopranos, I will give you that. But new episode for that series were so sporadic it really did not require a weekly committment.

What I miss are the shows like M*A*S*H. You could drop into an individual episode and be just fine. However the evolution of the cast over the entire series run was also a story in and of itself.

The problem with knowing I can drop in at a set night at a set time is that I rarely have the same time and night available from week to week. Yeah, I have a DVR, yeah I know it could work for me, but for some reason I have an adversion to it. Maybe it's because if I watch more than 4 hours of TV a week, thats a lot for me. Believe it or not, there are some days I never turn it on - shocking !!

They mention "The Sum of All Fears" in the article... same technology right?
Sort of.
My understanding is that the deal with Uni relates to the use of the Kuka as a ride vehicle. Maybe since SoaF is stationary, it is excluded. That or it was in development when the deal was made and was grandfathered in.

If a show is a type of 'commitment', then usually the characters become very familiar and you start to care about them and the plotline. Also, with reality TV you need that commitment to have a connection with the contestants (Big Brother, Survivor). Just my opinion though.

He's so modest....

I'll spill the beans since '74 won't. I have it on good authority he's very close to Nikki and Paulo.

:D

Nope. Never met them.

But when we do lunch I might bring a few pics of the folks I do know!:D
(and still not sure about when that might be ... had an unexpected trip to the ER today -- not me, a parent ... and may be headed to LA in the a.m.)

Are you pulling my leg? Aside for Disney, Lost is basically my life. Autograph? :lookaroun I can be your nephew for a day who really is a big fan of Lost and just so happens to be a huge fan of (insert name 1 of lost actor you know) and (insert name 2 of Lost actor you know).

No leg-pulling. Despite what some folks here believe, I actually have considerable ties to the entertainment/media business. But I don't do autographs for my friends, so I wouldn't do them for anyone here. Sorry. I just would feel funny asking.

And while Disney and Lost are great things to be into, I'd suggest you should expand your horizons. There really is a whole world out there.

As to who I know personally ... all I'll say is one has been a regular since Day 1 ... and another has been on since the middle of Season 2. And they're both VERY talented. And great guys (well, there's a hint) too!

Dude, that retheme isn't until after Silver Surfer takes over Mission Space.

the scary thing is some of you brats actually think that would be a good thing!

The thing is, although I make committments to many things in my life (Family members, fraternal organizations, charity groups, government bodies) a TV show is just something that I don't make a committment to.

-dave

Oh, well don't I feel inferior!:rolleyes::ROFLOL::)

I get your point, but I view Lost as I would reading a work of literature or even a hobby like posting on MAGICal Disney sites.

Maybe committment is a strong word, although I think you took it to an extreme degree.

But I realize many folks would rather watch something they don't have to keep up with ... another reason why daytime dramas/soaps are sadly dying.

I've enjoyed Lost immensely ... and I didn't meet anyone from the show until it had already been on for over a year, so that didn't factor into it at all. It's just like the best thrill ride, you don't know what's going to happen next.

I'll take that over wrapping things up nicely with the perp confessing to David Caruso at the end of an hour. :snore:

^ Yea, I'm anti-"commitment television" myself. I like the old school formula of a single, self-contained, well-crafted television episode.

Too hard to catch up on past episodes. Too frustrating to get into a series for a season only to have it cancelled before there's any plot resolution. (Invasion, anyone?).

I get that. Although I thought Invasion was weak. But ABC burned me with The Nine (some potential) and then rushed Life on Mars (a GREAT show) to conclusion when it was canceled.

I have concerns about Flash Forward, which started great, became almost unwatchable and then had two great hours before leaving until March ... and V as well.

But they're still quality and I'll commit to them at this point unless they lose my interest.

Lost was a Top 10 show at the start and has always been solid in the ratings, so there was never a question of it getting dropped before it finished telling its story.

Most of the crime dramas on CBS, I can tell where they're going in the first 10-15 minutes. Not much fun.

If I want predictable, I can always go to the MK!

All these new suspense-based "commitment series" are just today's Dallas and Dynasty.

(hides ladle :lookaroun)

And Dallas was a great TV show at its heyday. It was most-see TV. Back before the Internet age. ... I remember people having watch parties after JR Ewing was shot every Friday night.

I know the excuse as to why we don't have shows like that anymore is that people are too busy, the world is too fast-paced ... yada, yada, yada ... they're all excuses.

Funny how people who don't want to commit to a show that makes them think have no problem committing to watching shows like Idol, Survivor, Dancing With the Stars or even 24 (which I enjoy a lot too, but can't be missed week to week).

I do not watch LOST because it made me think TOO much....It drove me crazy...not because I could not commit..because I commit to a lot..A LOT of reality shows on a weekly basis..with Brothers and Sisters the only show I watch that is not reality..:lookaroun..I just would get so confused and would get all mixed up..so I leave that to my husband to watch who loves it!..:D

I did love Knots Landing and Dallas though..had to see them every week...especially since there were no DVR or hulu..

Back to your regular conversation!..:D

Ooh. I have not read King in ages.

I'm currently balancing "A Land So Strange" about the Spanish Colonization of America, The Historian, The ACTUAL tale of Dracula, or Vlad the Impaler...And ontop of that, my textbooks. Fun.

WOW, you know Michael Emerson?!?!

That alone is enough to make me bow to you, but since there is no bow smiley face, I must *bow*

I didn't want to tell you, but I was serious about Lost in UoE... I can just picture DHARMA and using energy in a bad, bad way.:lookaroun

I was wondering if you would throw the post on a WDW message board out there as a commitment.

The thing is, this board does not require a set date or time, it is catch as catch can.

All the other things I am involved in have set dates and times, they just preempt TV in my life.

I love Lost. I hated TV until it. I was always more into movies and books, but then Lost came along and blew me away. The writing, acting, cinematography, and direction are all top notch. The ideas, both philisophical and supernatural, are thought provoking and often mind bending. Just great television all around. Lost was just the first of many serialized shows I'd get into, like The Wire, Deadwood, Rome, Mad Men, and Breaking Bad. All these shows are better than most films of the past decade, so it's really not fair to knock shows that attempt to give the viewer something more than a quick fix or a television Happy Meal. For those who can't catch serialized shows on a consistent basis...TV on DVD. You can't beat it.

Anyway, rant aside, I don't see a Lost attraction happening. At least not soon. Like others have pointed out, the fanbase for Lost may be large, but it still isn't enough to appeal to everyone, like much of Disney does. Especially with the end approaching, it will still be sometime before Lost's true legacy can be written in stone. However, if Disney does find a way (god forbid) to keep the franchise going with spin off shows and what not...well then maybe we'll see some kind of attraction.

I'd personally be happy with an exhibit of props and costumes taking over the Prince Caspian stuff in DHS. While an mega budget E-ticket would be awesome, this would do just fine and be far more likely to happen.

True enough for some of us ... for others it seems to take the place of work/sleep/relationships/school etc!:ROFLOL::eek::wave:

I know I could be doing something more productive right now (although watching the Cowboys trounce the Eagles wouldn't be one ... )

I envy you Dave, seriously. In my line of work, my schedule is different from week to week, day to day ... long periods of work, sometimes many days straight ... and then slow periods. I honestly don't know what a schedule is.

Of course, if I did, I likely wouldn't be typing this now!
