Article about a Lost attraction

I can't imagine a Lost attraction in Frontierland any MK-style park. Makes no sense to me thematically.

I could easily see a Lost attraction of some sort somewhere in the Disney empire. There are lots of possibilities

1. Sets and props at DHS, strewn about a random beach at WDW or Castaway Cay.

2. Use Lost as the theming for redone scenes in the Backstage Tour.

3. A special effects based Lost show at DHS, in Adventureland and/or Disneyland Studios Paris (smoke monster, exploding plane engine, big purple radiation with hatch collapse, etc.) comparable to Twister at Universal.

4. Something on the old Discovery Island. My preference would be the Dharma Initiative takes over the island. So when you go, you aren't looking at the island as the 815ers saw it, but you're coming on as new recruits in the Dharma Initiative. You'd have to make it very interactive to make it work, but it could be very interesting. And very expensive, of course.

I'm a big poster on the Lostpedia forums and the general consensus is:

Disney World is way better than Disneyland
Lost should have its own major attraction
.... but some doubt Disney is capable/will do a good job

:p

Lost is certainly more interesting than WDW ...

It has actually been rumored a simulator ride using the Kuka technology in SoaT is in development for a Lost attraction with the slight chance of it landing in WDW.

And that is pretty interesting.

Any ideas or rumours on what kind of story they would do with a simulator?

I would retheme the Dinosaur ride at AK. The preshow would include some Dharma Initiative films. You are new recruits and the Jeeps are taking you to Othersville. Along the way you take a short cut and run into various defense mechanisms present on the Island (and since you dont know the code to turn them off..you are in trouble)...in a very dark indoor environment you encounter the smoke monster, polar bears, flaming arrows, etc...

What percent of the guests coming to WDW watch 'Lost' and could relate to a 'Lost' attraction ?

:)

Therein lies the conundrum. However, a thrill ride is a thrill ride. Half of the guests at WDW don't follow the 'story' of an attraction anyway. Buckle them up and toss them around and they'll be happy.

This is a tough one for me, as I am a Lost addict and would love to visit a replica of the island!

Does it fit in The Magic Kingdom? Not really. Do I like TSI? Not really. But TSI attracts a lot of little boys, my nephew being one. My husband and his brothers loved it there when they were younger. They loved the caves & fake guns & forts. This is definitely driven at kids, whereas virtually no children are going to know what Lost is all about.

I personally think it would be cool if they made all the hatches, and you could go inside them. Maybe even push the button. :p I do think it is a more adult attraction though, and I can't see Disney taking out a kids attraction to put in a more adult one. I wouldn't hate it if they did it, and I wouldn't hate it if they didn't.

A Lost attraction WOULD fit in better at DHS, I totally agree with that.

No! No! No!

I can somewhat understand the appeal of Lost, for the mystery of it all, but I just didn't like it. Didn't work for me. Even if I did like it, Lost doesn't fit in with the Frontierland / Liberty Square area.

WDW does have that large, unused island in Bay Lake, which used to be Discovery Island. They can build their Lost attraction there.
But ten years ago, 'Myst' fans dreamed of that island housing an attraction for that game - which is now completely forgotten, as I think Lost will be too in a decade.

LOVE "LOST" but not at MK....actually not anywhere "Disney" lol - DL and WDW need to stay just that....DL and WDW - we have found them, we know where they are and they don't need to get "LOST" LOL

Disney is certainly capable of making a great Lost attraction.

It really doesn't matter if people know of Lost are fans, hardcore fans or even dislike or don't understand the show. Agreat attraction is a great attraction and can survive on its own no matter what its source material. How many people who go on Splash Mountain have seen Song of the South? Does it matter? No, they enjoy it anyway.

The biggest problem seem to be having with this idea is location. I agree that Tom Sawyer Island isn't a good place for it. Adventureland would be a good place but the Hollywood Studios would be better since they really need more attractions there anyway.

I disagree.
I don't see how they could fit a totally fictional place like the Lost island into the Studios. It would really clash with the real-world settings of that park.
Adventureland though....lots of possibilities.

It would require a ton of themeing, and expansion, but they could pull it off. As you said, DHS is real world, and Lost looks the part!

Eh...I'm not so sure.
Hard to see them being able to pull off a convincing transition from Hollywood to an island in the south pacific. Seems like it would only work if they themed it as a visit to the Lost set or something. I don't like that idea.

Nah...I'm convinced. Adventureland is the only park setting I could see it working in.
