Are you 23?

I am an outsider here. I am not 64, nor 23. However, I do read this thread with great interest because I am interested in the D23 club. So far, Disney hasn't given me a good enough reason to join yet. The magazine, while nice, isn't something that pushes me over the edge to join. I am still waiting for that WOW factor.

With that said, I do see the posts from these D64 pioneers as being a bit harsh. You do come across as bitter, even though you all claim not to be. I believe you aren't bitter, just disappointed. But, realize, bittier is how you look.

I am all for your D64 club, or watchdog group, what ever you are. I am all for you all trying to force Disney to reach the standard we all hold them in. However, posting on WDWMagic and looking bitter doing it is not going to get Disney's attention. They will write you all off as little spoiled children bitter because they didn't get that toy they wanted for Christmas.

Please, keep your D64 club going. Get it growing. However, please stay on message with it. Stop looking for dang bitter. Stop coming across as selfish, spoiled kids who don't get their way. Instead, be more professional with your comments, with your posts, and with your club. This D64 group has great potential to be a game changer, if you just stay on message. Keep fighting to get D23 to be something spectacular. But do it professionally. That is the way to get Disney's attention.

Please take this as constructive critism and not a bashing. :)
Well said!

I fail to see the difference in your constructive criticism and the posts you say appear bitter.

Apart from yours does appear more condescending. No offence

Agreed. Perception is 9/10ths of reality and that goes for corporations as well.

Given what has been demonstrated in this thread and in other places, the D64 group's message is lost in the protest.

In all honesty, it reminds me of D-Troops from several years back.

On a non-argumentative note, I just received my card and welcome package. The card isn't paper, but rather just a bit less than a room-card printing, not shiny on the front, but paper-esque (appropriate seeing that there's a picture of the sketch of Mickey in bandleader attire on it).

The membership cards, to me, have the same feel-in-the-hand as the current (non-embossed) DVC member cards, although without the glossy front.

And if they do lower the price then those that struck while the iron was hot will be angry because they paid more.

Unless Charter membership happens to have some not-yet-announced privilege. Maybe the free gift and having "charter member" plastered all over your member docs is the extent of it, maybe not. We really don't know yet.

This thread has completely derailed.

No offense taken, but you really did not comprehend ANYTHING I wrote in my post, did you? Or, are you just so much of a negative nelly that anything postive you cannot grasp?

I was not bitter in my post toward D64, was I? In fact, I appluded their efforts. I suggested they not be so bitter with their posts of protest. I encourage them to go on, but be a bit more professional sounding with it. How is that me being bitter?

Oh I understood well enough, Its just that I decided to use as lose a definition of the term bitter as you appear to be doing. There are several terms far more apt to describe their posting regardless of which side of the debate you choose to stand, but bitter isnt one I would apply from either. However I think we both know your motivation.

One thing about being negative is that I don't expect my input on a fan site to have any bearing on the day to day operation of a business, and I would suggest it would take several thousand to create anything louder than a whimper that Disney may hear.

I dunno Tam, they appear to have heard the complaints about shipping fees to Canada... I don't think there were several thousand, but they've reduced the fees by almost 50% in response.

I've emailed them about the UK shipping, so we'll wait and see - but I won't hold my breath!

You don't know my motivation, but I do. Here is the thing: The D64 people claim they want D23 to succeed and that they aren't against it. I beleive them. However, their posts come across as bitter and wanting D23 to fail. I know that is not their purpose, but, that's how they come across. They claim they want to make Disney realize their mistake with the D23 offerings. Fine, I am all for that. However, they are going about it all wrong. Their posts come off as I described before, whiny spoiled children who didn't get their favorite toy on Christmas.

My post to them was simply asking that they continue their pursuit, but, me more professional about it. They want to get the message across to Disney that D23 can be and should be more that a glorified mall. If Disney does see their FB page, and if they do read these posts, the Disney people are going to laugh at them. Disney is supposed to be aprofessional company. You don't get their attention by whining. You get it by being professional, acting professional, and speaking professional. Maybe, just maybe, if they took this approach, Disney could possibly listen. It is a slim possiblity, but, trying never hurt.

Honestly I, the Founder, don't care if Disney changed anything about D23, I still wouldn't join. But like I said, 64 is for people who, deep down in their hearts, are much more than 23, the reasons we aren't 23 are all different and can be argued on their own terms.

And you know me, I'm not the professional type.

So, then you are just being whiny about the whole thing, with the thought of spreading your hatred for D23 to others? :drevil:

Geez, man, I tried to throw a bone to you all, and you ruined it. LOL.

I didn't say I hated 23. I'm not whining about it. I just don't care for what it currently is. All I did was found a much cooler club.

I really am trying to leave this thread... but really? Maybe some of the posts from some of the people are what you describe, but apparently all of my logical, based on reason points of discussion don't count? What about the multitude of others real points of discussion and reason? We don't count?
We get lumped in with "all of them"? See, that's what makes this really annoying. We can post discussion with thought and reason and it is ignored in favor of "lipstick on a pig". Seriously, everyone knows what it means, but yet puts it in whatever context suits their individual argument at the moment.
With almost 150 "fans" on FB, I promise you we are not all bitter and whiners. We are fans who want to be 23, but see no value in it for what we have to pay to be. Show me value and I will "show you the money". End, period, done.

Edit to add, posted on the FB page today-
Going through old Disney magazines I saw an ad for the Disney Club. Discounts on hotels, park tickets, disney store, free disney magazine, special events and merchandise and it was only $39.95.

Come on now this is getting stupid!
Over the years many companies have had 'Collectors Clubs' eg: Cherished Teddies, Royal Doulton etc for interested collectors (surprisingly). For the annual fee the collector usually gets a 'gift' only available to the club members, and quarterly issues of a magazine. The collector/ member is aware that they are paying over the odds - but they join anyway BECAUSE THEY ARE INTERESTED! and if they don't enjoy it, then they don't rejoin the next year. It is an informed decision made by an adult. How is D23 different? in actual fact, the magazine is probably of better quality than most of these 'collectors clubs'. (My only issue with it has been the shipping costs to UK).
It's the same here... I'm disinterested, I'm not joining, I'm talking about that. I'm trying to let Disney see what they are doing wrong...maybe they will listen. Crazier things have happened. I seem to remember a large EPCOT event about two years ago that was VERY much a fan based action.:D

I apologize if my posts came across as whiny.

They were intended to be derisive, mocking, lampooning, incredulous, and just downright hostile.

I'm sorry, but the only thing that makes me mad about TWDC is when they think their customers are stupid. I don't care about compromised backstory, cartoonization, unthemed coaster rail, etc.

It's things like double-charging after hours parties, diminishing restaurant product while raising the price, cutting park entertainment when attendance "goes down," and other such niceties that blatantly demonstrate that TWDC thinks their customers are dodos, that really ticks me off.

I'm sorry, but I think D23, as it stands now, falls in this category.

You're right, of course...but it's what I call the George Will syndrome. (Actually, I just made up that term right now, but I like it.)

George Will is an articulate, even-tempered, thoroughly logical right-wing commentator who presents arguments with minimal emotion or personal malice...so he naturally gets drowned out by loudmouths like Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity.

(For the record, I'm not saying Evan or Travis come off nearly as oafish as those guys...just that it's human nature to overlook the quiet, nuanced debaters for the more vocal types.)
