Anyone ever notice how popular the Enchanted Tiki room merchandise is on ebay? The original show was enchanting, and had the ability to send one into a place of sheer delight -just as Walt intended. We were so upset when evil was introduced to Walt's charming idea... We never went in again, and we have been back to Magic Kingdom at least 20 times. My son cried for days when they changed it. We need more happy and charming in this ever increasingly crazy world -Isn't that what most of us are going to Disney world for anyway?
I agree... My daughter has never seen the original in person.. I saw the Tiki birds for the first time in years and years 3 years ago and was HIGHLY disappointed, my 3 year old was scared of the mean bird. I showed her the original on You Tube and she Loved it .... we both are so excited at the thought of seeing the original in Mk once again.

I remember reading a while back that TDS was getting its own Magic Carpets ride in their Arabian section (where it actually makes sense.) My first thought was, "Hey, maybe they'll just ship ours over to them." I don't know if that's how that would work, cost effectiveness compared to just building a new one, etc. but that would be fantastic.

The rumor (a year and a half ago, or so) was that the carpets themselves would be shipped to Tokyo and the spinner would be re-used for the second Dumbo. With Tokyo's carpets opening soon, it's pretty obvious that it's not happening, but it would have been a good idea.

I am not sure if this is Tiki related but while I was behind the Magic Kingdom the other day, I saw these two suspicious fellows:

Sorry...the pic didn't upload right.

I don't recall seeing these Tikis anywhere in Adventureland, nor the Polynesian, they could be part of some holiday decor or something Special events keep around but when I saw them the first thing I thought of was an upcoming Tiki upgrade. Just thought I would pass this along.

Really bummed that it won't be open in time for my trip next month. I had actually never visited UNM until a few years ago and really enjoyed it. Ah well, 'til next time.

In terms of UNM, I don't think there will be a next time. I sure hope not. It was not that good.

"Flown the coop?"

I'm not sure how reliable of a source this should be, but the Wikipedia article for the Tiki Room says "On April 24, 2011, Disney confirmed the Iago has "flown the coop" and that "Tropical Serenade" will reopen on August 16, 2011." Has anyone else heard about this? The article is still looking for a citation for it, so maybe it's just a rumor, but we can hope, can't we? :D

Things have sure been hush hush, is it still on track? Odd that no permits have been filed by now, but maybe its a little too soon yet.

I heard there is a good possibility of the re-opening date getting pushed back even further again.
