No need to kill a classic. Especially one made by Walt himself.

Classic is in the eyes of the guests - and in the numbers in attendance. The entire time I was at DL I never saw a mass crowd qued up for the classic version. A few people yes, but not throngs. I know there was dismal attendance for UNM as well - that is why it seems like it is time to explore a way to pay tribute the past yet keep an eye to the future. Walt himself did that. No one knew the amazing possibilities that would exist 50-60 years ago. I know change is hard, and it is important to respect the grand traditions that all of this was built on - that seem like why everyone HATES UNM since it tramples on that, but there still needs to be a way to be nostalgic without simply remaining rooted in the past. Build on the foundation - don't sink with it.

I'm really not going to get my hopes up about this. It would be awesome if done right but I don't trust whatever team is running things there after the HM "additions". For the past few years WDW management has gotten a bad rep. and they really aren't known for doing things just to make the parks better. Again, I would LOVE to see the original return as it should but I don't want to see it done half a$$ed.

Well if making the parks better means higher attendance and a ROI, then they would spend the money for it. The problem is if they do it half @$$ed, because any improvement will require more money shortly down the line to spend real money to finish the job.

i'm also gonna get flak for this...but i also liked UNM. ^^;
thought it was rather clever using Iago and Zazu.
i'd like to see them bring it back, but maybe just improve on it!
mix some of the old with the new maybe?

That sounds like something Sonny would do, it would actually work rather well.

It would only work if they just present the tiki birds to us in the pre-show, the problem with unm is that they takeover the show.

I'm in the camp that would like to see the original return. Oh wait......it did at Disneyland. I love it there and the whole experience including the pre-show is timeless and classic and totally a must do like the COP is for me at WDW.

I was OK with the New Management show, but it was full of pop culture references and now seems very very dated to me. So it really needs to be freshened or replaced. So if the old show becomes the new show? That would be fine with me. But if the show is supposed to attract and appeal to a new audience? Eventually it should be replaced with something completely new. For right now however, I would welcome the classic show. It would be an admission that modern isn't always better.

you guys hit it on the head with the idea of keeping some of the old - yet rotating songs in and making fresh and relevant yet still being quaint and nostalgic. With all of the new emphasis on alternate endings and ways to ensure repeat visits - I would think this would already be in the works. I DO think UNM needs to go away - it is no longer new or relevant. The reactions from my family however does indicate that there is a desire for something more than JUST reliving childhood memories over and over the exact same way. That is why they are called memories - you remember them, cherish them and continually look every day for new ways to create amazing NEW memories. I look forward to seeing if Disney embraces this philosophy with this attraction and possible changes - or if they cop out and bring back what they had (UNM) OR give in to pressure from "preservationists" and just bring back the original. Either way we are deprived of the potential to create some amazing NEW memories

There's no doubting UNM is an awful show; at least the original has tiki nostalgia going for it. Offenbach and "Let's All Sing Like the Birdies Sing" are the only musical numbers that have aged poorly. If WDI simply swapped those with some newer tropical tunes, the show would be fine.

That would be pretty funny actually, scary too, but funny. I cant quite see the tiki birds singing Bad Romance, but would be hilarious.

Of course there's doubting. Several posters in this thread doubt it.

While I am not disagreeing with you. Lets all be careful what we wish for or we will get a redo that has Lilo and Stich hosting! :ROFLOL:

Looked like they stopped right before you went in to the show room. I hope to go sat. And I will take a few pics. But if it is up around the pre show area isn't that a good indication that it is being changed?

Ignoring all of the rumors reported about the Tiki Room, the fact that the entire preshow area is surrounded by walls would indicate significant refurbishment work.
