Any chance this Splash Mountain retheme is cancelled?

Oh man, I just realized it'll probably be next to impossible to get anything Splash Mountain related at the parks even once they reopen.

And I'm almost positive the parks blog specifically said, initially, that it would reopen at both parks once both parks were reopened, but they edited that part of the article, so I can't confirm.

I would agree, for two main reasons -

1. Disney may pull all Br'er character and 'Splash Mountain' merch from shops.

2. Disney may leave out what they have, as the die hard fans and local resellers will snap up everything still available.

And yes, I'm pretty sure I also saw that statement in the official Disney announcements....Parks Blog included.
Why would that statement now suddenly get changed / pulled?
Are they fearing people are going to be showing up and protesting it's still open?
It can't be because they are going to start work on the retheme....some sources here have mentioned it's going to take some time before it happens.

I wouldn't have read this article though, and I did read the parks blog article. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe it never said that in the parks blog article.

Hmm. I don't recall it but I certainly could be wrong.

Also for the benefits of @SuddenStorm and anyone else contemplating Tokyo travel, TDR has FINALLY released an English language app. Just a year or two ago you couldn't even make dining reservations in advance as an English speaker unless you were staying at their Disney hotels. This is huge!

I'm still shocked by Disney's response. They've historically never really cared about petitions. They certainly don't drive their creative choices when it comes to major attractions. "Problematic" elements of POTC were left for decades and they don't seem to have really been driven by complaints. Kim Irvine's ridiculous comments defending putting movie dolls in the Small World ride are notorious.

There's one sort of example from recent history where the doll stand in the Main Street theater managed to go viral among the fanbase (You were all freaking out) and even get some bad press and Disney swiftly removed it. They've also allegedly brought back Abe Lincoln due to guest complaints in the past, but I'm not 100% sure about that incident because it happened before my time.

But this is the sole example of a petition with a specific remake in mind of a major attraction that Disney not only responded to, but promised exactly what was proposed.

Probably because the idea was already there in house and some people in the company encouraged the petition/twitter trends.

Disney is usually very much against ideas fans suggest for legal reasons. Only ideas from within the company are allowed.

Disney has never really cared about or respected their fans. Only their money.

You can't blame them when the fans eat up junk like Pixar Pier.

Ugh this new ride is gonna be awful. Not because of PatF but because we all know they're gonna cheap out on the redesign and the stupid masses and bent YouTubers are gonna call it the best thing Disney's ever done since sliced bread.

Disney could shut down the ride permanently, without replacement, and the fans online would applaud it for being a brave decision.

I have a lot of negative feelings about GE, but none are regarding the land feeling like a cheap knock-off. It's clearly elaborate and intricate and far from cheap. It's just the elaborate and intricate version of Star Wars that no one asked for.

I potentially wasn't clear. It's not that the land feels cheap, it's that it feels like a theme park wanted to make a Star Wars land but didn't have the IP rights. It feels like a knock off in that way. An off brand version of Star Wars. Which is due to the sequels setting. Everything just seems off a little bit and not quite Star Wars.

The setting is Star Wars similar, but not recognisable as Star Wars. The Storm Troopers kind of look right, but they're not right because they're the sequel designs. You see First Order banners and it looks like they didn't have the rights to use the Empire logo. There's a Mellenium Falcon ride, but no Han Solo. There wasn't even the music to make you feel like it was Star Wars.

I wish the absolute worst for Disney going forward.

Well...

You seem to have the power of the wish. Perhaps we can use it for good now?
