Oh, if it's going to be based on the unnecessary sequel, then eff this ride. That would be like building a Wizard of Oz ride but basing it on the awful Return to Oz flick instead of the original 1939 film. Man, Iger's hatred for classic Disney knows no bounds.

Yet another letdown from D23!
And pretty much a flop. Practically imperfect in every way!
Unfortunately, the lovely score from the original film will have no place with this crappy new attraction. Too bad.

A Return to Oz ride would be amazing!

Well, as long as it wasn't just a carousel.

Did you watch the sequel? I'm gonna guess no. If you didn't you missed out on one of the best scores one that has massive callbacks to the original Poppins. Returns was a love letter while also being a true Hollywood musical plucked straight out of the 60's. If you missed it over some weird arbitrary reason then what a shame for you.

It was not a flop. It made money, and then buckets on home video.

As much as I liked MPR, it didn't exactly make money in it's theatrical run. Within the margin of error, it broke even. However, that's better than the two thirds of Disney Studios films that lose money.

And yes, once you break even theatrically, all that after-market is very high margin profit. And with MPR on D+ and featured in Epcot, it will find its wider audience.

For anyone lukewarm to MPR... give it another go, it will grow on you. I only truly appreciated it after listening to the soundtrack afterwards.

So we're looking at a 2 year build at most? Has Disney ever recently built a worthwhile attraction in less than 3 years? That timeline, plus Disney's careful wording of attraction (the same they're using for the Moana walk-through), makes me think this will be a plussed M&G, a la Enchanted Tales. You walk in, meet Bert or Jack, they do something (spin a bowl, draw with chalk), and then you enter the cartoon world where you meet Mary. Maybe if we're lucky she can discipline some kids and teach manners to park goers ;)

So how smart is it for TDO to build a Poppins ride based on what even you admit was a mediocre/flop sequel performance at the box office?

I bought the CD soundtrack and can confirm that it grows a lot on you.

I guess they’re saving Imagination and Brazil for next year...

Talks fell through with Brazil (though that doesn't mean they're done for good). I've been told by one source, but unable to confirm, that a second South American government has been in preliminary talks with Disney, but that plans were not in place in time for D23. I'm not sure missing that mark has given the goal any more expedience, and I'm not confident that we're closer to a new pavillion than we were six months ago (except for the fact you're always closer to the future than you were one day ago).
