American Idol: Season 8!

Gotta give him his due, Adam gave his best performance BY A MILE tonight. No annoying screaming and a perfect song choice. I am in shock. Up until this point he was no better than Sanjaya in my mind, but this was fantastic tonight. Matt G and Adam were the best tonight.

I agree, this has to be the first time I REALLY liked him. Plus I loved the song he sang, I'd never heard it before so I'm hoping to look it up.

Anyways, here's my list:

Best:

Adam
Allison
Anoop
Danny
Matt

Just okay:

Kris

Worst:

Lil Rounds
Scott

Bottom 3 will probably be Matt (yikes, a step down from last week), Lil Rounds, and Scott with hopefully Lil Rounds going home.

Which Matt did you mean to be Chris?

I think Scott would have been much better just standing at the microphone without the guitar.

I think he should sing with his eyes closed more or sunglasses. Every time I've seen him sing, it doesn't look like he blinks. It freaks me out.

I just came across a very interesting compilation of some of Adam's pre-Idol performances on YouTube. After watching this video and some other stuff on the video creators website, I am now more convinced than ever that this "rocker" thing he has going on is an act. Adam is a Broadway boy through and through.

Who knows how he ended up neck deep in this rocker persona, but I didn't buy it from the start and now I know why.

Well in case you have ANY more doubt about that, check out the You Tube "Kiss and Tell" video.

Yeaaa...I didn't need to see that video to know that this guy is the farthest thing from a rocker. It amazes me how the American Idol bubble can make people forget these things.

I think it was pretty obvious from the beginning that his little act is very forced and fake. It's just some persona that he created.

He isn't genuine like past contestants (Michael Johns, David Cook, Brooke White, etc.)

Not genuine in the least. I am afraid not everyone realizes that though. Imagine the disappointment if he wins and then is unable to keep up the charade forever. After listening to some more of his pre-Idol stuff, I am quickly realizing that this "rocker" stuff isn't doing his voice any justice. Not only does he look absurd in these get-ups but his ballad voice is a lot better than what is being showcased. I am left wondering how hard it is for him to keep doing stuff week after week that is kind of far from his normal repertoire. I don't dispute that he is a born performer...just not the kind of performer that Idol wants him to be.

My comments on tonight:

1. Danny - Rendered "Stand By Me" almost unrecognizable. Switching a few notes up here and there is one thing, completely changing the melody is another. Awful. Worst of the night.

2. Kris - I suspect his audience (teen and tween girls) loved his performance.

3. Lil - Has no idea who she is. Will do something next week completely out of her comfort zone and look silly doing it. She'll squeak by this week, but she's out next week.

4. Anoop - Asleep. ZZZzzzzzzz.

5. Scott - Bottom three and deserves it.

6. Allison - An American Idol savant. Another inspired, confident performance, and she's a great singer. May just win this whole thing.

7. Matt - I'm not a crooner kind of guy so I couldn't really appreciate this performance. Probably appealed to his fans.

8. Adam - OK, I absolutely love the Gary Jules version of "Mad World". One of my favorite songs of all time. I can't believe I'm saying this, but Adam's interpretation was phenomenal. It differed from both the Tears for Fears and Gary Jules versions, but kept the right moodiness, and he put his own twist on it. This was probably the Idol performance of the year, on par with Jennifer Hudson's version of "Circle of Life", Carrie Underwood's "Crying", and David Cook's "Hello". I know he's a plant and already a professional performer. So, it's not really fair that he's in the competition. However, it was still an undeniably outstanding performance.

Bottom Three: Anoop, Scott, and Lil.
Not Going Home: Lil (they'll use the SAVE for her if she's the lowest vote getter).
Going Home: Anoop. Sorry, dawg.

I missed Adam's performance...(stupid DVR) but it sounds like he isn't going anywhere...guess I'll be YouTubing that one.

I'm one who really like Kris' performance and didn't see why they didn't. Even my DH said it was one of good performances. We both really liked it.

As for the bottom 3...I think it will be Scott, Lil and probably Anoop...even though I liked his performance, although Kris could be in there, since the judges didn't love it. Who should go home? Scott

I always set the PVR to record whatever is after Idol. I'm amazed the network tolerates that they can't time-manage at all. Even the most popular show on TV should at least try not to run over. Last night was only an hour because they're down to 8, they ran 8 minutes over their time - that's insane!

I kinda liked Kris, but the mosh-pit performances don't help the performers. They can't move around at all and often you can't see the instrument they're playing - a head sticking up out of the crowd singing isn't going to give any "stage presence". Matt had the same problem when he tried it.

Either Lil or Scott should go, I hope they're not stupid enough to 'save' Lil... She's not worthy. I think Adam, Danny and Allison are the only ones deserving of a save at this point and Danny's slipping.

I think Lil can sing but she has no talent in changing up songs and making them unique...I liked how Randy told her that she doesn't listen to what they tell her and she says that she does... I don't think so...

Bottom 3
Lil
Anoop (even though he was good it may hurt him that he was towards the beginning of the show)
Scott
