American Idol details plus concept art

Hey, this is one more reason to skip Hollywood Studios and spend more time at Universal. I hate American Idol so I have no desire to see this attraction. What a waste.

They really are switching the theme of this park--from the Hollywood of yesterday that never was all the way to current pop culture. At least we get something new.

Big mistake. Pop culture's shelf life, not much. Don't you love when Disney tries to be hip. :brick: And then when they don't replace the attractions that are out of date. :dazzle:

With additions like this they might as well stop adding stuff. Just let the park rot. It'll be better than adding cheap entertainment like this.

World class entertainment? Not at Walt Disney World. Try Disneyland instead.

This may sound like a cop out, but not every attraction appeals to every park goer. American Idol is a ridiculously popular television show, more people watch the finale of American Idol than saw any of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies on opening weekends. If you don't like American Idol for whatever reason than don't see the show. This is not the last thing that's going to be added to DHS, but I think it's another step in the right direction. It will most assuredly draw crowds, and we have no idea how the execution of the show will be.

I'm optimistic about the show, and even if I don't like it - I know that the name itself will make it popular. The greatest example of this for me is Star Tours - I'm not much for simulators, but I recognize it's place in the park. I've been on it once in my last 5 trips, and I don't think it's placement in the park is an abomination. I don't see the playhouse Disney shows, but I recognize they have their place in the park.

I do not normally post that often but this announcement makes me want to post.

This is the lamest idea I have ever heard and is the biggest cop out by Disney.

The idea of going to a Disney theme park is to experience things you would not normally experience and to escape reality. This show will offer nothing than what you can experience at home watching the show; at least Millionaire everyone could compete on every question. Even if you are the one singing, it's the same experience as singing karaoke or actually auditioning for American Idol.

This is a tarnish on Disney creativity that will not be wiped away soon.

Current pop culture..you say that as if it's a good thing.

I hope I'm not the only one wondering what this "pop cultural" world is coming to.

There was barely ANY complaining about the lack of show there. Once and while I heard a few "Hope they put something there"-type remarks. no real complaining.

Maybe this particular theater has not been complained about that much. However, general complaints about unused space around the parks is a common theme. I happen to agree that unused/underutilized space is a great place to start for Disney when making improvements, which is why I like this move.

I look at it the same way as Laugh Floor. Is the attraction for everybody? Not necessarily. Is it a better use for the space that more people will enjoy? Absolutely!

This is actually one addition that hurts the park by its presence IMHO. It doesn't fit the atmosphere of a Disney park...Universal maybe, but def. not Disney. In this instance at least the unused space wasn't detracting from the park's atmosphere.

I second that. This is very much a new low for Disney. Was this one of Rasulo's bright ideas. If it was that is just another reason to show him the door. I am gonna laugh when Guest Relations has to deal with upset guests who feel that they didn't get a fair shake from the audience. And who is going to waste their whole day at the park auditioning and performing. Well if enough suckers show up for the performances that means shorter lines for the rest of us.

Oh, Lord! It's gonna be like cruise Karaoke. Ok Hannah Montana, HSM, HSM, Hannah Montana.....:brick:

Or maybe not, Hopefully they can get a lot of different material. I don't know how I feel about this. Maybe it's just to get numbers, to get money for more stuff ala Muppets and NBC or possibly HorrorWood Studios, just a thought.

I hate having to complain about the new things being added to the parks, because it sounds like we are bashing anything new. But, I have a few importaint concerns regarding this attraction:

1. Crushed spirits.
If they are actually trying to make this show like American Idol, then they had better be prepared for the tears, the shouting, the anger, and the humiliation that not only comes with the show, but makes it what it is! American Idol thrives off of viewers that just want to laugh at the bad performers. And thats fine, when you are watching it in your own home. But when you are actually there, what kind of a reaction are we going to get from the audience? Or from the performers?

And if they don't want people to come to the show for this, then why are they hyping it as American Idol?

I would be excited to hear the good singers, and would love to cheer for anyone participating, but will it happen during every one of their shows? What if we get some hecklers in the audience?

2. Who is this show made for, the people participating, or the people watching? I'd almost liken this to the Dream Suities, a highly marketed attraction that only applies to a very small percentage of guests. I'd like to think that a 45 minute show would include plenty of entertainment from good singers, but what if they aren't that good? Won't it feel strange witnessing a huge critique of some poor guy's skills?

3. How are people going to take rejection? In front of a crowd of theme park guests no doubt? Millionaire was fun because it involved everyone, and the person playing didn't feel crushed after loosing. It was more like, "oh well!"

I don't want this attraction to fail. I want it to be good, and hope that my concerns are unneccessary. But when the concerns rise up so easily, I can't help but worry.

I think one of signal hardest things for me to do, was to tell someone "We really are considering someone else." OR "You're just not what their looking for." Even these "kind" words are harsh. Imagine some guy in the back row yelling "YOU S***!!" at some 17 year old girl. It's just harsh. You tell that crying girl, "Don't worry, we've taken care of the situation." It won't do. Words do hurt.

This lowers what Disney is. Disney is better than this. I agree show him the door, because this doesn't just hurt Walt's dream. This kills it. This is not a get away, this is showing the guest up close, what the real world thinks.

When you are at Disney World, you are at Disney World. This is a getaway. WDW was a home to me at some of the hardest points in my life and made me forget, albeit short moments, what the world is like sometimes.

Something like this lowers the standard which I came to love. In this signal attraction, I will not support Disney in it's inception, creation, and development. This is a mark deep into the skin of Disney. If they cancel this project, then great. Other than that, I will steer clear of DHS.

Because, like they say, if you don't like it, then stay away.

>Steve

P.S.: I'm sorry if I sound harsh, but this is not Disney.

I just logged on so I haven't read every post, but here's my concern. Having seen some of the truly odd and somewhat "off" people who audition for American Idol, what element will this new show attract to DHS?

I probably shouldn't state an opinion one way or another about this because I have no interest in this type of entertainment and seriously doubt I will attend a show.

AI Hate?

Criticism seems a bit over the top so far. This is definitely risky but could have a large upside if it works. If it fails it isn't the end of the world. DHS will have a "refreshed" (the new word for refurb) theater with some cool looking architecture and lighting.

Could some of the AI hate be coming from local talent fearing Disney finding new talent in all those many many auditions? Just a thought. I could be totally wrong.:lookaroun

You too could be "found" and be the next Hannah or star of HSM. Who knows?

It's great art, but I have to post what my mom just said...

"Why are we burning LMA in the background? Is a nuclear war going on?"

To which I added...

"No, it's the sky from 300."

I was toooootally just gonna say, way do we have a Mailbu brushfire/ post-apocalyptic sky in the background?
I can hear it already...."American Idol hits Disney's Hollywood Studios and the sky is scorched!"
