American Idol details plus concept art

FYI... Since the winner each day gets an audition at idol... They would have an age limit to start with... maybe 18 years old or 16 years old through a certain age limit since idol has a age limit for auditioning.

Still... how would they stop us from cheering the bad singers ;)
-how long untill we get a bunch of people voting for the worst just like in real life-

From what I can gather, 16 is the youngest. Until you're twenty though, you're a teen. If you're too old though, then that's not good. I see someone professional going to win just to get their kid a free ticket to an audition to AI... Disney didn't just drop the ball... they dropped it, kicked it, then popped it.

P.S.: I'm hoping it tanks in the first year of operation.

I guess you're a "real" Disney fan then.

I may not think it has longetivity, but I surely hope it succeeds...maybe that's just me.

this is one of the worst ideas Disney has ever had. It is going to be popular for about 6 months then just die. It is going to be exactly like Who wants to be a millionaire.

Boy, I never would have guessed that Disney could come up with an idea for the Studios park that was worse than the Goosebumbs Horrorland Funhouse. This is alreadly a dated property. Even the current issue of Rolling Stone is saying that even though American Idol is the top rated show on television, it is alreadly slipping in ratings and will not be able to regain its momentum. The building looks like it belongs more in Tomorrowland than in the 1930s Hollywood area that its going into. And as another poster pointed out whats going to happen to the Academy of Television Arts and Science plaza. Even though that area is small it is interesting and one of the few things that still relate to actual Studio production in the park.

I am not a big American Idol fan, in fact I think it is nothing more than glorified karaoke. However, I do think that having something, or anything for that matter, in that theater is better than having nothing at all. While I may not like American Idol, I realize that there are millions of people who do like it. Even if American Idol were to go off the air, I still think this attraction would be able to survive with only a name change. Granted, I would like to see this themed more toward Disney, maybe if they limited the song selection to only Disney songs (and I like the suggestion of having the characters doing the judging). Unlike many people here, I refuse to judge or condemn an attraction before I see it, let alone before it opens.

It's not that I have a problem with length in interest. It's I hate seeing peoples magical days get destroyed. When I was on the front lines (attractions), I always tried to do anything I could to make it extra special for everyone. It's the little touches. I don't think a smile and a Fastpass makes up for someone saying "You Sucked" (in whatever round about way) to someone who was hoping that would be their future. I saw it alot in Disney Auditions. And it killed me when they'd shoot performers down. It's heartbreaking for those few, but imagine several thousand a day, getting blown off, and then having the rest of their day go down.

It's no fun being told you suck, but when they cause you to stand up and have several hundred or so people say it... That's a way to not only cause emotional problems, but maybe even more serious ones. Disney should always be about having fun, making the most out of a day. Not compete and lose, compete and lose, compete and lose "Thanks for coming to the place "Where Dreams Come True!"

The building is gorgeous! or it could just be the concept art, either way it's exciting. What a nice breath of fresh air. Some people will be negative no matter what. It doesn't really matter, the attraction is being built. So who cares. :)

I don't know if I like this or not... I guess this is just one of those things you have to see how it turns out before really judging it, because I really have no clue what it will exactly be like even from the inscription I read.

But I do agree that the building is very nice looking.

I agree with what most are saying. I have mixed feeling about this though. It really doesnt seem right imo. Like someone else said, they own abc, they have many abc shows they could have chosen from. They could have brought back superstar television(never got to see it) and updated it with shows that are in now.

With the previous posts I see your points exactly. If you pick audience members as judges most of them will probably be cruel just to be cruel. I know I wouldnt be a saint if I were picked and someone couldnt sing. That part of it just seems like its a guaranteed failure. I can see wanting an interactive element to it, but I just dont think that would work.

It probably would have been better to do something (I cant believe Im saying this) with hannah montanah or HSM. Having some kind of interactive show with that. Picking random kids or whatever to play the HSM parts or something, Im pretty sure you could find more talent at a theme park than disney did when they cast for HSM itself.

Wait a minuite, they pick people from the audience to be judges?! I agree, that's a TERRIBLE idea. They'll almost always try to act like Simon.

You guys do realize that just the name American Idol will get people in the gates right? Personally, this attraction idea doesn't interest me that much at all (and I'm a fan of the show) and I don't think the attraction will last that long, but I think it will get people in the park. And it might turn out to be a hit attraction that does last 7 or 8 years, who knows.

I think everyone is missing the big picture.. it's about money not creativity.
A cheap remodel of a existing theater and a lot of name recoginition so that makes marketing easy. And does Disney have to provide the talent? No, the guests do.

Remember what is going on in Hollywood? A writer's strike. So they just show reality shows. Not that much overhead. Next door will be "Dancing with the Stars" (Guests)"?

As both a vocalist and an American Idol fan I'm very excited about this. Unlike the naysayers I can totally see this attraction having a long life. Even without the American Idol brand this attraction would have a strong built in appeal in my opinion. With the massive success of Idol and the popularity of karaoke it is obvious that people love the opportunity to make a fool of themselves in front of a crowd.

Now, if I can just get my nerve up...
