Am I the only one that thinks the Bippidy Boppidy Boutique is sort of creepy?

What about little boys who paint their faces to look like a pirate skeleton on halloween? Or little girls painting their faces green for a witch costume? I just don't see the difference between that and BBB. BBB is playing make believe for a day, just like halloween. It is not intentionally putting makeup on a little girl to make her more attractive or make her look older, like when you do it for it for beauty pageants. !

I think that captures the issue for me.
Never had to worry about it with my daughter...it was all we could do to get her in a dress periodically....

Come to think of it my wife has her (once every three week) appt. at her BBB for three hours this afternoon at a cost in par with Disney....
Now THAT I find rather scary! :lookaroun :zipit:

I can understand what everyone is saying about just doing it once for fun, but I just can't imagine parading my child around in public like that. If she wants to mess around and put on some makeup just to goof off, I'd prefer she do it at home. There's too many pervs out there, and the last thing I want is for my 6 year old to look "hot".

You have to be honest, they don't come out of there looking like princesses...they come out looking like pageant girls.

 Laura, I am the opposite- I won't do the recital makeup.

I am getting nervous now- I have not seen the full effect in person, but we do have plans to visit the BBB over in DL. Is the makeup really that overdone? I guess I was thinking more of the hair (my daughter had hers done when she was a flower girl and LOVED it) and the overall experience of being pampered. Maybe I'll request they go a little easy on the makeup. I had imagined it was more like her play goop which aside from the glitter really doesn't show up very much at all.

One other note to everyone in general, please don't drag this into anything that is against the forum rules. Some of the comments are already a little over the line. Thanks.

It is a "costume", and in my opinion it is no different than any other kind of face makeup for costumes.
My son is going to be doing the Pirates League at WDW while my daughter does BBB, and he has already chosen the full pirate face makeup that looks like a skeleton. He will be playing "make believe" by wearing his pirate makeup that day, while my daughter will be playing "make believe" by wearing her princess makeup that day. They will both have a ton of fun, and I am quite certain no harm will come to either one of them for wearing makeup for a day!

I don't see desperate girls looking for a one night stand at a bar in skeleton paint or looking like the wicked witch of the west. I do see them with tons of make up, gloss, glitter, and assorted other crap.

And again, as I said before, there's a difference between dress up and this. I'm not saying eating pizza is bad, just maybe you shouldn't eat a whole pie in one sitting...

Don't worry...I've never personally seen one that I think was over done. I'm not saying it doesn't happen...it obviously does because others have seen it. But most of the makeup I've seen has been little to none. I am quite certain the Fairy Godmothers in Training will do whatever you request as far as the makeup goes.

I don't find the dressing up or make up all that creepy... what I do find creepy (or rather ugly) is the hideous hair piece they put on all those adorable little girls. I think the little girls who have their hair up in a bun with pixie dust and a small rhinestone Mickey barette look soooo much cuter and less ridiculous than the ones who have the tacky stringy hairpiece attached to their head as well.

We don't have kids but if/when we do ever have a daughter and she wants to be a princess for a day, I think it would not only be more cost effective to buy the dress and pixie dust and hair pin ahead of time and do it ourselves, but it would also be easier to control the amount of make up (which I agree is a bit much sometimes). It wouldn't be too difficult to get up one morning and create a mini BBB in the resort room. Paint the nails, do the hair, sparkle on some glitter and surprise her with the Belle dress she didn't know was in the suitcase all along.

To me, it's just little girls playing an expensive game of dress-up. It wouldn't freak me out unless I saw a grown man doing it.

I wish BBB was around when my daughter was little. She is 13 now and thinks she is too old for it.

She also was done up for her dance recital. The make up was heavy but I think she looked so pretty, but I took her home and promptly washed it off. She was allowed to play with make up at home. She liked it "scary". I now let her wear mascara and a little lip gloss to school. Some of her friends look like they put their make up on with a putty spatula. I don't know how parents can let their kids go out like that. Even my kid thinks they look like clowns. When she was about 5 someone suggested to a pagent that my kid be in it. Gave them out address and everything. They sent me paperwork to enter her and we said no way. I don't have anything against older girls doing them when they are old enough to want to do them. I do watch Toddlers and Tiaras and some of those kids don't want to be there. And the money they spend, dang!!

I may sound a little biased here since I'm marrying one of the FGITs (fairy godmother in training), but I don't find the boutique creepy at all. It's one of the few places at Disney where I can say 100% that they make dreams come true. Not a day goes by that I don't hear about some type of good coming out of that place. I've heard stories of autistic children that didn't start speaking until they went there, a little girl who lost all of her hair due to chemo who left there feeling beautiful for the first time in a long time, teenage girls who gave up being a princess but realized you're never too old to live out a fantasy, or families that are brought together to feel like royalty because they still believe in fairy tales.

Not creepy just another Disney rip off, get yer wadd out.

Second this emotion and then some. To me, the BBB - which, let's face it, is a cash grab in an already endless money pit (though one dear to my heart :) ) - is something that indoctrinates young girls to the concept of the beauty parlor. And while there are hair stylists and makeup stylists who see their job as a somewhat noble cause, and will work with the customer to make them up how they wanted to be made up, help the customer achieve a goal, many stylists just take over because many customers surrender: "I don't know what I want, I trust you." As a result, the BBB, like parlors in general, reinforces the idea that "you're not at your prettiest until a paid professional TELLS you you're at your prettiest." Which only sets them up to want to spend more money on parlors at home, to be made up and fussed over and pay a premium for it. Guys do it, too, only they call it "lap dances."

I dearly hope my li'l Slapperina will want no part of it while in a place filled with fun attractions, yummy food, and wonderful entertainment.

I don't mind the idea behind the BBB, I just don't like the stepford-esque execution of it. I think they could go a little softer on the make-up and hair and accentuate the natural beauty.

Personally I'm hoping my little princess would rather get the Empress Package at the pirate league. We let her wear her princess dress to the castle every year, without the make-up:).

I used to feel that way. But then I remembered how much fun I used to have playing dress-up, especially at my friends' houses where their moms gave them makeup to play with (my mom didn't wear any). So, I let her wear a little nail polish from time to time, but then you turn around and she's running through the house with an eye patch and a pirate sword. It's all make believe. In real life, which would be worse- probably the pirate

I agree with you on the pageant thing but there is a big difference between a little childish glitter and trying to make a preschooler look and walk like an adult.

My little girl is currently in my lap and has no idea what I am typing, but does request that I include the little guy with the fire. So, disclaimer: this emoticon is in no way an expression of my current mood :fork:

As a mother of two girls....... are'nt they just great!!! (yes there was a hint of sarcastism there!) And yes have done the BBB from the whole shabang to the simple hair and makeup.......(definate money maker).......It does gets weird when you see the moms do the BBB... I have seen it.....yeah... not so cute!!!

I really just find it to be WAY over the top. Yeah. most little girls like to dress up like princesses. Fine. But seriously, how much money is BBB? 'Spoiled' is always the word that comes to my mind when I walk past that place...

Then again, that opinion is coming from a girl who was a total tomboy as a kid. Maybe someone who was a princessy sort of kid would feel differently. I just cannot imagine spending all that money on some glitter and nail polish.

I'm tempted to comment on how much money those little girls might grow up to spend on fake tanner and manicures...but I'll resist, I know that's generalizing.

Well, you are not really resisting since you did make the comment...lol.
For the record, I was as girly girl as you can get as a child, and always dressed up, played with makeup, etc.. and spent many a halloween looking exactly like the girls from BBB.....and have not spent a dime on fake tanner in my entire life! Although I have had a few manicures in my lifetime...but the last one I had was 11 years ago for my wedding. But I do treat myself to monthly pedicures because I love them. :)

You can tell them to go light on the make up! I did... 1) I didn't want my three year old being caked with make up and 2) she has sensitive skin. I don't think it was too much at all. Of course, she doesn't wear make up at home (not even lip gloss) but this was a treat! It was wonderful and magical for both of us!

This is the closest picture I have of her face...

Yeah I kinda thought that as I was typing it, guess I just felt the need to put a little disclaimer because I know that's not entirely true. Just that in my group of friends, the ones whose parents encouraged them to play with mom's makeup and all that are now the ones that go tanning multiple times a week, so that's what comes to my mind. But I know that is definitely not always the case! It's just that Disney is so expensive, and I cannot imagine spending $180 for my daughter to play dress-up, I guess it's the cost that makes it seem crazy to me.

Most people get the Coach or Crown package, which are $50 and $55. I don't think that is bad at all. The higher priced package is the one with the dress and photo package...princess dresses at WDW are insanely expensive. You can get them at Target or Wal Mart for usually around $20.
