That would work perfect for TL and EPCOT.:D

I know right? Perhaps I'm a bit biased in that regard, but I think a film over the natural wonders of the earth would be more spectacular than over Tiananmen Square or Rome. Its not that that wouldn't be great, I just thing natural wonders that most of us will probably never be able to see would make for a much more interesting film.

Well, wouldn't the motions of the seats have to be changed, not to mention the scents? But you're right, as far as refurbs go, the downtime for this sort of attraction, once the filmis ready and on site, is maybe a week or so. :)

Yea but for general maintenance and motion adjustment I couldnt see it being closed for more than a week.

God bless the "Ignore" button.
Well, it DOES make sense in the fact that the ride should be about more than California, but I don't see why this is a high priority thing...
If it does happen, though, I hope they don't just scrap Goldsmith's score. It was one of the last scores he wrote before he died, and he really loved that ride...

Agreed. I wouldn't mind if they threw a few Historic Landmarks in though.

You could do all sorts of things with a Soarin' movie.
All of nature's wonders are available as subjects.
You could even soar into a T-Rex's mouth and come out its butt.
Imagination knows no ends for such an attraction.

UGH!:brick::lol: It's frustrating in two ways.:lol:
  1. We all want a new attraction
  2. I keep hearing new things.

*waits and see's*:lol::lookaroun

I agree. On one hand, Cockrell has been getting rave reviews from my friends over in Epcot, but I also know all too well TDO's cheapness, and willingness to wait for someone else to foot the bill(Tokyo) before going through with this.

Exactly. I'm liking Cockrell, so far, too. He just needs to do some cleaning, and I will be sold...:lookaroun:lol:

Depends I guess on how much they want to put into it and all. certainly a month should be the max time it would take...

Oh no, I'm not suggesting there be NO landmarks or anything. Thats why Machu Picchu and the Pyramids work so well. But I just dont want a film where its, "Oh, here we are in Tokyo... Oh, now we're in London... Its Paris now!" Not to say there can't be a few shots of major landmarks, but I'd like some unknown ones as well. :)

I wouldnt call those major problems when you compare it to the current state of WOL, UOE, and JII. I would much rather have Disney fix those problems first.

To quote me

Major (OK semi-major) problems

And I would put it up there in the same class of problems. Soarin' is about the feeling of flight, the suspension of belief that you are in a ride mechanisim, and that you are NOT watching a film. When you see quite noticeable defects in the film, it kills that suspension of belief.

When I am on JII for example, I KNOW I am on a ride, and I don't expect to feel otherwise. If I see some chipped paint it does not make me all of a sudden feel like I am no longer in the Imagination Institute.

I could see it being done in off hours.

I am assuming that the ride motion is computer controlled. It's a series of movements synched to the film.

Lets say you have a 5 minute film, and you want to put a new scene from 2:00 to 2:30

You know the position of the ride at 2:00 and you know it at 2:30

You program a sequence to start and end in those positions. You run it on a disktop simulator.

At night you go in and run the script on the ride mechanisim to test it, putting back the normal show programming for park opening.

Once its all tested and ready to go, you swap out the old 30 seconds and insert the new.

I look forward to the new Soarin' movie.
The old one was is fun but it always seems strange to be in WDW in Florida but go flying over California, particularly the ending at Disneyland.

:king:

I've always thought it was odd to have a ride about California in Florida. It's not like Florida doesn't have lots of sights to use. Imagine having a gator jumping out of the Everglades, or flying behind an air boat as it's going over a swamp. Much more logical than scenes from California. Disney had to realize that after the new ride thrill had passed that people would start questioning why they used the same footage as the DL Soarin' and didn't have something specific to Florida. One poster had the idea of having different movies. To me that's the best idea so far, kind of like how you never know what ride you're going to get on ToT, Soarin'-What will you Explore?

It was California because it was a ride WDW got during Disneyland's 50th anniversary celebration, or whatever the heck it was called. And please, a ride about Florida would be pretty lame.

Yea, imagine flying over all of those retirement homes and having waves of old people swing canes at you! And for an added effect they could fly over Miami and glide through a drug war.:hammer:

This sounds great. Wouldn't it be ideal though if they shot for two different films while they are in these countries? So then while filming the pyramids, they could also get shots of the Nile. Or while in India, the could also get footage of the Himalayas. Or while filming Tokyo, they could get shots soaring over Mt Fuji. Because, while the concept described by the OP and the Disney and More blog sounds wonderful, it sure would be nice if "The Land" film was unique to the pavilion with emphasis on the earth's natural wonders.

Sweet idea, jt04. Like many have discussed with things like ST2.0, multiple films for one ride keeps the turnstiles turning. Hopefully (is that not the most used word on these boards?) Disney is looking into incorporating this into it's future rehabs.

Soarin' Over the World would be nice and fit well at Epcot, but they better be able to theme it well to California Adventure.
Do all Disney Resorts need the same attractions?
