AK Kali River accident 5/29

Can someone describe these evac platforms? I'm not really following how the work and what/where they are located. Thanks!

Good to know everyone is ok, but the "red with blood" comment? It would take a LOT more than 6 people to turn that much water red.

Not good news at all. First teens spitting on guests and now a bridge collapsed and hurt people, this is sad. So sorry to hear that news.:(

What the heck does one have to do with another?

They are nothing alike, and shouldn't be grouped together.

One is a simple malfunction, at least it sounds like, and the other is a group of unruly people that are not related to TWDC or WDW in any way.

thanks for the information everyone! I just heard from my friends in the park, and they didn't know anything about it. I'm happy they weren't involved. I hope everyone is okay, and that the news exaggerated some of the things that were said. Hopefully everything is minor!

The return of W. R. Hearst.

Could the construction equipment mentioned in the initial reports be a misidentification of the logging truck and other theming inherent to the attraction itself prior to the drop?...

I just got off the phone with one of my friends that work at Kali and thank god she wasn't the one. She had the day off and she told me that I've meet the person who got hurt that works there.

That's exactly what I thought of. There's no way they would have guests travelling under real construction equipment.

Bah! lol... It's leading to that... :lookaroun

< / tongue-in-cheek conspiracy theory >

....3 years from now....

"we regret to inform the people of this country, that inspectors have found no WMD's at what was once the Happiest place on Earth...intial intellignce reports state that Disney's Animal Kingdom was actually a safe haven of the once infoumous terrorist organization WDWMagic.com. This group of individuals claimed to have stolen plans to Walt Disney's cryogenic facilities and were planning a dirty bomb of sorts in order to preserve Animal Kingdom Lodge in it's current state of operation. Before any refurbs, upgrades, or DVC inclusion and monorail expansion could have been included..."

...now back to our regulary scheduled thread...

Accidents happen, big guy. I'm sorry that you aren't old enough to understand that. This isn't the first accident to happen on Disney property, and it won't be the last.

They haven't had 'a lot of bad press' at all. You read a Disney site and you think thats representative of the world at large? Thats pretty narrowminded. The story about the teens and the stun gun and the attack on the officer was barely carried at all on any national news services.

This story was, but as its coming out that it was a lot less than originally thought, its quickly fading away.

If you seriously think that either of these stories are going to adversely affect TWDC, you are very mistaken. How many people, besides fans, remember (or even originally heard about) the death on DLR's Big Thunder Mountain? The answer is VERY few. That was not even four years ago. A *death* as opposed to minor injuries in this case.

I'm sure you'll want an example.

Superman: Ride of Steel at Six Flags New England had an accident that injured more than 22 people in 2001. One train hit another, sending 22 people to the hospital with minor injuries. Had you ever heard of this? Possibly, but not likely. Do you remember it? No. But its the same kind of situation, and if you somehow think that a minor incident like the one that happened at KRR today is going to hurt Disney in any major way, well, you're completely wrong.
For that matter, how many of these have you heard of: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Incidents_at_Six_Flags_parks
or even these: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Incidents_at_Disney_parks

You can't judge anything by what you see on a fansite. It will always be blown out of proportion, in one way or another. Alarmism isn't good.
Don't forget, people get injured in some form on property every single day. Both guests and cast. Some times its Disney's fault, some times its not. If the evac platform wasn't secured, thats Disney's fault, and they will take care of medical costs and other things for the people injured, as well as provide some sort of compensation. But its not suddenly going to cause attendance to drop, or people not to go to a Disney park because there was an accident.

And this doesn't even take into account that the accident didn't actually occur on the attraction.

You have gone way out of line. This is no place or time to be arguing with your fellow wdwmagic friends.

...

You make it sound like the United States was just bombed. This incident isn't a tragedy, it isn't a terrorist attack, it isn't a natural disaster.

What basically happened is a ramp slipped, and people fell down. Stop trying to over sensationalize what happened into something that its not. Not everything is a huge story. Does what happened suck for the people involved? Sure. But they have things like sprained ankles and cuts and bruises. Not severed limbs and brain damage. This isn't one of those times were you need to pray for the people involved. There are much more important things going on then worrying about 6 minor injuries at Animal Kingdom.

I'm not saying not to discuss it, thats fine, and lets continue to do so. But lets take it at what it is, and not try to turn it into something worse than what happened.

If you guys want to continue can you please take it to PM?

WDW is a big place and people get hurt everyday, sometimes we hear about it and other times not. Since people had to be transported to the hospital it made the news. While the reports say minor injuries they still needed to be checked out. As for the river running red with blood...if anybody had a head wound they bleed profusely because the vessels are close to the surface.

Things like this happen everyday at parks around the country (and world), but unless you are local you just don't hear about it. WDW is a very big presence in Orlando and so anything there is considered "newsworthy".
