I just got this from WESH. It sounds like the earlier statement was a little over the top:
Six people were hurt Tuesday morning while riding an attraction at Disney's Animal Kingdom.

It happened around 10:30 a.m. on the Kali River Rapids ride, WESH 2 News reported.

Authorities said all of the injuries were minor.

Officials with the Reedy Creek Fire Department said it's not known if the ride flipped or listed severely.

Five of the victims were transported to Florida Hospital-Celebration Health and one was transported to Dr. Phillips Hospital.

Do you expect us to believe that a news reporting agency embellished on the facts of a story concerning an injury at Disney? That never happens.

5 injured on Animal Kingdom ride at Disney

Beth Kassab | Sentinel Staff Writer STORY GALLERY

Five Walt Disney World guests and an employee were transported to the hospital Tuesday morning after the Kali River Rapids ride at Animal Kingdom was evacuated.

One of the rides' sensors caused the flumes to stop as they were traveling up a steep incline, prompting an evacuation about 10:20 a.m., said Bo Jones, deputy fire chief of the Reedy Creek Improvement District.

A platform designed to help transfer guests from the ride to the exit stairs malfunctioned during the evacuation.

One Disney employee may have suffered a bone fracture and the five guests suffered other minor injuries such as bruises and neck and back pain, Jones said.

The injured people included three teenagers, one 21-year-old and two people in their 40s.

Disney spokeswoman Kim Prunty said the reason the ride stopped is being investigated along with how the evacuation platform malfunctioned.

Kali River Rapids remains closed for now, she said.

"Our primary concern is for those who are impacted by the incident," Prunty said. "We're trying to determine what happened."

So, apparently something caused the ride to stop and during evacuation, the evac platform/bridge collapsed or broke, causing the injuries...

Regarding the earlier WDWINFO reports, if people are just posting what they heard, then it is the news organizations to blame for the outlandish comments (the river ran with blood and stuff)... most news now adays is sensationalized and exaggerated... when then you add Disney to the equation, everything is increased....

But I can see where the WDWinfo post came from if it was an evac. platform it probably looked like construction equipment and thats where people got it from.

What probably happened was the evacuation platform was not securely locked into place. When alot of guests were on it it started to slide downhill.

Not good news at all. First teens spitting on guests and now a bridge collapsed and hurt people, this is sad. So sorry to hear that news.:(

sometimes things need sensationalization and exaggeration in order to get your point across to some people...not that I condone it but I do realize how it can be effective to a degree...also it's a good selling point in order to keep you tuned. That's what happens when the almighty dollar dictates our life.

Does anyone else think it was improper..

For that other Disney "news and reports" site to put up an article under "Breaking News" that report the water red with blood? Man, how about waiting 15 minutes until real reports came in. Instead, they go for sensation and probably terrified someone who knew people in the park today.

From the Orlando Sentinel article, it appears that the most seriously injured (possible fracture) individual of the five is a Disney employee, and that the guests received minor strains etc. While it certainly isn't a good thing for anyone to get injured at Disney, the fact that the employee is most seriously injured is fortunate for Disney - workers' compensation laws prevent employees from suing their employers for work-related injuries (in all but a very small handful of instances, likely not present here), so the negative media/PR issues that typically haunt Disney after one of these events will be minimal.

It looks like the blood comment was a quote from an eyewitness, not an editorial description. If someone who was there says there was blood in the water, then why can't that be reported?

Yeah that line is completely uncalled for....

Sounds like Rick Sanchez, and the way he reports...(CNN Sunday nights, used to be local here in Miami WSVN 7 until he ran over a little girl on a bike and then fled the scence even though it should have been a DUI the cop let him go. Go figure?)

He/she wont need to worry, when a cast member gets hurt that bad they are taken care of, not as well as the guests with "minor injuries" but Disney will still make it up to the cast member more then any other corporation would.

To note,I beleive the evac platforms at Kali are relatively new-ish. Many of the permits filed in the past few months involved Kali devices to detect overturned rafts and I think there was mention of such evac platforms being installed or redone.

If anyone wants to dig through the records and see.. go for it ;)
