AI: Season 6

Doesn't that (at least potentially) say more about the people who bothered to show up for the cameras than about her actual universe of support?

(Just to reiterate, I SERIOUSLY don't care at this point, but that reasoning jumped out at me a bit.)

Again, at WestGate, where she made her big appearance, these thousands of people stood for hours in the blistering sun, temps over 100 degrees, no shade. No thank you. I stayed home

The news helicopters even followed her car up and down the streets of Phoenix/Glendale... it was like a really boring episode of COPS :dazzle:

Wow, total shocker. Didn't see this coming at all.
Best thing that could have happened. I didn't think it would happen in a million years, but this is the best possible senario.

Now we get two totally different styles in the final, instead of two very similar singers. And now Melinda can pursue the Contemp Christian/Gospel genre that I really think she wants to/needs to go for. If she had made it to the final there would have been more pressure to put out typical pop music, and there's no doubt that Jordin and Blake can do "pop" music better than Melinda. She needs to do something with more soul to be successful.

Again, I think everyone wins tonight
Great post! I think it's better to be voted off instead of win the whole thing. The contract that the winners are put under is not the greatest. When they are on their own, they can pursue whatever they want.

Melinda has a great future ahead of her!
It's a singing competition, not a beat boxing competition. Jordin should win...if nothing else for her performance of Martina McBride's "Broken Wing".

Taylor Hicks > Blake the Beat Boxer
Daughtry, Underwood, & Clarkson > Everyone
Agreed 100%! In our local newspaper, the writers ranked the 10 best idols. Number one was Kelly, two was Chris, and three was Carrie.

I totally agree with this, as well.
Melinda will be successful without winning and her exit allows for a more interesting finale, I think. Blake might not appeal to everyone, but he definitely has a unique style. Jordin has gotten consistently better week after week. Both of them bring the element of youth back into the competition, and the two very different performers should make for a good finale. I'm looking forward to it and it doesn't really matter to me which one wins. . .both are worthy.

At least McPhee put out a really good album. If they had marketed it AT ALL (the video came out weeks after the album release), I think it would have been a hit record. Once I got over the surprise of the slight urban tone of the album, it has become one of my favorites from the past year or so. And I'm not really a big pop music fan either to be honest.

There were a couple of things about Kat that I rather enjoyed. . .

Now that Melinda is out of the running I will not watch next week. She was the only one worth winning IMHO. It will be so boring that i might end up :snore:

I will also miss Melinda greatly, but Jordin did have a few songs that really allowed her to shine - especially when she chose the song. So I'll watch the finale, and hope to see some of that Jordin Sparkle again. And who knows, maybe in a week Blake can learn to pronounce consonants and sing on key.

I'll really miss Melinda next week too. However, I am happy for her. If she had won, American Idol would have owned her for awhile. This way she is free to do her own thing after the tour.

It's still not right though, she was the best. Oh well!!

A bad electrical storm (tornado?) knocked out power to a huge section of Connecticut at 5pm yesterday. I just got it back, 20 hours later. I never saw the results show and didn't know who was eliminated until this morning. I'm tired and in a bad mood after cutting up two trees that fell across the driveway....damit!

I'm not surprised by the outcome. The best singer doesn't always win this competition because it's a voting contest, not a singing contest.

I got the impression that the judges wanted Melinda to win and I think their comments hurt her in the long run. What would inspire Jordin and Blake fans to vote more feverishly than a comment by Simon saying that Melinda won round one? They constantly referred to Melinda as a 'pro' and I think it may have turned some people off. If they were trying to encourage people to vote for her, it had the reverse effect.

I like both of the young people left in the competition and wish them well. Jordin was my pick from the day I first saw her in the initial tryouts. But Blake is a total surprise to me. No matter who wins, I'll wake up the next day and be none the better for it.

Worst...finale...ever...

It's so frickin' obvious that they are setting up Jordin for the win. How booooring! I thought they said they weren't doing any more cheesy ballads for the finale song and here we go again. Pathetic....

I still think it's anyone's game. The last song was Jordin's, but I think it was a pretty even night overall. I really like both of the finalists and I'll be happy for whoever wins.

My whole family stopped caring after Melinda was booted, it was already pretty dull without Sanjaya. Tonight, we could care less. I didn't even watch.

So the winning song from the songwriter contest is sappy, crappy, and made-to-order for Jordin. I guess that's to be expected. If you were to draw a Venn diagram of AI music and my musical tastes, the intersection would (at least for tonight) be limited to Blake's "You Give Love a Bad Name". This matches last year's total of one (Kat's "Black Horse & the Cherry Tree").

The final made me realize how good it was for Chris to lose. He didn't have to release a record like Blake will IF he wins.

Actually Blake will be signed to the same record label that will sign Jordan if she wins. Oh and Chris D. is on that very same label...

I thought Blake deliberately tried to tank it tonight. His vocals were off key for at least one stretch in every song he did. He did that jumping around mid-song in the last song that looked ridiculous [and out or character for "performer" Blake]. Either he just didn't make the effort [which I doubt] or he wants Jordin to win.

There's no question in my mind that Jordin was flawless in every aspect of her performance with the exception of the two little "choked up" voice cracks at the end of the last song that couldn't have been orchestrated [choreographed?] better if it was intentional :lookaroun

Of course, who knows how American will vote...
