What does it say about this thing that losing can be legitimately made out as a better prospect than winning?

Only for certain people. If you want to sing pop/soft rock/R&B/country music, winning is to your advantage big time. If you're going for a more adult audience or a more diverse style, then I don't think it is to your advantage. Daughtry proves that. He would have been worse off if he had won. But people like Clarkson and Underwood are world wide stars because they won, I don't know if they would have had the same success if they hadn't at least made the final two.

I could be completely wrong, but that's how I see it.

At least McPhee put out a really good album. If they had marketed it AT ALL (the video came out weeks after the album release), I think it would have been a hit record. Once I got over the surprise of the slight urban tone of the album, it has become one of my favorites from the past year or so. And I'm not really a big pop music fan either to be honest.

When I saw Elliott perform tonight I was reminded that he really did have the best singing voice in last year's top 10. And I thought, "this may be what's going to happen to Melinda." And sure enough, it was. So once again we have the guy with the weird vocal tics and the pretty girl with the nice voice in the final two. Difference is that Blake is not nearly the showman Taylor is, and Jordin is a much stronger vocalist than Kat. Jordin should win in this matchup. At least I hope so.

As for Melinda's career, I see her performing in concert halls with symphony backups, and doing top night clubs in New York. Sort of a female Michael Feinstein, or a younger version of Lena Horne or Bernadette Peters, a more soulful Judy Collins. She is in her element with standards. She does not belong in top 40, although like Bette Midler, Judy Collins and Melissa Manchester she might sneak a hit in every now and then - especially if she gets the right movie theme to record. Her radio niche is adult contemporary or easy listening. She may not shine at the top of the pop charts like Kelly Clarkson or Carrie Underwood, but she'll have a solid career that will outlast all of them, like the career Linda Ronstadt has settled into after she moved on from top 40. And I'll buy every CD she records.

I think Blake may not be the showman Taylor was. Taylor was a larger-than-life guy. Overall, Blake wins hands-down. But it's a toss up and up to personal taste as to who can grab an audience's attention better.

Blake is probably as entertaining as Taylor and Kat is probably as good a singer as Jordin. The difference is that Blake is prettier than Taylor and Kat is prettier than Jordin. I'll pick Blake.

The show definitely wants Jordin to win, as she has been overpraised by the judges since the final 24.

UNFORTUNATELY, the fake Jordin Sparks is going to win this one. Producers have been pushing her for the past few weeks. Coincidence that she was front and center on TV Guide this week making the other two Idols look like backup singers? If you have two girls and a guy, why not put the guy in the middle for balance? Nope. Last year's cover had two guys and a girl and McPhee was in the middle. Season one, two girls and a guy, guy is in the middle. So this year they switch it up? Hardly experimenting. It was done with the sole purpose of making Jordin the Idol.

On Jay Leno, when all three Idols were interviewed as a group, Jordin got to sit right next to Jay giving her more screen time, and allowing her to answer more questions as well as be asked more questions than the other Idols. Coincidence? I call it careful planning.

American Idol likes Jordin because of her young bubbly attitude (even if it is fake). If you watched Jordin's Home-Sweet-Home package tonight, Jordin had a huge crowd of... High Schoolers? Who were probably only there to be on TV, and because it was taped during school. The other Idol contestants had genuine fans and moments with their parents. Where were Jordin's parents? Does her father not show emotion?

It was particularly heart warming for both Melinda and Blake to give their audience a lot of love. Jordin just smiles and says "Thank you" like some politician (Republican :hurl: ) where as Blake says, "Seattle! We're proving Simon wrong!" involving all his fans, saying "You guys rock!" while he hangs out of the window of his car high-fiving them. Jordin likes the attention on her, where as Blake gives back to his fans.

So in conclusion, Jordin will win because of careful planning. She's escaped her major competition, Melinda, and will easily trump Blake because of cunning tactics by American Idol. They paired up Melinda and Blake in the end so that when Melinda was kicked off, it was as if Blake was "stealing her spot in the finals." This will anger Melinda fans now because Melinda deserves to be in "his spot." Therefore, those votes go to the impressionable puppet 17 y/o fake smiling beauty queen who thinks it is the Government's choice to decide whether or not women should be able to have freedom of choice (but that's another thread and another topic.)

Vote for Blake! :p

Best thing that could have happened. I didn't think it would happen in a million years, but this is the best possible senario.

Now we get two totally different styles in the final, instead of two very similar singers. And now Melinda can pursue the Contemp Christian/Gospel genre that I really think she wants to/needs to go for. If she had made it to the final there would have been more pressure to put out typical pop music, and there's no doubt that Jordin and Blake can do "pop" music better than Melinda. She needs to do something with more soul to be successful.

Again, I think everyone wins tonight

I agree with you 100%. With her age and experience, Melinda is far better off on her own!

That was AI editing. I live near Glendale where Jordin (and her parents and brother) were all over the news and radio last Friday, and her fans were ALL ages. Her dad is a former football player with fame of his own and has been trying to divert attention from himself from the very beginning.

WestGate was packed beyond belief and the temps were 105-107 that day. It was HOT and the local news estimated upwards of 10,000 fans out there and this was right around 4 pm which, in Phoenix, is the hottest point of the day.

I think AI showed her with a lot of young high school fans because those are her peers

It's a singing competition, not a beat boxing competition. Jordin should win...if nothing else for her performance of Martina McBride's "Broken Wing".

Taylor Hicks > Blake the Beat Boxer
Daughtry, Underwood, & Clarkson > Everyone

Doesn't that (at least potentially) say more about the people who bothered to show up for the cameras than about her actual universe of support?

(Just to reiterate, I SERIOUSLY don't care at this point, but that reasoning jumped out at me a bit.)
