While easily changeable, Disney still has officially May 22, 2026, Dec 18, 2025, and Dec 17, 2027 as holds for theatrical Star Wars films. The first of the two being the Obaid-Chinoy one following Rey.
To piggy back, I understand & agree that Lucasfilm’s theatrical slate has been abysmal since the sequels.

I think the announcement of those 3 new films was kind of their “clean slate” announcement. I’m optimistic that we will see those 3 new films.

The problem, unless I missed it, is none of the 4 films are officially green lit from Disney. Lucasfilm has "announced" them but that doesn't mean squat. So while Disney might have place markers for star wars, I've seen nothing official of exactly what. Either way, my point still stands. Thinking movies won't happen, isn't baseless in the least. They've made 5 films and cancelled 11. And they had place markers before and those didn't happen either. So odds sway more to that most, or all of them aren't happening. I'd say the best shot would be the mangold jedi origin film. The other 3 make very little sense to go back to the theaters with.

I think the “Mando-verse” film is a no brainer. The Rey film will definitely put the “fans” to the test when it comes to box office turnout.

Wait, I think we need to define "green lit" here.....

A film being announced by the studio is officially "green lit" or approved. That doesn't mean it is for sure going to be made and can't be cancelled or changed. It just means that the studio has approved it to move forward from just the development stage.

And as we know Lucas has a long history now of things going from development to being announced and then cancelled. So I know that is why there is some caution and mocking around the Filoni and Rey movies announcement. But that doesn't mean they haven't been "green lit".

I would love to see the mandoverse film happen. I just don't see it as a smart move for the big return to theaters. I don't see it being the 2nd movie as that would put it in 28? That's way too far off.

I already did, green lit by Disney as happening. Like you agreed, Lucasfilm has a very poor track record of announcing things that actually happen. So their word doesn't mean all that much.

I'm the opposite, I think it would be a smart move to have it be the first movie back to theaters. Have it act as the bridge between OT, the TV shows, and ST. Let it be the final send off to that chapter as a send off the fans might actually like.

And then start the Rey films as the next chapter with hopefully more of a fresh slate.

I agree their word doesn't mean much until the film is released. But "green lit" means something in Hollywood, it means there is starting to be budgets attached, which is when they get announced. Again doesn't mean it has to be made.

You think it's a good idea, I think it's a good idea. I'm just not sure the interest is there overall to make it a good idea. If Ashoka can pick up some real steam by seasons end. And Mando season 4 hits the same highs as season 1, there's a chance. But it's a big hurdle to jump when you expect the everyday movie goer to head out to see something that requires at least 3 or 4 seasons of D+ shows to understand whats going on. And I think that's partly to blame for Ashokas slow start.

The other element to a Mandoverse movie is they don't want to alienate TV viewers by asking them to pay to see any finale in the theater.

Game of Thrones toyed with a movie finale but wisely decided against it because they felt their TV audience was entitled to finish it on TV.

Which is not to say any of the Disney+ characters shouldn't transition to the big screen. The debate is whether or not it should be a standalone story that takes place after the shows have delivered an appropriate conclusion.

…it’s almost like that’s 100% worthless like the last set of “placeholders”?

…Rey…That’s really funny…does she know her name yet?

…but I bet she works CHEAP…at least 👍🏻

The sequels were catastrophic…and the studio has been shut ever since…

And they built three homages to them 🙄

It would be nice if eventually we all could come together and let the truth have its day…
…I promise they’ll still take our money for tickets

I guess my point is, outside of being in some white clothes now, is the Ahsoka post this episode any different that the one from before it? Doesn't seem that way to me.

I’m not so sure. One of the early complaints was that Rosario Dawson didn’t ‘seem’ like Ahsoka. I think there is a lot of latent guilt or whatever about Anakin.

It isn’t just the clothes. At the end of the episode she’s smiling, joking, finding wonderment in the world. I think she was aptly playing up a little bit that the character was a bit dead inside. I see it as Ahsoka really being finally back.

It was important closure for her that there were always two parts to Anakin. Nothing about her being attracted to the dark side, but processing the friend she knew and what he became and eventually what he returned to. Luke had that moment with Vader, but Ahsoka never did.

Ahsoka is not Anakin and doesn’t have to follow his path. I think that was the other takeaway. She chooses to live and really he did not. That was his lesson for her.

So been traveling and finally caught episode 5. Honestly this may be my favorite single episode of any star wars series. How it all went down with Anakin and changed her were just so brilliant to me. And I can't wait for the direction this is going. I know everyone is talking Thrawn, but honestly it's just not a big deal to me. I am all in on where Ashoka goes from here.

And, I think an unintentional consequence of this may be its shedding light on how terrible the prequels really were. We really got to see how awesome Hayden could have portrayed Anakin. I know with the failings of the sequel, it had a tendency to make people feel fonder of the prequels. I know for me it's made me remember a bit better how bad I thought those were.

I tend to agree

The Asohka Mando season 2 and the finale were the best in my opinion…
But this one is right there

The conversations were really great. They desperately need that

Any part. Anything other than the nonsense arguments being made here that have nothing to do with the show.
Well according to Lucasfilm this show is part of a direct lead up to the Filoni Mando-verse film. So discussing the likelihood of that film becoming reality based on this show isn't really nonsense. Since it's a weekly drop, these are things you talk about in-between episodes. There's only a small handful of us actively engaged week to week talking about the show. There's only so much to analyze directly with a 30/45min episode. We have good star wars to talk about, so hopefully more people jump in.

When is Mando season 4 coming? I wonder to what extent that will delve into the return of Thrawn and thus bridge Mando and Ahsoka. There's also Skeleton Crew which will tie in and supposedly will be coming at the end of this year (three months to go so they need to hurry and announce it soon).
