After wishes magic goes away fast

Do any of you have kids. 930 is pushing it, sitting around an hour is not an effective solution.

How would I solve it... The park was not designed for a mass exit. Keep the park open for an hour or so. Then you spred the crowds out.

Maybe not blitz you on the way in with all the transportation closure times. It makes people think that if they don't rush they might be stuck.
Excellent points. Straight to the core of three of the main issues.

whatever you do, DO NOT enter Magic Kingdom for Extra Magic Hours when wishes is going on and over........been there....it is not pretty.

As thousands of people go one way, and you try to go the other....horrible! I will never do that again!

If that does happen, try to walk into the Emporium and walk up through the store or take a little time to look around. Its way better than inching up main street getting pushed and clumped and hot...bleh!

I don't mind crowds....its when the crowd is moving I don't like. lol

I have been taking my daughter since she was 5. We always stay after and have an icecream on main street and watch the kiss good night. We enjoy the break. We have never had a single melt down at WDW. We also take mid day breaks.

There is not rule that you have to stay for wishes. If you or your kids can't handle it don't go.

Disney is park where one watches fireworks with the family. This is what's advertised, this is what's paid for. One can expect crowds, but not impossible crowds or mismanagement of crowds.

When I buy a cheese burger I pay for everything on the burger but I don't like pickles so I take them off. Same thing here. If you don't like the crowds then choose another way to deal with it. Stay away, go to the beach at the poly and watch or take a few extra minutes and hang back. I am just saying there are other choices then just going with the masses and suffering because of it. You can't change what others do but you can change your own actions.

I very rarely stay for fireworks shows, or even watch parades, because I don't like to be crowded. I have also been staying onsite and opted not to go to a park, or have left early, because of crowds. I know how crowded it is over the Christmas/New Year's holidays, so would never visit then. I have only gone a couple of times in the summer, and then only to meet with people. Even my old favorite time periods are too crowded, so I only visit maybe once a year now.

It's the nature of the beast, and the only way WDW could realistically deal with it would be to limit the number of people allowed in the parks to a lower number. Which would probably prompt even more complaints from the general public. "I traveled all the way to WDW but because I didn't stay onsite I never got to go into the parks!"

The magic only goes away fast if you decided to leave right after the fireworks. Next time hang out at the hub until the kiss goodnight and you will find the trip to your car much more pleasurable.

No kidding. Have a seat. You waited this late for Wishes, stick around a while longer until the psychopaths are out then casually stroll to your car. :)

What is your suggestion for a better exit situation? I have to say I am not a patient person and I hate waiting but I am not sure there is a feasible way to improve this. Then again....I am not a very creative person. I would love to read/hear your thoughts!

Maybe Fast Passes to exit the park? :ROFLOL:

You're right. This happens at every big event too like concerts or sporting events. There are just too many people going to the same place to have it move quickly. And even if they did have a great plan, all it takes is 1 or 2 stupid people to clog everything up again.

Did you happen to notice the people sitting casually as you struggled past them? Those are people that realized that fighting to get through the massive throng of bodies is an extremely stressful event. Have a seat, laugh with your kids at the nutjobs fighting in the crowds, and have a great finish to your day. ;)

Well, we made it. Nearly 90 minutes. I agree that it is a fact of life with a fireworks show. Disney however did create theproblem and they are responsible for it. Maybe they accept it. No where else in their business is that kind of cattle heard allowed. Imagine if that was how you got out of the tiki room?

Listen, its Disney World and Wishes is a fantastic and popular show. I guess if Disney created a sub par theme park you wouldn't have to worry about the "problem" they created by creating an amazing theme park that attracts tons of visitors every day along with a fantastic night time show that thousands want to see.

Anything that I have seen in the past has had similar results. I went to a Apple Festival once that had backed up traffic and tons of people getting in and out. It was crowded! Every concert I have ever been to has had the same results. High School football games are the same way!

If they cut the fireworks and effect by 90%, eliminated the narration and music, and skipped Tinkerbell flying from the Castle the crowds wouldn't be as bad. This would make it much easier for you to leave after the show.

I remember a few years back we were still one of the families struggling to fight our way out of EPCOT after Illuminations. As we were jostled and bumped and stepped on for a minute I heard some kids making cow sounds like we were cattle in a herd. LOL After I stopped laughing at that I found a spot to sit and we waited for the "cattle" to leave. Wow that was peaceful. Really. And we got to watch the cattle stomp by with looks of disgust or sheer terror on their faces. LOL

"I can't understand why there are so many people?!?! Is this normal? You'd think they never saw a world famous fireworks finale at the most popular vacation destination in the world! .......OMG MOOOOOVVVVEE!!!!!

It's the nature of the beast. Anything that involves large numbers of people leaving at once its gonna be a cattle call.

Keeping the park open after Wishes does nothing. You said yourself, you have kids who cannot stay up late and that its for the family to watch. Well, odds are that a large chunk of the crowds leaving at that time also have kids who can't stay up late and are families heading back at the end. So people are going leave anyways. Look at the hard ticket events. There they still do fireworks just once, but have the second parade after the fireworks, and stay open a few hours later than that still. But yet it empties out after the fireworks. People pay an extra $55 for the party, and plenty leave less than 3 hours after it starts. The same reason why EMH (both AM & PM) have smaller crowds also applies here. Most people work on the same sleep cycle type arrangement. So they wake up at 7, eat breakfast at 8, then do dinner at 7 and go to bed at 9 or 10. Thats just how it works. So the few people who change their cycle so its different see a completely different WDW. If you get there at 8am for rope drop, you beat everyone who slept in. Or staying late, on the days the park is open til 1 am, it is dead empty. Even though people can stay later, most just aren't on that schedule. It's just human nature.

Next time you rush out, see how long it actually takes you to get to your car, get on the bus or monorail. Often if you end up waiting that long relaxing inside the parks, you can then just walk right onto your transportation. So you only end up adding 5-10 minutes overall to the wait time, but you remove almost all of the stress and worry.

Or you can take a proactive approach. Instead of watching the fireworks from the ideal location, pick a location that is better suited to a quick exit. Plenty of people choose to watch from say the train station at MK instead of the hub, and you then get a head start over almost all the crowds. Or watch Illuminations from the bridge by the twin gift shops instead of over in France. Same thing, you end up getting a head start over most people around World Showcase.

Maybe not blitz you on the way in with all the transportation closure times. It makes people think that if they don't rush they might be stuck. Per the announcment on the tram in the morning we only have 10 more minutes to catch the parking lot tram.... And we are in the middle of the crowd.

So if we waited, we would have kids that passed out and had to walk a long way down the parking lot. It has taken an hour and we are still at least 2 trams away from getting to our car.

Solutions, as mentioned leave some rides open after wishes, more trams (more monorails is not possible or practical). Staying and watching the castle twinkle, while cool, is not an effective solution.

I am still hoping to leave the fam in the resort and hop over to epcot to shoot some pictures, but I might bot get out of here.

On the bright side, until now, it has been a great day.
I have 3. If 9:30 is pushing it for your kids you need to either alter your schedule to where 9:30 is no longer pushing it or skip the fireworks. Part of the price of being a parent is altering your behavior to better suit you kids. I would love to be able to hit the parks at opening and stay until 3:00 AM but my kids would be miserable so I don't.

Do what I do... put a leash on them, stick a drink in their hands and tell them to suck it up. ;)

btw, I'm just kidding. :D You have to take your kids into account here too. Thankfully my kids are the ones that want to get to the park at opening and stay till close. :)

Yeah, any other time they would be complaining, but they're at Disney World! They LOVE to stay as long as they can. :animwink:
