Shanghai Disneyland Breaks Ground On Toy Story Land

Oh they just broke ground now? Yeah right...
Toy Story Land for Shanghai announced
From the corporate press release:
“Since its opening in June this year, Shanghai Disneyland’s operation has run smoothly and our guests have been very enthusiastic. We have received positive feedback from the entire society – all of which makes us excited about the future,” said Fan Xiping, chairman of Shanghai Shendi Group. “The newly announced Toy Story Land is part of the accelerated expansion plan for the first phase of the theme park. Both shareholders will continue to launch more new experiences to meet the needs of our guests from China and all over the world.”

Say what you will about Shendi, but they are at least building at a rapid pace and want to be number 1. It could be worse. Hopefully they just don't build the helipad...

They still have a lot to learn!

Also worth noting that Hong Kong's opened officially Nov 18th 2011. Almost 5 years to the day after the exclusivity agreement in the Asia region went into operation.

The Hong Kong Government just got screwed.

Edit: theme park university also notes this will have new attractions:

Seems like a good chance Flying Saucers from DHS make their way over. Especially looking at the early Shanghai map there appears to be two pairs of three circles in Toy Story Land.

Thought you guys might be interested in this. You can buy a copy of "The Art of Moana" from Stuart Ng Books signed by Ron & John and 14 other contributors from the film. If you were thinking about buying this book, please consider supporting this small business which has served the LA animation community for many years.

Thanks so much for sharing this! I'll certainly be buying a copy :)

Tell me about it. They have some of it built already.

Yeah I know. They're only building the flat rides, Six Flags/Cedar Faire get projects like this done in one off-season all the time.

It is confusing, I'm wondering if TSMM made it. Unless the Intamin half-pipe and caterpillar are now unique because they have a Woodie's whip ride instead of a drop tower (not to mention the Alien whip in Florida...)

It's by far the most desolate place in the under built park, so I guess that is something.

Just dropping in for a Spirited Quickee as I have the Post Election Blues because we are in big trouble as a nation and it is much more important for me to watch the USA crash and burn after 240 years than watch Disney. But I am sure I'll have thoughts after the latest earnings report (should I have said 'record'?) get released and it lathers up the fanbois real good.

Anyway, Toy Story Land at SDL was announced today as others have posted. Thought I'd pull up something a friend on the inside sent me months ago when discussing the half-built weird site. Said source said at the time: "Shanghai's Toy Story Land has been a Phase 1.2 project for years now. ... in 2013 [when you had the entire park roster] the park model and storyboards both had Toy Story Land already included, but as a purposeful post-opening addition. It's purpose is to be a quick addition that is nearly finished on opening day, yet doesn't officially open until six to 12 months after park opening. Worst case, if the park flops, it can be rushed to opening within six months as part of a media campaign to offer "new magic!" at the struggling park. Best case, if the park booms, it can open a year after opening as a way to modestly bump up park capacity while keeping the media buzz going for the successful park. That's why it looks so close to completion already, with just show paint and detailing needed to open."

I haven't had the time nor the interest to check back in on this, so you'd have to see what was on the 2013 menu that I placed here. I do recall it having two attractions, one QSR, retail and restrooms. Two of the four already exist and just need different paint treatments. Like taking the silver off the Lincoln Log railings (that is how they are disguised) and using a brownish wood-like finish.

I see some people talking three attractions, so it is possible they have added something. I still wouldn't expect anything but flat rides. It is very disappointing that this is even going into the park, but it is cheap and the other coming additions are not and will take a lot longer to build.

It's time they make a new TS E-ticket, one that the IP truly deserves!

can we stop citing self-reported attendance numbers? they're about as meaningful as 2016 political polling.

True, but it's no secret that MK and DL are the top 2 parks in the country.

absolutely, but as we know, they're considered destination parks, which (especially in MK's case) is based on reputation and legacy. the attendance of the secondary parks is far more indicative of the health of the resort as a whole, and the TEA numbers just don't give us an honest picture.
