We started the expansion even before opening Shanghai Disneyland in anticipation of its immense popularity in Mainland China.

WDI's output over the past sixteen years reminds me of Feature Animation going from its second golden age to "Home on the Range" and "Chicken Little".

Regarding DL, from my observations of my *very* large, multi generational extended family of friends and blood-relatives, the upcoming generations of young park-goers are every bit as in love with DL as my generation was. They love the recent additions and can't wait for Star Wars Land. DL is still the boundary-crossing, worth-the-money draw it's always been. There is no question that currently Disney is the leader in ATTENDANCE, But much of that is driven by nostalgia. How many of TODAYS 'first time' visitors will return again and again as we did after our first visit to WDW/DL, With the cuts/crowding/price increases I suspect the 'conversion' factor is much lower today than it was prior to the Iger era especially the 2011-onward period.
While I would love for them to get a new castle, they need not be jealous of Shanghai. That castle looks like a big box with spiresThe site-that-shall-not-be-named is reporting that Hong Kong Disneyland wants to tear down their castle. The reasoning (the site says)? HKDL (meaning the HK government or park officials, it doesn't say) is jealous of Shanghai's grand (and original) castle and they want a new one.
Ladies and gentlemen, the peeing match has begun.
I think it began when China agreed to a Shanghai park. That castle is huge and ugly, more a statement than anything classy and beautiful. The site-that-shall-not-be-named is reporting that Hong Kong Disneyland wants to tear down their castle. For me, from afar at first glance when watching a walk through it looked like it had scaffolding over it.While I would love for them to get a new castle, they need not be jealous of Shanghai. That castle looks like a big box with spires
Yes, one of the many areas where they seemed to go backwards in terms of Imagineering between DLP and SDL. The DLP castle is an absolute masterpiece that has become iconic in its own right. Even the color of the Shanghai castle is off-putting and I'm surprised such a hideous piece of work was signed off on for the park's icon.I think it began when China agreed to a Shanghai park. I think HKDL is owned by the Walt Disney Company VS Oriental Land Compnay....which means they would never spend that kind of money...I honestly wouldn't be surprised if the castle was torn down, but how the hell would they cover that up? The noise and the mess.
Hong Kong Disneyland is owned by Hongkong International Theme Parks. The Walt Disney Company owns a minority stake in the company with the rest being owned by the Government of Hong Kong. There is a similar ownership arrangement in Shanghai with the municipal government through Shanghai Shendi Group. The Oriental Land Company has nothing to do with the parks in China.I think HKDL is owned by the Walt Disney Company VS Oriental Land Compnay....which means they would never spend that kind of money...
I am actually surprised the Shanghai park did not make their castle look more like the castle from Tangled... That would have been fresh, new and a lot more interesting to look at
