Alright, I honestly don't think it's too much too ask that at least the majority of slides be themed if they want this to be a water "theme" park. Even relatively light theming like crush and gusher. It looks like all they're doing for most slides are painting them with a vaguely tropical island color scheme. That would be fine for a few of the slides (we excuse dueling dragons for a complete and total lack of theming during the ride portion, even now that its part of Potter, the "best themed land ever").It would also be fine if they were calling it a water park (though disney manages to theme their slides yet they still call them water parks)

But if they're gonna call it a theme park, I expect theme park standards. This is like a six flags centered around Cinderella castle. By water park standards it's incredible and better themes than almost any other water parks in the world (I still think the Disney ones look better themed even though volcano bay definitely looks more fun, but that's just opinion), but by theme park standards the slides are just not up to par.

Of course, all these opinions could change when it opens and we actually see/experience it.

If that's not snobbish and frankly laughable I don't know what is lol. Some you Disney addicts need to get over yourselves. There really should be an addict center for people like you. So glad I woke up from the stupor

Oh please share your wisdom oh enlightened one.

You know I'm a Universal fan, right? As I've already stated in this thread...

Edit: Your edited post isn't much better...

You are degrading a brand new expienece over something so trivial, it's pathetic. I'm glad I woke up from the mind numbing Disney stupor. And for the record, calling me a pretentious snob would not be an insult
Nothing is being degraded. In fact, VB is being praised by all.

Only the overly-sensitive who cant accept a different opinion are making it more than it should be

Yeah, water slides in a water park- you're right, how trivial.

You can't just write off someone else's opinion and be condescending towards them because it's different than yours.

True, but even that exposed tube is themed. Universals are just painted.
Netting and bland paints are not exactly much in the way of theming. So much of the explanation for why the Typhoon Lagoon expansions work and are themed are in the backstories, not so much their image.

A sacrifice that took away from more attractions. If Universal wasted all that money to mask and hide the slides, it would take tons of space for slides and other attractions just for unusable space. That's doesn't benefit the consumer who now due to less capacity now is forced to wait longer to do attractions or feels like they paid too much for a water park. Typhoon lagoon is larger than VB and with less attractions by 6 will be 5 once they open the new ride.

Same thing with Blizzard beach at 12 attractions in comparsion to VB's 18.
This is a design problem and there is no absolute mutual exclusivity between masked infrastructure and capacity / attraction count.

I meant flat as in not the large pipe shape.
Again, a design problem to be solved by designers.

Look, I'm the furthest thing from a pixie duster, but if Disney put bright neon slides in Typhoon Lagoon, we'd never hear the end of the fanboi resentment. Destroys the theme. Kills the immersion. Mickey's so cheap. Etc.

I realize self-awareness doesn't run deep in this fan community, but come on. Give it a try.

This a million times!

Who would have expected so much eye rolling when people suggested theming was important...

In my opinion I think that actually looks a lot better. Yes it's exposed slide, but it is themed. The netting and aging are pretty simple theming, but I think they go a very long way in making it look better. The neon tubes stick out a lot more and don't quite blend in with the environment.
I wasn't trying to say what looks better. Only pointing out that tubular slides like that aren't as easy to just hide out of sight and blend in like the mountain slides.

I don't. That coaster needs to go. Total eye sore from the Hogsmeade train station. Hulk strangely doesn't bother me in MSHI though.

I've been to a Six Flags water park. This is undeniably way above that.
ffs Can't we just talk about the Tower of Terror?

Because Typhoon Lagoon goes for a different aesthetic. To me it's always seemed like Volcano Bay will extend the colorful look and feel of Cabana Bay which makes sense since they're within walking distance.

I don't know about you, but it works. And it's the only reason why it works.

And this is the last I'll say on the matter of Volcano Bay.

Hopefully Nintendo Land is one of the reasons Reggie Fils-Aime is on Jimmy Fallon next Wednesday so we can get back to that. They did say news "soon."

Volcano Bay looks cool. It looks on par with the WDW water parks and light years ahead of mostly any other US based water park. I think we should see some new tech as well since it's been 20+ years since a WDW water park opened.

I get that the point of this board is to discuss things, but sometimes we get a little carried away when digging into the details. Can't we just call it a well themed water park?

A for effort:)

I always thought Cabana Bay had those funky colors because the theme was retro 50s/60s.

IMHO the colored slides make the place pop a little more. They extend from grey rocks so if they wanted them to blend in more they could have gone with grey plastic instead but it would have looked rather boring. Having the colored slides mixed in highlights that this is a water park and the volcano isn't just a prop but there are actual slides built into it.

Reggie is probably on to convince any foolish parents to buy the excellent value Wii U for their kids this Christmas. Little do the parents know, the system will be dead in three months.

And i cant respect that.

Do i agree with it? No, i think its a stretch. But no counter points i may have is going to change your opinion, so there is no point.

With them already announcing that they're cancelling production I doubt it. It's most likely either Mario Run or Zelda (or both). Parks is just my hope.

I don't see the big deal about calling it a Water Theme Park. Parks like Blizzard Beach, Typhoon Lagoon and the upcoming Volcano Bay deserve to be in a category of their own.

I'm happy to see UNI raising the bar here. If they hadn't started taking away market share, the Mouse wouldn't be throwing millions at WDW right now.

And of course VB is going to look great. It's brand new, with brand new tech. No, the slides aren't all themed. Total immersive theming has never been UNI's core mission. But based on the color choices of these exposed slides, it really makes them pop, in a good way. Especially as they weave in and out of the volcano. I have no doubt the place as a whole will stunning.

Again, as a big WDW fan, I hope UNI keeps them on their toes. Competition like this is a win-win for theme park fans. That's why I never understand all the arguing over it.
