I get that the point of this board is to discuss things, but sometimes we get a little carried away when digging into the details. Can't we just call it a well themed water park?

NO!

The knives are out and until people convince their mortal enemies that their use of the word "theme" in relation to "park" and "water park" is objectively wrong from the viewpoint of God himself, there can be no peace.

I'm just gonna say it, Moana was stunning. A movie worthy of being spoken of in the same breath as films like Fantasia, Pinocchio, Sleeping Beauty, The Little Mermaid, and Beauty and the Beast. There were times where my jaw just dropped from the visuals, the music, and the acting and I dearly hope we see Auli'i Cravalio in much more as she grows up. She was the biggest stand out with one of the most powerful voices I've ever heard in a Disney film.

I've seen it twice already. Wouldn't mind seeing it again. All the songs are stuck in my head. If I had the DVD, I'd be replaying it like a four year old.

If you see me to start posting my own hand made fan art or mash-up videos on YouTube, please get me the help I need.

It looks like all they're doing for most slides are painting them with a vaguely tropical island color scheme.

The slides aren't painted, they solid color material. The reason they are colored that way is that's probably a couple of the colors offered by the manufacturer and they had a budget that didn't include custom color slides.

Volcano Bay isn't a rush job. They have had the largest full scale model Universal has ever built in one of the soundstages for over 3 years. Universal Creative circled the globe doing research. And it's going to have elements that bring it a lot closer to theme park territory than any water park ever such as a table service restaurant, concierge services, and a night light show.

To add to this, the supplier of the water slides has been working on the designs for years. They have a lot more in store than what we've seen so far. Universal goal was simple: best waterpark in the world and for that reason, hired one company to build the slides... the best one in the world.

I am more excited to visit Volcano Bay then Shanghai Disneyland in 2017. It will be my 33rd waterpark that I visit in the world. My personal favorite waterparks are either Super Aqua Club in Canada or Piscilago in Colombia.

The amusement park industry is finally starting to give waterparks their fair place and a proof of that was at last year IAAPA: nominated for the Applause Award were Busch Gardens Tampa (winner), Legoland Billund and... Siam Park. What is Siam Park? A water theme park themed to Siam (old Thailand) located in Tenerife, Canary Islands.

But what would I do with my time if there weren't 10 new pages a day of people arguing about whether Volcano Bay is a theme park, a water park or a water theme park?
It could be an interesting conversation as the vocabulary is definitely lacking but the arguments are just insipid whining instead of a thoughtful analysis.

The story I am getting from Volcano Bay is they built a waterpark around and in a magnificent volcano....
Something themed to itself is not a great story.

Table service dining, concierge service and a light show are not distinguishing characteristics of a theme park.
