Speaking of themed IP centric resorts-

Why are there so few of them? I mean, I'd probably book a room at a Star Wars hotel or a Princess themed hotel or similar stuff. There are specific themed rooms all over but what about entire resorts? Then again, if they went down this path I can see where it might end up:

All-Star Movies Resort => Mickey's Hollywood Movie Resort
All-Star Music Resort => Rock'n Roller Resort
All-Star Sports Resort => Disney's ESPN: The Resort
Animal Kingdom Lodge => Lion King Lodge
Art of Animation Resort => Already done
Beach/Yacht Club Resort => Anna/Elsa's Summer Club Resort
BoardWalk => Olaf's "In Summer" Resort
Caribbean Beach Resort => Pirates of the Caribbean Beach Resort
Contemporary=> Disney's Star Wars Resort/Jedi Tower
Contemporary/Bay Lake Tower => Disney's Star Wars Resort/Sith Tower
Coronado Springs => Kuzcotopia
Fort Wilderness => Donald's "Good Scouts" Resort featuring Huey Dewey and Louie
Grand Floridian Resort => Minnie's Victorian Adventure
Old Key West Resort => TaleSpin Resort
Polynesian Village => Disney's Tiki Room Village
Pop Century => Disney Channel Resort
Port Orleans => Tiana and Naveen Bayou Resort
Saratoga Springs => Aristocat Landing
Wilderness Lodge => Brother Bear Lodge
Most of the resorts were built before the franchise mandate. Now the world has a Toy Story Hotel whose form makes more sense for Tomorrowland than it does Toy Story.

  1. Avatar: The Last Airbender is still one of my favorite shows, and I really think it's one of the best TV series of the new millennium. It's a shame that the movie has to even exist.
  2. As for James Cameron's Avatar, I think that you're slightly off about it's pop culture impact. It revolutionized 3D. The medium went from being a gimmick to being a well rounded part of movies (not all movies have great 3D, but some, like Doctor Strange, were definitely enhanced by it). I think that the sequels are arriving 5 years too late. Avatar 1 came out in 2009. Avatar 2 will come out... when? There was talk of it being released this year, but I don't think they've even started with the motion capture yet. Pandora's opening could have been a great tie-in to the sequel, but it looks like that opportunity is lost.

Technical advances do not equate to cultural impact.

Speaking of hotels and IP, Disney Explorers Lodge is about to open at Hong Kong Disneyland. April 30th is the day.

It looks great, but alas they've incorporated interesting IP elements. One such is known as the "Kevin Garden." Really roles of the tongue.

Still it should easily be one of the great Disney hotels, everything I saw in person looked impressive.

Just silly IP where there's no need having any.

I see we're talking about donuts.

I think @WDW1974 threads need some sort of mod access to prevent anyone else but the OP from posting more than 1-2x a day.

Food is also discussed in Spirited Threads generally Cheesesteaks though..., If you just want to see what Spirit posts just search for his posts using the search tool it cuts out ALL the noise.

With the CBR and CS expansion projects announced today, is there more hotel projects on the way that we should be seeing
(permits) or hearing about soon? @WDW1974 @danlb_2000 Wasn't there some talk about an area near The swan and Dolphin for a new tower?

I would be so curious to see HKDL's occupancy numbers. It seems to me that a third hotel at a similar price point to the other two is not really warranted and will add some drain to the resort's already precarious numbers, but that's just a guess.

I met him as a teenager, he used to make promotional appearances where he' actually make the donuts. It was a little after morning rush and he was coming and going from the back stocking donuts a couple times before we even recognized him. Real nice guy

That's what I miss about the 'Old' Dunkin's the FRESH donuts, Now they are are centrally manufactured somewhere and not worth eating. You were so lucky to meet him and as you note from all reports he was an amazing guy with a heart of gold.
