@WDW1974 - did you see this piece in the LA Times? It's amazing that Disney would rather close a show than pay a handful of CMs a decent wage each day.

In addition to my other comments if Disney were to get a STRONG union in place labor cost would rise significantly and it's abusive (to workers) policies would have to change as their current unions can most charitably be referred to as TAME unions. By no means does TWDC want an effective union presence at the parks.
By actions like these TWDC is ensuring they get an aggressive union as companies generally get the unions they deserve.
For example the MOST heavily unionized air carrier is Southwest but because of the companies employee friendly policies and 'open book's accounting SWA basically does not have labor problems. Compare to American/United and other US carriers.
