what's with the hating on drunk college kids at Epcot? Raise your hand if you weren't one of those once upon a time-

Those drunk college kids grow up to be employed professionals who take their families to Walt Disney World because of all the fun they had there when they were younger.

Right?

The last few years have not just been little groups/individuals of that age group stumbling around F&W, it's been bigger groups of students (I know personally of a few groups of about 15, I've seen larger) getting plastered and being ridiculously obnoxious as a large group. I suspect these are frat/sorority or dorm groups, usually (99%?) from UCF.

Saw a picture on Twitter--basically running parallel to and along Westwood?

I think you're a little confused, as Westwood is on the other side of Sea Harbor Dr. ;) This would run across the canal towards I-Drive and up along the other side of the retention pond Kraken is next to on either side of the canal. So bordering I-Drive making for some nice eye candy.

I believe it's I-Drive it runs next to...

Right?

Because they're the ones responsible for this "drunkytown" crap that we're now responsible for....

Da** this thread changes so fast I can barely keep up. I'm several posts late to the "Drunkytown party" but...

I was one of those "drunk college kids" actually... wait... I don't like to lose control and like to remember things.

Correction:

I was one of those "tipsy" college kids -- but it wasn't at EPCOT.

It was at a glorious place called Pleasure Island, where during Spring Break you downed shots through ice tunnels that came down from a "lifeguard" at the top of a lifeguard chair and test tube shots were everywhere you turned. Thank God for the Disney bus system. :)

I think my girlfriends and I had one or two drinks over the course of a day at EPCOT. We were there for the rides and knew it was a family place - plus I would just feel weird getting plastered at EPCOT. We respected the place and the families there.

Plus, being college kids low on cash we were saving our $ for the party that was PI. We figured we could drink cheaper there. ;)

Heck, one of the reasons I thought Disney needed a place like PI was to be able to contain the drunk college kids. Not to mention the immediate return of company money by cast members on Thursday night after getting paid.

My birthday is during Spring Break, so I admit that it was when I got a little tipsy (especially when they used to sell yards of beer at the Adv Club and everyone kept buying me a refill all night long).

I'm more of beer snob these days. I like to go and do some beer flights at Epcot but that is usually the extent of my drinking at Epcot. I did learn that I hate chilli pepper beer last month. It's usually more of a pain to get a drink there than back at a resort lounge(plus, no Tables in Wonderland discount).

I'm still hoping the rumors are true that a version of The Edison ( https://www.edisondowntown.com ) is going into where the Adventurers Club was. Some of the art on the construction walls look in line with this concept. I'd like to have a nice place to have some over priced drinks in the evening.

Hey @71jason is today the first day of operation for the amphicars?

Disney PR, I mean attractions magazine is out there with a camera crew converting the first paying guest.

Oh and I weep for Orlando local news

Anyone else think those amphibious cars only last about six months? Nice concept, just not sure it will take hold or not be a maintenance pain.

Years ago when our city converted a brown site that jutted out into slake Michigan to a museum campus, entertainment and upscale housing district someone came with 2 of those amphi-cars and to do rides through the district and cruises in the main harbor channel. It didn't last the summer.

Not sure if it was bad marketing, not cost effective, or if too many people around here have boats (or know people with boats), that it wasn't a large enough novelty to be sustainable.

Eww take out Star Wars, Marvel and Dreamworks films and that is just depressing.

That would be like saying, "Take Big Mac, Quarter Pounder, and French Fries out of the mix and McDonald's Sales are just depressing!" ROFL.

You want real depressing, look at Disney's Live Action slate over the past decade prior to Marvel. Imagine what it would look like now without two of the world's great mega-franchises.

Disney has had very very few "original" properties, ever - live action or animation. Over the next few years, it's pretty likely Disney will end up being the #1 money making studio of the decade. And that wouldn't have happen without the "Ew!" other franchises.

It's really time for folks to get over this, it's becoming rather silly.

I only drink wine now, but in college I drank as much as I could without hampering my studies. All the cute girls drank and the first time I ever met my wife she was puking up chunks from a kegger party. So while drinking may not be the smartest thing to do in college, I'm one of the few who can say it actually changed my life for the better.

I've clarified Disney live action remake to the more inclusive Disney live action "BRAND deposit" in the incorrect manner Disney chooses to use that term. "Tomorrowland" is absolutely one of the company's "BRAND deposit" exercises.

Unfortunately, you don't see where I'm coming from and I apologize if I haven't made it clear enough. The issue with these live action BRAND films is that they don't add anything, they strip mine existing Disney works. With the exception of "Rescuers Down Under", all of those films are not based on Disney IP. They all sought to use these existing stories as foundations to tell new interpretations of stories. They were all additive. With these live action projects, all Disney makes are xeroxs of its reinterpretations. Do we want a Disney that just serves up less imaginative versions of we already know instead of offering us something new?

That's not to say these films are bad, Cinderella was very good and I have high hopes for Brad Bird's "Tomorrowland" and Jon Favreau's "Jungle Book", but we need to see that these BRAND deposits films are bad for Disney long term and that there is a distinction between adapting existing work versus mercilessly strip mining the company's IP.

Oh and @BrianLo , I will get to your argument that Disney wouldn't want to make a film like "Star Wars" or "E.T.". Some family needs have had to take precedence over messing around on these MAGICAL parts for me to offer you a thoughtful rebuttal.

This is a bigger problem with Hollywood itself becoming very risk averse, and going back to porperties it knows can make money because the risks associated with putting out a big budget bomb are too high for many companies.

But it's not "Disney". They are Disney Owned or Distributed. Really hard to get warm and fuzzy and all emotionally attached to "Distributed by Disney!!!!!!! Yeah!!!! Disney Worldwide Distribution!!!!!!

Just kinda rings hollow.

But it will make them a boat load of money.

I liked Disney more when they made less money.
