A Set of Goofy Observations

RoE gets WAY more screaming though. People are generally shocked about some of the effects. Chaos is huge for that. The Seawall Pyro, too.
It's a barge that explodes in fire, of course people are going to scream.

If you set Main Street ablaze every night, I'm sure there would be a few yelps around.

I always hear lots of screaming and cheers for wishes...and it is okay to tear up at Wishes...many people do..though some do not admit it...;)

I prefer Wishes!:D

Hence, the better reaction. :D Shock value is huge...and besides a FEW of the FL launches in Wishes, there's a severe lack of it.

Remember in DL uses a ton of fire for IJA, and VERY close and large launches for Pirates and HM. Magical uses confettii and Dumbo. Tokyo's Castle catches on fire.

And look at the fact that 99% of the audience for RoE have absolutely no idea what is going on.

The narrator is important for an MK show in my opinion. It also serves as a buffer which gives the smoke a chance to clear ebtween the acts.

But if you use recognizable Disney music, people would easily be able to tell what's going on without a narration. Start playing villain songs and have scary fireworks, people will tell its the villain section. Start playing Disney love songs with prettier fireworks then people will tell its the romance section. Play "Wish upon a star" and people will tell its getting close to the finale. You don't really need Jiminy to say "OMFG!111 The villains are coming!!!1!"

In fact, I think Jiminy would work fine just as an announcer for the beginning and end.

I think the majority would agree with you that it's a great show. I don't think the 4 or 5 people here who don't like it are representative of the general opinion of the show.
Heck, we're not even representative of the general opinion on this site.

It's cool. Everybody has that one thing that seems universally loved and they can't for the life of them figure out why. This is mine. :p

I stuck in some of my own comments amongst yours with red text. I had my own started over in General Discussion but you obviously drag crowds better than I do. So, I just said my piece here.

Well it's been a great few weeks here at the World, and I must say, I'm very, very impressed with what I'm seeing from the parks on this recent trip. Things seem to be improving, and there's nothing wrong with that.

Honestly, it was crowded last week, but my family and I still managed to do basically everything in every park by 6PM. Wow, and I thought we were good!

One main thing I really noticed is how maintenance has really improved head and shoulders. I noticed things off or slightly jerky on rides one day, and the next they were fixed, where as recently it had taken weeks to see improvement.I agree. A lot of maintenance has been done in the last few months, since October. Toy Story Mania's queue looks good as new.

Magic Kingdom

I'll start off with the park that has caught the majority of my complaints these past few years. I must say, without a doubt the Magic Kingdom is improving. Maintenance is almost spot on, the cast is still great, and even the food tasted better this past week. Now for the updates:

Splash Mountain will NOT be receiving lap bars during the next two months as I've been told. The reason for the lengthy refurb is that all the lifts in the ride will be ripped out an replaced. Expect the lap bars next year. Other than that, Splash looked terrific. Every effect was working perfectly, and the place looked in great shape. It was bone dry and depressing when I saw it last night. A basin of concrete with scaffolding and screens. Also, as I noted in my thread, the logs have actually been removed from the flume. IN the past, during these refurbs, they've just let the logs drop into the flume as they were. The fact that they're all gone somewhere special makes me think they'll be doing something to the logs, even if it's not the lap bars.

Big Thunder Mountain is still the best mountain out of the four, with Splash following at a close second.

The past round of building touch ups look great, and a lot of MK's colors are really popping now.

Peter Pan's flight is honestly an embarrassment. I can't believe a classic attraction has been basically left to rot. Refurb this attraction now! I second this. It was a great dark ride with great technology when they built it, nearly 40 years ago. Now it's clunky, has bad audio, and the sets are looking worn. I'd prefer to see it get some TLC and fix and plus it a bit.

Pooh looks great, and is really a terrific dark ride. Yup.

Jungle Cruise's digital animation has made show scenes much more dependable, and there are less and less malfunctions. Unfortunately, I've been told not to expect a refurb this year. Or next year. Yup, it's been pushed back to 2012.By digital animation, does that mean they've digitized the controllers for all of the animatronics? That's awesome. I can't wait to go back on Friday and get a skipper who speaks English. We rode it last night and our skipper spoke Japanese with a hint of Engrish. I was excited to hear the new script, but couldn't understand a word. He needs to E-NUN-CI-ATE.

Pirates looked and sounded GREAT. I was really impressed. And to whomever asked about Davy Jones - the effect was working perfectly last night. The entire ride was tip-top.

Mansion is still the best attraction on property, and looked like it had just came up from a refurb. Indeed it is, and did. I love the new stair room more than anything else.

HoP is a very solid show. Solid indeed. The took a classic and plussed the hell out of it. I was surrounded by apparent newbs and they were "ooh and ahh" over new things. Lincoln's solo speech is grand, and roll call is strong.

Country Bears looked great, and sounded great as well, except for Buff, Melvin, and Max. They were clicking all over the place. We don't see it anymore because we don't want to be embarrassed on behalf of Disney when the people around us are laughing at the technology rather than the content of the show. The audio is played off of a record, and the performers are pneumatic with a hint of spring-loaded mechanical parts. I'd love to see this one get a complete overhaul with A100s, digital audio, and some SFX. People would actually see it again.

Didn't waste our time with Stitch.Nor did we

Buzz is still incredibly fun, even if it's dated and ugly.

Had a good MILF show for the first time in a looong time.Did they add material recently, or do they have skits that they completely rotate through? Act 2 involved a Magic Comedy Box that talked him through doing a stand-up routine. It was a very funny gag and worked well, but I'd never seen it before, in my last 2 trips.

Now for the TTA. I rode it. I found it to be exactly as enjoyable as before the script was changed. I honestly pay no attention to the spoken words of the ride. It's there for relaxation to me, and it still does that job swimmingly. The only negative is the absence of the star tunnel music in Space makes that portion of the ride kinda creepy. That's exactly what I thought. It got VERY dark and I was starting to freak out a bit. I needed to be able to see something.

Space Mountain. *Sigh* The queue looks great, and the games are fun, even though I only played them for a few seconds. The pepper's ghost effects look amazing! It's crazy how faded they had become.

Now the load area ceiling is nice, but I HATED the configuration of sending you into the completely unthemed hallway at the back. Honestly, the refurb was basically all about queue and post show aesthetics, and they completely threw it out the window by sending you through that hallway, where the bare painted walls have already begun to be the victim of vandalism. Also aren't the air gates supposed to be lit up? They look pretty lame without it.

If the ride has been smoothed out, I could barely tell. I still had a heck of a lot of fun on it, but it's really no different than before. The obnoxiously loud lift and no audio doesn't help either.

The post show was nice, until the headache inducing "green screen".

All in all I give the Space Mountain refurb a D+/C-.

I ate at the Crystal Palace and Cinderella's Royal table and had excellent meals at both locations.

Now for a random MK rambling. Fantasyland will be great when it opnes, but MK wil still need more to do. On New Years Eve and December 27th, my family and I had everything in the park done by 8/6PM respectively, and that's without being commandos and running all over the park. If people can do that during the busiest time of the year, I really think more is needed at the flagship park.

Well...thoughts?

My thoughts on MK.....yes, it will need help. FL won't provide the competition Univ will get with WWOHP - even though they think this is their answer.

Well...
1) 5 minute wait for stitch all day today. Time to gut that building and put in a similar D show or some kind of dark ride (if it fits - no idea). Or simply go back to the non-PC Alien Encounter. Tell the kiddies to go cry on Snow White and let us big kids have a fun and thrilling show for once.

2) I have high hopes for Mermaid's new ride. That and all the princess messes around the place will bring some cohesion and hopefully attract the right demographics back to the park to take their little princes and princesses to see their namesakes.

3) Tree House to Tarzan. No, not very relevant anymore, and kind of silly, but it's 100 steps above what they have now. Nobody in my generation (or below) even know who the Robinsons were, or even the story behind the treehouse. Tarzan can be tamed down (color-wise, much unlike the flying carpets) and made to fit nicely in the tree with a little remodeling.

4) Plus/refurb CBJ

5) Tiki needs another new manager.

6) Come up with a REAL attention-getter for the TL stage. Not Stitch. Nothing lame. Something big and fun and bold. It's Tomorrowland....use the prices for a change and turn them into futuristic princes (new costumes) who play music and dance. Put on a music/dance/comedy show using far-out music on classic Disney songs. Yeah, this is a pretty lame idea, but I'm trying to think of ANYTHING they can use that expensive stage for that will actually draw crowds out of rides for more than 3 min.

7) More Streetmosphere. DHS kills with it. They had 3 groups out at one time this afternoon, and they were all 3 entertaining, funny and drew crowds.

Just things off the top of my head after a long frozen day at the parks. They all need to be analyzed by experts and thrown away, perhaps in reverse order.

lol, I was sorta exaggerating but that does make sense about Hades! So cool!

Is this how Disney explains the villains, or is it fan-made?

Fanmade idea, but one that definitely works. It's fun to try and make sense of the Disney universe/cosmology/whatever.

Doesn't this completely ruin the whole 100% family-friendly vibe MK has? Maybe I'm odd, but I like how ever person (well, maybe not babies) in the family can ride ever ride there.

Now everytime I see a presumably dead villain I will silently thank Hades in my head.:sohappy:

I'm going to give my next park update before responding to some of your guys responses.

Disney's Hollywood Studios

Other than having the worst name out of the lot, DHS has ascended to the rank of my favorite park. It's so much more alive than any of the other three with Streetmosphere, Mulch, Sweat, and Shears, and just the abundance of entertainment.

Toy Story is still a heck of a lot of fun, but I still think it needs to get rid of Fastpass. Also, A LOT of the 4-D effects were broken, most notably in Bow Peep's game.

I finally got to see Luxo!:sohappy: Wow, what a great piece of engineering there. Really adds a lot to the area. Unfortunately I didn't get to see the nighttime show, but I'll do that the next time I'm down.

Monsters Inc is still on the burner, as far as I've been told.

Tower is a close runner up for best ride on property.

GMR gets better and better every time I ride it.

Didn't waste our time on American Idol or Lights, Motors, Action!

Indy is still a huge crowd pleaser, and packs in the crowds.

Muppets was looking really blurry. That change over to digital can't come soon enough. But the show still kills every time. Kids and adults were cracking up in the preshow and the main show.

Star Tours is still great, and I can't wait for the new one and it's multiple beginnings, middles, and ends.

Watched a little bit of Block Party, and as nice as it is, I feel like it's really out of place in DHS.

Went into the animation building for a few pics with the Up! characters.

The BAH really needs to go, along with the BLT.

Fant! was great as always, but I really think Pocahontas needs to be replaced with something.

My general thoughts/musings on the park:

When Star Tours is done, DHS will have 3 top flight E-tickets(ToT, GMR, and STII), an underwhelming one(RnRc), and a great D ticket(TSMM). If Monsters happens, as I think it will, that will round out the park with another D ticket, but personally I think it needs a few smaller draws. I think Sounds Dangerous would be the perfect place to bring over a show like Cinemagique! Also, I'd really like to see Playhouse Disney replaced by a Phineas and Ferb show or attraction.

I've heard a rumor that Star Tour's queue will be heavily reworked, and that the changes to the Muppets preshow will be extensive.

Glad he was fixed. Saw him in the morning, stuck at night, WDI looking at him. He's AWESOME, huh? :D

Back burner, far back, I've heard. Nice to hear something more positive, though...Seeing that you are a but more connected than I.

Yea...the change of the Muppets preshow is really more of a worry to me. It would be like updating Star Wars with today's technology...

Wait...they did that!?

You know what I'm worried about...

They can easily keep MUCH of the spirit and look of these attractions AND update, without killing off what originally made the attraction sparkle.

If they do change it, I'm hoping its nothing more than a few cameos of some of the newer muppets characters inter-edited with the old preshow and that's it.

That Muppets preshow is sheer genius, and more entertaining than a lot of actual attractions. They should tread lightly with any alterations.

I'll reply to your red text first.

On Splash Mountain, yes, it always looks depressing without water in it. As for the logs, if I had to guess, I'd say that they may be preparing for the lap bar instillation next year. Or everyone I talked to about the refurb was wrong.

Yes, the Jungle Cruise has been getting digital animation controls. As for the skipper you got...I know. It stinks. But there's nothing that can be done as long as they insist on having ICPs work the Jungle.

Actually, CBJ went really well with guests the two times I saw it.

I know MILF has different shows, but I've never seen that one you're talking about.

Exactly.

I can't agree here. I'm really tired of all the cartoon characters taking over the MK

4) Plus/refurb CBJ

Definitely, but I don't see it happening anytime soon.

5) Tiki needs another new manager.

Truth

7) More Streetmosphere. DHS kills with it. They had 3 groups out at one time this afternoon, and they were all 3 entertaining, funny and drew crowds.

Exactly. Streetmosphere is just everything Disney should be.
