A Flap in the Right Direction

The Conundrum

While its nice to see the demonstrations returning the rest of the pavillion is all stupid now so it doesn't make up for it.

What was the point of destroying everything if they now have to spend money restoring things (Epcot's Enterance area, Living Seas, Imagination, etc.). What a waste.

Simply quoted for posterity sake.

Like D23? Snow White meet & greet? increased entertainment for July 4th?

Why is the opposite not true, then? You blow all kinds of little things into big issues. ;)
  • D23: All style, no substance. Disney made it bigger than it turned out to be.
  • It is what it is. That thread was more about the whole view of characters in EPCOT and in the end, you and I actually had close to the same view point.
  • The increased entertainment isn't the issue (to me- I've had no big part in that thread) it's Disney and how they release info.
It brought tears to my eyes, honestly.

I think you could have picked something more important than the removal of the fry cart in the MK making the backstory of the broken fence and wagon tracks meaningless.

But that's what makes you so special. That keen eye.

It says it has been on hiatus for 6 months.

I will swear I saw it last time I was there - the end of March.

It suprised me at the time, because I did not think the tank was operational any longer.

And I'm pretty sure I saw it in late March.

The trend for Future World was to get rid of "Edutainment" (I'm not sure if you hate the concept or the word :veryconfu).

It appears to me that the new Epcot team is emphasizing what made Epcot Center so compelling. I think it is a long overdue strategy and praise worthy. What they coulda, woulda, shoulda done is in the past is no longer of any consequence. There is a new sheriff and the only thing that counts in Future World is the Future. :)

I admire your optimism, and indeed felt a bit of the same when I saw the diver in March.

But just a bit. I don't see enough yet to think this represents an "emphasizing", a "strategy", or an "event worthy of praise". If stuff like this keeps happening (reopen the imageworks, finish SSE, get TT's effects working, etc.), maybe it'll get to be a strategy and I'll praise it. For now,I'll just say I was glad to see it.

Put the blame where it lies. Previous management.

I am currently reading Eisner's book, Work In Progress. He gave his opinion on how TWDC should be run, and what he thought would be the best for the company. It worked. Now??? They are doing OPPOSITE of what Eisner preached. I don't have the quote in front of me. I will post it when I can though. Everything in the quote is so true. And all I can say is, Bob Iger is running things the way Eisner said would lead a company like TWDC into demise.

Nah. Eisner was evil. Wanted to destroy TWDC. Iger's the new sheriff ... he's taking care of everything.

Sure.

You can't run a dream factory like General Motors or WalMart or Southwest Airlines. It doesn't work ... even if you have a large fanbase who get excited if you install new urinals (and those are just the women!)

BTW, maybe I should start a thread when I see someone replacing the toilet paper in a MK restroom ... because it would be about as newsworthy as some of the things I'm reading here.

I'll post the quote either tonight or tomorrow. I will venture to say, this was how Eisner ran the company for a good 10-15 years. It was the last 5 years of his reign that he went against this quote. He failed those last 5 years doing exactly what he said shouldn't be done. Iger?? Just following suit. Doing the same things that helped bring Eisner down. Going against what made Disney great. Eisner was a very creative individual, and surrounded himself with creative people. Iger?? He surrounds himself with yes men and MBAs. Lassitter may be the only exception.

Actually, I wanted to make a post about this one particular light bulb. When I was at WDW in May/June, I saw a light bulb was out, third light post down from the entrance of the Emporium. Found out recently that the bulb was finally replaced. This is all part of the grand plan of Iger. Fixing light bulbs.

If they don't replace bulbs people complain. If they do people complain. Hmmmm.

By the way here is where ME's opus ranks...

Really?

Hey, JT, how's the Sheriff doing with the Chinese?

How's the Studios doing ?(excepting Pixar and another film Disney's beancounters weren't allowed to tamper with)

How's cash flow looking?

What's the fourth quarter going to look like at WDW as far as both resort load levels and the more important per capita guest spend?

But I'm glad you think the Sheriff is fixing diving tubes and painting the MK.

You know big media business, JT. No doubt about it! We should all defer to your clearly superior intellect!

Careful, Goth, you're in danger of becoming one of my minions of darkness speaking the gospel like that.

So what if it is ... well ... um ... ah ... uh ... you know ... ah ... kinda the truth!

You have P&R/WDI now controlled by Jay Rasulo, a man without an ounce of creativity in his body, a man who has no love (or even maybe like) for the product his company is selling, a man motivated by short-term numbers only ... and the new Sheriff is thrilled to have him deal with those parks so he can focus on things like broadcast networks and the like.

John Lasseter is the best, and only as I see it, hope for the future of TWDC as anything special, anything apart from any other media behemoth out there.

Yeah, I saw a picture of Bob replacing the bulb, while Willow held the ladder for him. Priceless ... the Sheriff really cares.
