A Change In Strategy

The Conundrum

Sorry to throw ice cold water in the face of lathered up fanbois ... but you really need to look at the reality of what the OP put out there.

Again, much of it is true, but it has been said by many other folks here and elsewhere and yet people are reacting like Moses just brought it down the mountain.

I did.
I refuted pretty much all his "info", some publically, much in private.
He was a classic case of knowing just enough to be credible, but using that little bit to gloss over a pile of BS.

I don't recall the specific poster. But I have only been here since last spring (and I didn't post or read for three months when I was working in China and then traveling).

But that really seems to be the MO here as well. For anyone with a modicum of intelligence, who follows these sites, it wouldn't be that tough to come up with a post like the original one here.

FWIW, I don't think I was even remotely strong enough with some of what I said in my quickee response. But, rest assured, any and all money headed to MK will wind up with Ariel, Sebastian, Flounder and (my favorite Disney villain) Ursula. No new E-Ticket thrill ride is going to take its place. I'd like to see one in addition to Mermaid as MK has become more and more of a kiddie park (and one that won't hold up so well when Potter debuts at IOA), but princesses rule the Disney world right now.

And $30 million can't build even a crappy E-Ticket. Not with WDI building it. No way, no how, no possibility. And Convention Services has control over WoL and they aren't keen on giving it back to attractions ... once they take hold of something (Milennium/world Showplace, Odyssey etc) they don't like to return it.

The most laughable part is really about Disney weathering the recession, though. ... We'll see if the poster in question still pukes forth the same line when the next round of layoffs hits Disney in the near future (they're already being discussed behind the scenes and these would affect front-liners more than managers and people off-stage).

The timing of the post is rather interesting too ... especially since the excitement in O-Town is all about what SW and UNI are building. And today SWO surprises everyone by soft opening Manta and gets 30,000 guests on the first Saturday in May (by no means a busy time for visitors and locals).

Like I said ... interesting ...

I've had this thread on my mind all day. New EPCOT will do that to me.

I'm thinking that the 30 Mil thing might be a patch for WoL. Maybe bring back the WoL theme and just one ride and a revamped central showspace like it had?...

Didn't someone, few months ago, say that BW or CC wasstill intact while the other was gone?

Heres the cost of the new "WOL" redo: $0

BECAUSE it ain't happening and the OP was a complete fabrication. It's just Redis back with a new screenname.

I doubt Body Wars will reopen but the Cranium Command Theater is still intact. It probably won't be that hard to re-open the fitness fairgrounds either.

None of the three major attractions (and 2-3 minor ones) in WoL will ever reopen. The place is dead. It is simply a facility for the Food and Wine and Flower and Garden Fests as well as private events.

I know BW was intact in 2007 because WDI was using at least one simulator to test Star Tours 2.0 effects. I don't think anything has been removed because Disney doesn't do that (see everything from RC to PI for examples ... there's also a great story that I don't know well enough to tell from DL's past where they walled up a restroom in the late 60s or early 70s and discovered it 25 years later that shows how easily stuff gets left).

But I'd bet most of WoL that is walled off is largely exactly the way it was when it was open.

Believe me, I'm well aware of that ... but there are 'cool' people here ... intelligent folks ... folks that know what's going on/down.

But you gotta realize that pixie dust is a powerful drug ...

So is persistant pessimism.

With that said, I'm tending to agree with you on this one WDW1974. The information seems too much up the fanboy ally to be valid.

There are probably some kernels of truth in there, but we also both know where there are kernels as well.

And why would that be a bad thing? You give Fanboy a bad name! I have my doubts too, but there's always the idea that Disney listened.

I've heard whispers about some of it. The rest? Eh.

I've also heard about things that weren't on the list.

The important thing is...I have heard of a bit of a shift in the way of thinking. From many people I trust. So personally, I've gotten a lot of my hope back.

Back? Funny you mention that.:rolleyes::lookaroun

:ROFLOL::ROFLOL::ROFLOL:

He is definitely En****. You can tell by the way he worships the bitter one.

Anyway, I never got the impression the 30 million was to bring back WoL but rather a temporary fix to refurb another E-ticket. Most obviously JII but possibly Energy. So I think you could see a $30 million dollar show added to the WoL pavilion that is designed to bridge the gap while JII is refurbed. It could be anything including Pixar based (sorry). I am convinced we got the Stitch show to occupy people while SM and TTA is being refurbed. Same deal.

As have I. It's good to hear that from another person...unless we talk to the same person:lookaroun:lol:

I tend towards the positives, so I'm hoping the essence of the post is true, even though some of the specifics may be in doubt.

That Pavilion linking idea you told me about a few weeks ago popped back into my head today.

I wonder if this is it, even though that is/was/will be quite radical and Blue Sky.

:lol:It wouldn't be a bad thing, but you knwo what they say about something that seems too good to be true...

 Of course, but there's always the possibility that Disney DID listen. The rumors and the general tone of them have changed in recent months. Go pull a rumor thread from tow years ago, then one from last November or so. Then read this one. I think I see a change.

Maybe it's just me, I dunno.

After talking to some people, the MK thrill ride is definitely false. As for some of the other stuff...well it seems as if the RFID is being kept under a tight lid.

The Epcot E-ticket? Can't get any info.

Jake, I am neither a pessimist nor an optimist. I am a realist.

believe me, I wish I could gush about what TWDC is doing at WDW these days. But that wouldn't be true ... and I'd rather be honest than make people feel good.

Exactly.
