I get the same way when people call it Cinderella's castle instead of Cinderella Castle.

When and why did they drop the "devil"?
This is the first year we've been the Rays. The new owners dropped it from the name in order to give the franchise a fresh start from the previous ownership, so they changed the name and the team colors.

But they still left the old logo on the sleeve...I don't understand that one.

I don't have the sleeve in front of me and I'm too lazy/busy at work to go out and find it, but they do have a (sting)Ray on the sleeve that looks a lot like the old one. However, there is no reference whatsoever to Devil on it.

Nope, there is no reference to "Devil" but if they wanted a completely new image...it's odd that they'd keep the old logo while still having the new one. (The new logo is the "Ray" of sun right?)

It's HarmonioUS, NOT HarmoniYOU.

Did they change it just to become more "P.C."?

If so... thats pretty weak. :(

I think it was more because of the different types of "Rays" (Stingrays, Manta Rays, Devil Rays, etc.)

While the team wanted to sound "mean" they opted for Devil Rays...but Stingrays and Manta Rays are more common to Florida than the Devil Rays.

(Just one theory I heard...but the true answer could just be a "change of image.")

Brian is right, it's a change of image, not a P.C. thing. The new ownership wanted to distance themselves as far as they could away from the old regime (and it was a great idea). This is what a lot of people don't understand about our lack of attendance at games is about--the old ownership was so bad and awful that people stayed away in droves and swore they would never come back. There was a bad taste in the mouths of people about baseball in St. Pete that was directly caused by the previous owner. It takes time to right a ship and that's what this new ownership has done and is continuing to do.

...and doing a great job.

This is insane. Unfortunately I had to work tonight but it's still sweet. I work in a major Center City Philly hospital and it is getting crazy here. We went outside for a bit to soak in the atmoshere and I've never seen anything like it. I did shed a little tear at the final out and when Charlie Manuel spoke of his mother.
This city waited so long for this and for a long time Phillies fan like me, it feels so good to see them be able to do what no other team has been able to do for this city in a long time. This was for the fans who stuck with them through the 100 loss seasons. The Phillies never get much attention in this city because of the Eagles but I'm glad to see them get their due now.

The parade is set for Friday at noon. Can't wait. :sohappy:

Congrats to the Phillies and all their fans. What a great three innings of baseball last night--very exciting!

As for the Rays, we'll be back. New York and Boston better bring their "A" game from now on. Spend that money too--we've proved it can be done the other way.

Great, great season!

I'm going to Disneyworld!
