For us, it has always worked better not to book a TS on our arrival date.
But, we always try to do Chef Mickey's on one of our 1st dates.

We always do breakfast at Chef Mickey's (kids' favorite) the first wake up at the World. If we get there in time, our first evening is Kona Cafe (our favorite!).

Since we usually drive all day to get there we usually do not do a park that night. We all dress up and go to downtown Disney to eat at Wolf Gang Puck's Cafe.

Our first night, (after walking thru Epcot) has always been Ohana's. LOTS of food, and a lapu lapu for a cocktail. (Can we say :sohappy: :sohappy: ???) We return to Epcot, watch Illuminations, and PASS OUT for several hours, to wake up the first full day, well rested, well fed and happy to be "Home" ;)

We have a last night tradition, Cinderella's Castle. It's a great send off. It's not super princessy so my boys enjoy it

I'm a school teacher and the past 8 years we have left for WDW on the last day of school -its so exciting.. schoool is out, the bags are packed, drive to the airport (3 hours) and be there that night! But this year school started a week later than normal, we've had flooding (we also farm), seems like everything is off so we are not going..and I'm heart sick.

But we usually get there late - get checked in.. walk around the resort to unwind..take a hot shower and ready to go full speed the next morning which is always Magic Kingdom - we always start and end our visits with Magic Kingdom!

Chef Mickeys is always our first night tradition. Even when we had to stay at the Poly during rehab occurring at the Contemporary

We like to eat at....somewhere delicious!

Usually it's at a resort somewhere. Last year it was Kona Cafe. We had planned to do this dinner first again (because we loved it so much) but then we had to bump the trip back a day and already had our ADRS set so we added it on to the end of our week (going out on a good note?) This trip (in 3 days!) we will be eating at Cape May Cafe for dinner. :slurp:I can taste the crab legs!!

If it is a longer trip we don't go to a park on our arrival day, so we usually have dinner at one of the Magic Kingdom resorts and stick around for the evening fireworks. In the past it's been California Grill or Kona Cafe, this year we're heading to the Luau.

Most of our shorter trips have coincided with a hard ticket party so we'll go to the MK on the first night.

Either way, nothing says "I'm at Walt Disney World" quite like being at the Magic Kingdom, so we always start by doing something in the area, even if we don't actually go in.

In the past, I have found that CS works best for our arrival day as we really don't know exactly what time we'll get from the airport, check in, etc. And the fact we're ususally starving and want to eat right away! (It's a long flight from NL to Orlando!)

But this time we were able to get a walk-up to Sanaa b/c we were staying at Kidani. Sanaa was such a nice way to start the vacation and a great restaurant with amazing food!

In the past it's was Liberty Tree Tavern, after the character left it was Biergarten.

Next trip I am going to go back to a character meal, either Chef Mickey's or 1900 Park Fare to get my family into full Disney mode.

The last few times we have gone to Chef Mickeys on our first night. Now the kids have said that it is our new tradition that on the day that we arrive we have to eat at Chef Mickeys. I'm booked and ready! We will be there in less than TWO WEEKS!!:sohappy:
