Barbie in Epcot...Wow...Really?

Looking through videos on Epcot I stumbled on one..I had to say Wow...Really? The Magical World of Barbie...:lookaroun

I can Imagine how it was like when they were coming up with an idea like this......

But stomach it if you can....I only lasted about the first song..

Ah, but we can thank Barbie for one single thing. The Magical World of Barbie is the reason that the America Gardens Theater is covered. Prior to that show, the stage was completely open air.

EPCOT Center started to go to crap around 1994. Let me guess, the "Barbie" intrusion came right around the same time they felt changing the name from EPCOT Center to Epcot '94 was a great idea?

That is awesome. I think I had repressed the memory of that disaster. They had this thing going in the America Gardens Theater on my honeymoon -- my wife's first trip to EPCOT since '83. Nice reintroduction...

Epcot has had more than its fair share of odd shows. Remember that circus with the space-age elephants and trapeze artists?

That's a bad thing, IMHO. Kills the sight lines, and braces of the AA. Really preferred the view of ALL of AA.

I am positive I am in the minority here but I absolutely adored the Barbie show in 1994. Then again, I was a Barbie obsessed 10 year old at the time. Watching the video makes me giggle though. That is the cheesiest and most ridiculous concept for a show ever. The pressure of sponsorship sure does have a strange impact on the creative powers-that-be sometimes.

Im pretty sure Epcot center changed to Epcot in 2000.

Wiki has the progression as EPCOT Center > Epcot '94 > Epcot '95 > Epcot (1996). Take that for what it's worth.

Oh, I have some memories of that place... a) we have it on home video when I first visited in '94, so I actually remember most of the songs due to my sister's insisting against fast-forwarding that part every time I wanted to see Disney again, and b) we have a half-hour souvenir video based on the same show, Mattel seal of approval on the case and all. :lol:

If you watch the video, right after 4:00 Barbie says "we are so happy to be here in EPCOT '94"

I remember seeing Barbie arrive in EPCOT in her pink convertible one time. Cant remember what year it was. It was in the back between the two gift shops at the front of World Showcase. Seemed so out of place tho.
