Is this ridiculously cheap or a good idea?

We're on a budget. I booked the trip for September. We have 5 nights with basic tickets and the free dining plan and are staying at the POP. With the free dining plan, we're going to have to fend for ourselves for either breakfast or lunch. I choose lunch because I don't like breakfast much anyway.

I've been looking around and Disney is stinkin' EXPENSIVE for food. I'm THINKING about bringing a couple boxes of Pop Tarts and granola bars (that's all I eat for breakfast anyway - a granola bar) for our family to eat in the room for breakfast. I estimate that by doing that every day we'll save over $100.00 and probably more.

Is this a good idea or should we just suck it up and eat breakfast in the resort like "normal" people?

And if I do decide to be a cheap-o, where can I obtain a toaster or will I have to pack that too? LOL.

I bet that most people bring their own breakfast. You can also use the snack credits for a nice muffin, bagel, croissant or piece of fruit. Do you really want eggs & waffles everyday??

You will have to pack a toaster. But, that is a VERY good idea. If it will save you that much and breakfast isn't a big deal to your family (we are breakfast people). Also, if anyone eats cereal, you could always stop and pick up a half gallon of milk before you hit the hotel.

Hey! You're in Baton Rouge, too!

And no, we don't want a big breastfast everyday. The hubby would eat one everyday if I let him, but I never have a big breaskfast.

I know a number of people, including myself, who skip breakfast altogether. If you are accustomed to it on a daily basis though, bring breakfast foods from home is a very common occurrence.

Breakfasts in the parks tend to be a bit overpriced due to the character aspect pretty much all of them include. I'm pretty sure there aren't any table service breakfasts that don't have characters. The spread of breakfast food is pretty wide, but I often find myself not wanting to eat too much for the upcoming day in the park.

Bottom line: If you're going with children definitely do one character breakfast. If not, only do it if you really want to interact with the characters and don;t mind them roaming around to your table.

My family has done that is the past we have brought pop tarts, granola bars & the cereal cups that you can get at a shoppers food warehouse. For us though we just ate the pop tarts just like they are no toasting. I thought they had a toaster, coffee makers and a small fridge..

When we did the DDP in 2006, my wife packed the whole bag of cereal (without the box), from a few of our favorite cereals into our suitcases. For added protection, she put them into gallon size zip-lock bags. Then we used our DDP snacks to get large milks from the ASM store, and kept them in the fridge. We had a normal breakfast every morning before heading out to the parks, and it only cost us a few of the snacks from the DDP.

It worked out well because the extra space left in our suitcases was filled by our souvenirs on the trip home.

There are some great table service breakfasts that don't include characters and can be had at a decent price. Kona Cafe, The Wave, Olivia's and Whispering Canyon come to mind. Unfortunately though, they are a dying breed; we recently lost Boatwright's and Spoodles from this category (two of my very favorites)!

I do agree though that you'll be able to save a lot by bringing breakfast foods with you.

Have fun!

If you must have toast (or toasted pop tarts) I think you can get a cheap toaster at walmart for about $7. The cheapest was $6.96 though it might have gone up in price. Then, you will have lots more room in your suitcase for goodies coming home! :)

 It's hysterical, but I would do it too.
Cold Pop-Tarts hit the spot just as well, if you're not really into breakfast. Unwrap, inhale, hit the parks.

Exactly. Sounds like a normal morning for me, anyway, when I can't cook.

In the POP food court? I guess if we don't mind looking like rednecks bringing our own poptarts down to the food court I wouldn't mind. LOL. Maybe I'll just stick to the granola bars.
Trust me you won't be the only ones doing it. We'll being doing it in September and do every trip.

I have found a good coler works as well as a fridge.

Also, FYI you know hat you can bring snacks and drinks into the parks as well right? I have found that my crew is usually hungry before lunch time when we have pop tart mornings so it's best to have some snacks on hand.

On the dining plan there is so much food anyway, two meals a day and snacks were more than enough. I think I paid OOP for one meal during our last trip on the DDP.

I'm with the majority on this one. We plan on having breakfeast in our room each morning and bring some snacks and drinks into the parks. Last year when I went into the Walmart down there I realized that prices are pretty much the same as they are by me so we are going to stop before we get to the resort rather have to bring it all with us. We are driving down instead of flying so we'll have a cooler with us to store milk and water and juice in our room, fridges cost $10 a day in the values, if you are staying at a moderate or deluxe I think they may be free. We are on the dining plan as well and yes it is alot of food but I have 4 kids who basically eat all day so one snack a day won't cut it, thus the reason for bringing snacks. And bringing your own water in the parks saves you a bundle and by us going in August we'll be drinking lots of water. I don't think of any of this as being cheap, just sensible. I figure what I save in food is more money for me to shop with!

We were on the Free Dining plan the last time we visited. We found the plan covered lunch and dinner perfectly for all of us. We used the snack credits intermittently throughout the day for whoever needed one. Breakfast, on the other hand, was always in the room. Between cereal, granola bars, fruit, and bagels, everyone got a good (and quick!) breakfast.
