Your take on Michael Vick playing again...

So, if I was raised with a mother who abused her kids..and then abused my children once I got older..that can be excused because it was how I was raised?

I am sorry..I am not trying to argue with you but I do not buy that at all.

I just don't...

Sadly, that is what happens most of the time.

Once again, that is exactly on the mark.

Sorry, but again I don't agree. He saw this going on in a structed, almost legal way when he grew up, and throughout his entire life.

And in his profession? After it happened a TON of NFL players were mentioned as being involved with it, and he basically took the fall for all of them. SO obviously the culture followed him throughout his entire life, and in no way made it seem wrong.

Sorry..but I do not agree with you again..

We are just going to go around in circles...you have one opinion..I have another..

Nothing will change my mind on this and I am sure the same for you..so..let us just agree to disagree...

I never said one should be excused. But you guys are calling this man evil, and I think that's way off base. He could have thought it was fine, and was rehabilitated during his prison sentence. No one should be excused for their actions, and he was not.

Killing dogs is right up there with killing babies. The man is evil. (or at least sick)

Exactly!

He knew it was wrong...that is an excuse..
Thank you.
If you were raised in an area where everyone did this, cops looke dthe other way while it was going on, and your parents never told you it was wrong, you wouldn't think it was wrong.

Bull fighting is still on of the most popular sports in Spain, and they kill the bull after every fight. If it's the culture your raised in, you're going to think it's okay.

And he was bankrupt when he came out of jail. He lost the most lucrative contract of all time.

:brick:

He should know better? Why? He was never taught this was wrong growing up. Have you ever studied psychology at all? I guess Spanish people are all raving lunatics because they kill bulls during bull fighting, right?
Yes...And here is where I am going to use it. I'm minoring in it.

Seeing that you mentioned that the cops look the other way, shouldn't that trigger something? Shouldn't it be a part of the "collective unconscience" that we all have to see that it's not "kosher"? The self knows what's right and wrong in these circumstances, DESPITE culture, seeing the interactions between others. If you see it as a hush hush topic, you see cops turning head, you know it's wrong.

And it's not like this man lived in a idiot back woods community...He was a star! Shouldn't he have known from basic social interaction that this was wrong?

Seems stupid on his part. Then is just seems villainous.

:sohappy:

Excellent post Evan!

Exactly how I feel..I just could not word it as good as you did..:D

I also see it as if you're constantly exposed to it as a kid, and it's made to look cool, you're going to continue it.

I'm sorry, but you don't know the area he's from then. He's basically from a ghetto. It's not a nice place at all, regardless of what he became, he did not come from wealth.

It still does not make it right...how he was raised..and where he lived and his financial status growing up is not an excuse for doing what he has done.
You say you are not making excuses for what he did..but it seems like you are.

Also..so anyone who lives in a ghetto area and does something that is wrong..against the law..we need to give them the benefit of the doubt because of where they come from and that is all they know?

That seems to be what you are saying.

I never said it was right. Never. And I'm not making excuses, but you don't know what the man's psychological state of mind was, and you don't know if he was rehabilitated.

But the man was punished.

But then, look! He became a star! He entered into a world where stuff is like this is challenged! Shouldn't his super ego ( You want to talk psych, right?:lookaroun) KNOW that something is up, if everyone else is saying something wrong? It's basic Social Psych to want to assimilate into society especially when you are viewed as doing something heinous.

*Sigh*

I firmly believe that people are products of their environments. That's all I'm going to say. I never said it was right, but to say everyone has an worldly view of what's right and wrong out of the womb is ridiculous IMO, and it's the responsibility of those who are wiser to raise people the right way.

And in no way should people be let off the hook, but the man did the time that was given to him.

You are right, they are. Enter Locke's "Nature vs. Nurture".

We do have a a Worldly View. Don't take it up with me, take it up with A. Maslow.

You can view something is right, until you are given another perspective. You have to be kidding me if you think he went all this time as a star thinking it was fine, when in mainstream culture it's wrong.

Ah, but again, many, many NFL stars were reportedly doing this as well. The culture followed him.

He was not punished enough...

Then your problem is with the justice system, not Michael Vick.
