AND let me add that this is a position that takes 2 hrs a night, 5 nights a week from me - after working a full time job. Out of 25 girls, there are only TEN parents who stay to watch their child.

And do they thank you for your hard work and dedication? Seriously, do they?

My DH has coached/managed softball teams for both of our girls and its alot of hard work. We have been blessed because each year the kids (alright the moms) get the guys a gift...sometimes a key chain ( a Yankees one..his fav)and an award other times gift certificates to Modells, etc.

Hope they appreciate all you do for them...thats another of my pet peeves...ignoring the hard work/dedication of people who do things for us.

My mom worked as my coach for years and i was grateful to all her hard work and dedication, she helped us reach to where we wanted to go. Some parents praised while others ....blah...

At the end of the 3rd week (last Friday), Yes I finally received a Thank You. I threatened to quit, but it never would have happened. Unfortunately for some, when I realize I have truly angered someone - an evil part of me really enjoys it and makes me more determined to finish to job. Most of these 13 yrs olds are good girls, but there are a handful that even their parents can't control.

And you'll never see a cashier call a manager/supervisor to check on an item because the cashier knows that the manager won't do it. Some, but not all managerial types in retail will not lift a finger to help a lower associate.

As for things not being priced right, everything is dependent on the barcode in large retail stores now. Therefore, when the product is put out onto the floor, the price is already marked based on the barcode. However, someone is responsible somewhere to make sure the computer has the correct info.

Ah, retail.....I'm sure that both customers and employees could write books.

FutureCEO, I would be interested in reading your 101 list.
Well said!!! :sohappy: :sohappy: :sohappy: Our managers could care less if we called them about this! They get all y if you even call them for something small. BTW do you know how much time it would take to call in for every single screwed up barcode? I'd be on the phone my whole shift! lol Just do what I do and charge it under something else that is the same price. Sure it screws up the inventory but do I really care? NO! lol

at my local walmart here in Virginia (off of brook road for those who have been to this walmart..) the managers stand around in front of the registers and talk while the cashier's have to deal with the rude customers. they never come when they are called and half the time, the cashier has to leave his/her station to get the manager. but with rude managers, there are rude cashiers at this walmart too. Most of them don't speak to you, and throw your money at you. there are a few cashiers whose line my family won't go into regardless of how short their line is and how long the others are because they are so rude. Now the garden center, thats a different story. we are friends with the whole garden center. We can go in there and joke with them like they are our best friends. unfortunately, they are being assigned to different locations most of the time. I guess the store is using them to put a little cheer to other sections of the store where they are desperately needed. This walmart needs some serious help. (sorry if i got off topic a little. rude cashiers are one of my pet peeves. no offense to cashiers on this board! I know fellow disney lovers wouldn't be rude!)

UPDATE: on the Cheerleading pet peeve.

Wonders never cease. For most of our two hour practice last night, the squad actually acted like a team!! Only handed out 10 demerits (and six of those went to 1 girl).

Only bad thing that happened was my daughter (Boo47) had an accident. She fell from a full (she's a flyer). Her knee hit this other girl in the mouth and busted her lip. Boo47 severely sprained her wrist (thank goodness it wasn't broken) and we got home from the childrens urgent care around 11pm.
No flying or cheering for 10 days.

Oh no!!! I hope both girls recover quickly. I'm glad they weren't more hurt.

Me too! I believe my heart skipped a few beats as I watched my child fall in slow motion.

Boo47 is happy today, since she is wearing a brace - no violin playing test at school today.

Just got off the phone with the other girls' Mom and she is okay too. No stitches, no tooth lose.

Phew - NO MORE ACCIDENTS (yea right, tonight we have game #2 out of 16).

Thanks to all for the well wishes!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, have I got a list of em!

My CURRENT peeve is right here, sitting next me at work! Well, one of em! I'm talking about people who don't do their jobs correctly, knowing that somewhere down the pike someone else will have to do the work for them! I have been here nearly 5 years, and for that span of time, I have found myself picking up the slack of one person or another. First person had to have a report done by Thursday and on Thursday would dump a huge pile of uncoalated papers on my desk and say "I didn't have time" (well, no, not when you spend your day with your feet up on your desk, talking on the phone) That would mean that I would have to do HER end, only to have to bring my work home and put in 7 or 8 hours of overtime for a couple of nights just to get it done on time. Next person would 'forget' she had work to do...regardless of what it was. Umm...Isn't that why we call this place we are all sitting at desks at WORK? Oh, I forgot... :hammer: Now, I currently have TWO, count em, TWO slackers to contend with...one just doesn't know "Oh, I didn't know it had to be done" :lookaroun The other, well, THAT is clerk work and hes not a clerk...even though it's HIS JOB to do it. He would rather sit and burn cds all day while looking to score concert tickets. Did I mention the dude across the hallway who sleeps most of the day? :snore: Why can't people just DO THEIR JOBS?? :brick: [end rant]

I also join in on the frustration with retail establishments. Very frustrating to be treated rudely when you are shopping. Last week I reported an associate who was so rude that her coworkers MOUTH dropped open. It was in Nordstrom, and they are KNOWN for their customer service..and with those prices they should be nice! No one WANTS to be at work. But, unfortunately, most of us HAVE to work. Just be nice and do your job!

Oh, and don't even get me started on the rude folk who come late to the parade and think that the people who got there early enough to get right up front should move for them so they can see. Because they are there now. And they want up front. And you should move. Because I said :fork:

Ok, done...for now

Don't pick up the slack for others. They probably know that they can get away with it as they will use you to do their work. Let them take the stuff home and ruin their free time.

Queen I must agree with Barnum. My mom does the exact same thing. Where she works (Custom Building Products-a tile company or other I dunno  ), only a handful of people have degrees in anything, including my mom and her awesome boss. My mom speaks English well, considering she's been living here for 25 years. But a lot of people there don't. So, my mom is stuck working with people that barely speak English as a second language and have no idea how a computer works. They are also incredibly lazy and don't want to try to do the work, so they always come to her with questions and my mom ends up doing the work for those lazy bums. Her other boss is worse, having her do a bunch of work that is not reflected in her paycheck . I keep telling her AND her nice boss that she does too much work for what she gets paid and we're trying to get her a raise. Here's to hoping .

Enough rambling :D

Thanks Barnum and Regina for the nice words (you can call me Lisa, btw :) ) and I know exactly what you are saying, but what happens is there is someone with whom the ultimate responsibility lies, and thats usually me (I bet its your mom too Regina  ) So, not picking up the slack is alot easier said than done. I have improved somewhat though. I no longer do any of the data entry. The old girl (Oh, I forgot) would not do it, banking on me doing it for her. The new girl does it without having to be reminded (YEAH for competent people! :sohappy: ). I finally flat out refused to do any 'clerk' work for what sits next to me and instead email him for what is missing, while copying HIS boss (works on occasion  ) Like Regina said, we are being paid for ONE job, not for our job PLUS everyone else's!

Good luck to your mom, Regina! Hoping a big fat BONUS comes her way!! :D

Hi Lisa!
I have to concur with the rest! Lisa just go to your supervisor and let her know what is happening.
I too am in a position to where all the responsibility lies with me, If product does not get out I am the one blamed, but there was this lady from India that was put into my cell and she did not like doing what she was told to do and purposely went slow, so she would not have to do it. Well I went to my supervisor and she asked me what the slow down was and I told her that Ramilla(that was her name) Just can not build fast. We are talking the quota for those boards was 30 an hour and all she was building was 5 in 8 hours. So My supervisor took her out of my cell and placed her in another cell and gave me another builder. Now this builder, yet another foreigner from Croatia, is much faster, still not 100%, but she is able to get 15 boards in a day, that is still not acceptable, but I hope that after time she will be able to pick up speed, if not I will be forced to ask for someone else, hopefully an experienced builder.
