Thanks Barnum and Regina for the nice words (you can call me Lisa, btw :) ) and I know exactly what you are saying, but what happens is there is someone with whom the ultimate responsibility lies, and thats usually me (I bet its your mom too Regina  ) So, not picking up the slack is alot easier said than done. I have improved somewhat though. I no longer do any of the data entry. The old girl (Oh, I forgot) would not do it, banking on me doing it for her. The new girl does it without having to be reminded (YEAH for competent people! :sohappy: ). I finally flat out refused to do any 'clerk' work for what sits next to me and instead email him for what is missing, while copying HIS boss (works on occasion  ) Like Regina said, we are being paid for ONE job, not for our job PLUS everyone else's!

Good luck to your mom, Regina! Hoping a big fat BONUS comes her way!! :D
Ok Lisa, I'll call you Lisa . Well yeah you're right. My mom is the purchasing agent where she works and her boss is supposedly the purchasing manager. However, he got promoted to assistant plant manager, so now my mom is stuck with purchasing all by her lonesome. I love her boss and all, but he can be real lazy too  So it bugs me that on top of the work she has, people come to her giving her other things to do. Sometimes I get involved too because every day she calls me at least once to help her with an email she's writing.

There are a couple of perks for my mom being so "enthusiastic" about her work. Her boss basically lets her do whatever she wants, like taking days off whenever she wants or getting to work late and leaving early (she works more hours than she has to every day). Of course though there is a catch: My mom is a workoholic, and when she takes days off, she still works at home on the company lap top. So, when she's not at work, she's still working . Oh well, she's my momma and I love her dearly :D

Hey Lisa - feels better now doesn't it? Sometimes just a good b*tch session does a world of good.

Hope it gets better for you!

Darrel: Been there. I know how frustrating it is. It's good that your supervisor sees this as well and does something about it.

Regina: It is good that they recognize what a good employee your mom is. Not all of us get that from our companies :hammer:

Gucci: Oh, there's plenty more where that came from

I don't mind people misspelling my first name, because there are two common ways to spell it, but I HATE when people can't spell my last name, EVEN AS I'M SPELLING IT FOR THEM! It's only 4 letters, for crying out loud!!!

Did he say it was the cashier's fault? :veryconfu I thought he was blaming the store. Or maybe I'm not quite awake yet and am reading it wrong :snore:

Anyway, I'll post a couple of pet peeves from MY work!

Patients who blow us off- there is almost ALWAYS somebody else waiting to get in. If you can't make your appointment, let us know in advance so that someone else can be seen! ...unless of course an emergency has arisen. Not fair to our other patients.

Patients who come late, especially without calling ahead to tell us- our office runs on time UNLESS somebody comes late. They get mad if we turn them away, and the rest of the patients get mad if we are now running behind. It's a no-win situation for us. And again, sometime there is a good reason for being late. I am not talking about those people.

Patients who walk in without calling first and demand to be seen. We're a very busy office and again, it's not fair to the other patients who have appointments.

And finally, people who make cracks about how much money my boss is making off of them. We're running at 70% overhead. Dentistry is expensive, what can I say. Unfortunately insurance companies have not changed their maximums in 20 some years, while the prices of everything else have skyrocked. Anyway, he's more than generous enough. I've seen him not charge people because they are elderly, they are volunteers, they are widows, etc, etc.

Whew! Is anyone still reading this? LOL
I'm reading and I think I work in your office. Or at least a mirror image of it!

I agree 100% on every count I am a dental hygienist in NY and every one f you points is valid. And most of them happened today. I'd have to say patients coming in late is number one on my list. :fork:
I just love it when they come in late, without an apology and say well, you took me in late last time. :fork: I probably took you in late because some inconsidate patient before you came in late!
I try really hard to stay on schedule since I realize everyone' time is valuable today. And who wants to waste their time sitting in a waiting room.
:o
It always amazes me when people just don't show up for appointments. We have a cancellation list 8 pages long. If they would just call and cancel, we don't care why just call!

As you can see these topics get me fired up! :fork: It sounds like you do too. Maybe we need a support group.
Sorry for going on, and on, I guess that's what happens when you ask about people's pet peeves.

Many people can't spell my christian name, and it's only three letters! "Joe". So many folk drop the "e" off the end, thus changing me from a Joseph to a Joanne.
*ouch*. That could be painful

I'm a step beneath you on the totem pole (assistant)

What gets me is that when somebody does not show, inevitably there is some sweet old lady with a broken tooth who we should've seen instead, but couldn't because we had to keep our commitment to the scheduled patient.

I think all of our pet peeves are probably tied together- the inconsiderate patient is the same person who cuts you off in traffic and is rude to the waiters and retailers! And it's probably his/her kid kicking the back of your seat on your flight to WDW

Hey Jo! Thats really funny. :D

People rarely spell my first name right or pronounce my last name correctly. If its close I'll answer. (since my married name is alot easier than my maiden name I'm used to it)

I guess I wasn't clear. I don't expect people to know how to spell my last name. However, what happens is they will continue to mispell it as I'm spelling it out for them, ie J-O-E..."Oh, J-O." No, J-O-E. "Ah, J-E" Um, no J-O-E. And sometimes I'll see what they've written and it's still wrong.

I have the opposite problem. I love my dentist, but he really gets distracted. I had a root canal scheduled for 9:10. I got there at 9, didn't get into the chair until 9:40, and he didn't start until 10:15. He kept bouncing out to talk to a hygienist who had been out on maternity leave, and had stopped in with her baby. He had only scheduled 2 hrs, so now I have to go back so he can finish. To top it off, his office sent me the bill. Um, he hasn't finished yet.

3- people that wear socks with their sandles...um what were sandles made for but to let you go barefoot without hurting your feet! :D

Well said! You forgot to mention how bad it looks :D

I don't really have any specific pet peeves, just people who are rude & inconsiderate. I also hate it when people wont listen to someone else's opinion, and don't admit it when they're wrong.

LOL! Thank you! yes it also looks very bad!
As far as name spellings, hardly anyone ever gets my name right, even people in my own family! It is Darrel, but I always get Daryl, Darryl, Darell, Darrell and even Dariel! :hammer:

Aww, well, if it makes you feel any better, a lot of root canals aren't done in one visit anyway. It lessens your chances of being in pain.

My boss is a perfectionist so he doesn't do root canals unless they are on really easy front teeth- so we have 2 of the top professors from the dental school come out to our office on the weekends and do them for us. :king: I'm glad too, because I hate assisting on those things

I get called by two different names. My real name is Shane, even though I'm not Irish. Anway, since as long as I can remember I have been called Sean or Shawn too (I like Shawn spelling better). Even my family calls me it. I don't care now. I answer to both anyway.
