Yeti Repaired

You REALLY kept it a secret. Everytime we would talk about AK updates on here you would say that you wanted DIs to fix the yeti before anything else. Since you knew that all along, does this mean we could be getting some updates to AK now that the Yeti is fixed? Just wondering. I am sure eveyone will complain about Dinosaur now. lol

I've given up on Dinosaur.

That thing has more broken effects than EE ever did.

You would think that a Dinosaur refurbishment would be down the line sooner than later. It sure would be nice if the intensity was boosted back up, but that isn't going to happen so hopefully they'll fix the effects.

Glad to hear there is movement again and hopefully the Disco at the top of the mountain will close ;)

Heard about this almost a year ago.... and can`t wait for September, our 3rd trip since Everest opened, to finally see the thing moving.

Some things you just can`t talk about.

So jt's rambling putting down people in the know is way off base??

WHOOOODAAATHUNKIT!!!!!

Ok, now can we stop this stupid NEW SHERIFF garbage???

As a professor in an engineering college...you can do all the simulations and calculations you want, but when you're building something that more or less hasn't been done before, it's hard to get it exactly right unless you build one to throw away first. Always you have to make simplifying assumptions vs. really building it for real. Sometimes, one of those assumptions comes back to bite you.

It's one thing to build Yet Another Four Lane Bridge, where the bad assumptions are mostly well-known. This is another.
Not only that but us engineers get to work in a perfect world. All of the bolts are the correct grade and installed property, all of the bracing is put in before loads are applied and the concrete is always formulated, mixed and poured correctly. The real world is much different.

Exciting news indeed expect me to visit tomorrow & update (maybe with a short video via cell phone) to my twitter (/iviiix) or at least let you know how the A- Mode Yeti is working :)

To answer a few things...

1) Remember that the yeti will not be running in A mode on a regular basis for the forseeable future. From what I was told, this is like a soft opening... sometimes he's going to be running in A mode, at other times he's not. He's expensive and every precaution is being taken that no more stress fractures are developed or are at all likely to develop. Once all is clear, the yeti will be operational as originally intended.

2) The reason for not releasing information on the yeti being repaired is simple. If we were unable to get it running without shutting the ride down extensively, then it would have been really bad PR to have announced that we were working on it.

3) The Redis guy is the one who talked about two versions of the Haunted Mansion right? Neat idea, but he's probably more akin to Jim Hill than to me lol. Both are probably very nice fans making very good guesses and getting it right or partially right some of the time.

And as for those of you who broke the story before me, I didn't see any threads with a title about it. So I apologize if you felt like I was breaking news you had already found out about. I'm just sharing the info as soon it was ready for public knowledge.

Why does it seem like all those who are new here, and post information as if they are insiders, know about past members, who are long gone, and what they used to post about???

Insider, thanks for all the information!!!!

By the way, interesting fact about 3rd shift for those of you interested: did you know that Epcot's 3rd shift is made up of many, many deaf cast members? For whatever reason, over the years more and more hearing impaired persons have found their way to that park's third shift to the point that managers often need to use sign language. Neat little fact.

Get asked enough times if you're so-and-so, and you'll look up that username to see who the heck they are lol. I typically get asked if I'm him, Jim Hill, or any of the top guys in Imagineering. One person is determined to believe I'm Lasseter.

So there you have it, folks... I'm John Lasseter. J/K
