yet another dining recommendation thread

Hi everybody!
Ok, I know there are a million of these threads hanging around, but I’d like one personal recommendation.
We want to try a new restaurant this trip, and can’t decide.

We’re not fish eaters, so keep that in mind. And we will have one credit left from the dining plan, so it has to be a one credit restaurant.
And preferably I'd like recommendations on the dinner menu, not breakfast.
I need any table service restaurants (parks and resorts), but not DTD area.

It is just my husband and myself; we're already planning 2 character meals this trip, so I don't think we need anymore :ROFLOL:

With that in mind, here is where we have been (many multiple times), or are already trying out this trip:

Chef Mickeys (breakfast)
Chef Mickeys (dinner)
Trails End
1900 Park Faire/Gala Feast
‘Ohana
Boatwrights
Whispering Canyon Café
Crystal Palace (dinner)
Liberty Tree Tavern
Tony’s
Le Cellier
San Angel Inn
Tutto Italia
Mama Melrosas
Sci-Fi Dine-In
Hollywood and Vine
50’s Prime Time

Unfortunately, I’m also somewhat a picky eater, so I shy away from the rest of the World Showcase that I haven't already tried
(meaning china, japan, morocco, germany, and france are probably another ‘no’)

One day, we’re going to run out of new places to eat! Lol. But I appreciate any input as to what hidden gems I’ve been missing.

One place that I do not see on your list that is a favorite of mine in the Garden Grill at the land. It would be another character meal but the food is incredibley good there and I am pretty sure it is only one credit. It is an all you can eat restaurant where they bring everything to the table for you. (much like the skillet at Whispering Canyon) All the vegetables are fresh, many of which are grown in the green houses at the land, the flank steak is incredible and the turkey is always perfect. Catfish is also included but if you do not want it simply tell your server and they will leave it off. They will also bring out the standard kid fare of mac-n-cheese, french fries and chicken strips if you ask.

You say you have stayed away from Morocco because you are picky, but I think this is a hidden gem. Neither of my kids (or the hubby for that matter) are very adventurous when it comes to "different" foods, but we all love this place. While the spices may be different from what you are used to - how many people use cinnamon with chicken on a regular basis- the food is wonderful, not spicy just different. The same goes for Boma in the AKL. The food may sound very exotic, but if you look at the descriptions its just regular food with exotic sounding names. My kids loved the Durban chicken and the ribs. The soups and salads were wonderful and who could pass up a Zebra Dome?

Read thru the menus for the dish descriptions and you may find something you like.

I have to agree with tigsmom om Morocco. I am an extremly picky eater, but I loved Marrakesh. It is not spicy or hot at all. There are spices, but they are mild ones like cinnamon and saffron. I would suggest giving it a try. If you really hate it after you can always grab a hot dog or burger at a quick service place after, but I predict that you will pleasanly surprised by Restaurant Marrakesh.

I too am with tigsmom. :)

When I first read your post I was going to suggest to you that Marrakesh is really a great place to go (and that is coming from another picky eater, me!). I was all set to not like the food, but really it isn't very spicy and is quite delicious. Try the beef kabobs, basic beef on a stick, that is over rice, basic rice. Pretty plain, but very tasty. The music and entertainment really make this a neat treat. :)

Try it you'll like it.

I suggest Boma even if if you are a picky eater. My DS can be too but we all loved it. The food is different but very well balanced as far as spices go(sweet and savory) The heat, as Tigsmom & mouselvrmom said, is balanced with cinnamon and the like. It is so verrrry good! They also offer some regular items too and the desserts are great.
I haven't tried Marrakesh yet but it sounds very similar (same type of dishes)and we are trying it this time. Anywhere that offers couscous catches my attention.:slurp:

hmmm thanks for the suggestions guys!
I don't know why I always overlook Garden Grill.
I just forget that its there

As far as Marrakesh, I've never even looked at the menu, because I just
figured I'd never go for it. I'll have to check it out now.

And my family suggested boma as well...they loved it. And I have heard such
wonderful things about the zebra domes :slurp:

I'll definitely look into all of those.

I agree Boma it is awesome and one of our favorites Buffet. It's a shame you don't have 2 dinner credits as there are so many great options. You can also try Spoodles at the Boardwalk (which I believe is just 1 sitdown credit).

I know several have already suggested it, but Boma is one of my favorites and is definitely one you should try at least once.

Another one for Boma here

It's a 2 credit meal, but I have to shout out for Artist Point. It's an incredible meal and a beautiful restaurant. You can always have one person use the 2 credits and the other person pay out of pocket. You won't be disappointed.

Hi everyone!
Thanks for the replies.
We ended up picking Garden Grill.

We're already planning places for next year that we couldn't fit in this year!
And Artist Point and Boma breakfast are both on the list.
(in fact, I originally tried sneaking Artist Point in, but it got voted out)
I know everyone recommends Marrakesh, but I ate at the quick service
in Morocco once, and wasn't too thrilled. I know the menus aren't too similar;
I'm just scarred :hurl:

Thanks for the suggestions!

I noticed you did not have the Coral Reef restaurant on your list. I went last year with my b/f and he can not stand any form of seafood. He tends to be a very picky eater. He had a steak that he thought was pretty good (but not the best). We were able to sit on the glass and we both loved watching all the fish swimming about. I thought that it was a very nice "adult" lunch. Just my opinion. Hope you have fun whatever you choose.:p

Oh Meyla Weyla
I see that you've already made a choice, which is a great one, but there was one quick thing I had noticed in your original post that I wanted to comment on for the future.

You mentioned being a bit afraid of France in World Showcase, and I wanted to tell you that I have eaten at Le Chefs de France twice now, and both times have commented that while the food was lovely, it didn't seem very "french" to me! I think if you ever wanted to try it, you'd be safe. There are plenty of menu items that are very non-scary :D

On a side note, I have never enjoyed the CS or TS in Morocco either, but I was still very happy with Boma, so that's another choice where you can skip some things, but still have a lot to pick from.

Of the ones you listed, I would recommend:

Chef Mickey's (dinner or breakfast)
1900 Park Fare (dinner)
'Ohana's (dinner or breakfast)
Whispering Canyon
Crystal Palace (dinner or breakfast)
Liberty Tree Tavern
LeCellier
Hollywood and Vine

Thanks for the info guys! Yeah, I have made my reservations already, but I'll keep these in mind for the future.
Apparently I'll have to branch out into some of the "scarier" places, lol. It looks like Disney does a good job of providing options for picky eaters, and that I've been missing out.
Thanks again!

We always have a hard time choosing where we want to eat -- even w/ a table service each day.
There are so many good places! :slurp:
